I want to stay in KDE 4.4.5 for a while, while KDE 4.5 gets stable. But now the factory repo. is moving to 4.5, and the stable repo. stayed in 4.4.4., so now no repo has 4.4.5.
View 3 RepliesI am useing a PC as a simple display and I need the monitor to stay on for long periods of time. I have set the power saving setting to "presentation" mode and it is not supposed to turning the monitor off. Is there somewhere else I need to adjust this??? I am running OpenSUSE 11.1.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using Opensuse on a small computer that needs to run a web site 24/7/365. It's an mp3 player, it's used for music, the player is an html5 player that runs in fullscreen mode of firefox.It's connected to a TV via HDMI. I've set all possible power options so it never sleed, idle, hibernate or close. Same thing for display, never dim or turn on screen saver. Although the TV is not ALWAYS on the PC's HDMI input, sometime switching to TV Tuner and other time to PC display.So if we switch the tv's input to tuner and the to PC, opensuse won't re-detect the display and the TV will say NO SIGNAL until I completely reboot the PC ... very annoying ... The other problem is that the TV is far from the server so I need to use VNC and re-open firefox, go to the player and re-set fullscreen mode. But worst, I can only use VNC once. If I want to reconnect via VNC, I need to login SSH, restart service and then I can connect ...1. How can we set VNC to ALWAYS accept connection and that from a fresh boot ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new system with NVIDIA GeForce 9100 integrated graphics. I used [URL] to install the NVIDIA drivers and utilities. If I use sax2 from the commandline in runlevel 3 (or from KDE) and select LCD 1680x1050 for the display, I am able to test and save the configuration. If I then init 5, KDE starts with the proper display settings. NVIDIA X Server Settings tool shows that I have a Gateway FPD2275W(which is what I have) with display dimensions 1680x1050.
I even have the option to change the refresh rate to 75. I never told the configuration tools what kind of monitor I have, so something detected it. The problem comes when I reboot. The display reverts to 1280x1024 which is not correctly proportioned for my display. The NVIDIA tool then shows some kind of generic monitor, and does not give me any options to configure the display correctly. My system has an AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 820 Processor.
My numeric keypad is always in "Numbers off" mode even though the Num Lock light is lit up. I am using 11.3 and have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard 4000.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTo workaround the kio_smb madness, I set up shares to be mounted via /etc/fstab. It works flawlessly until I suspend my laptop. Coming back from suspend, samba mounts are not being re-mounted automatically. Since I'm new to opensuse, I wish to ask you:
Is there a polished way to make this happen, in opensuse approach?
Or shall I just go and toy with scripts in the init.d (or what is it in suse)?
As much as I could figure, I checked in yast, and smbfs service is signed as "Yes".
Got firefox 6 via zypper up from the Mozilla stable repository ( Index of /repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.4)
Firefox 6 is not released officially till now.
I used to install the latest kernel for opensuse 11.3 from this repo:
Index of /repositories/Kernel:/stable
but for 11.4 it is empty. I can see that for 11.3 the 2.6.38 kernel is already built.For 11.4 there is only the Kernel:/HEAD repo. Are we going to have a kernel:/stable repo for 11.4?
Has anyone tried updating dbus in factory up to level 1.4 under openSuSE 11.3 x86_64 and continue to run KDE 4.4.4 Stable? Just wondering if it causes any issues or if it forces you to go to KDE 4.5.1 Factory. I've tried updating to 4.5.1 without, other thread, and the suggestion was to update dbus to 1.4 to correct speed issues.

I just started using opensuse KDE and I haven't used other distros/linux so thats why I'm asking.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe gnome-shell-extensions have been accepted into the stable repository and should appear soon along with an updated gnome-shell. Now, if you installed the extensions for my factory branch whilst I was working on the extensions, you need to remove the repository and remove the installed packages as there have been some name changes to the extensions. I don't recommend the xrandr extension, it will crash the shell! If you do try it, you only need to do a ctrl+alt+F1 and login as root user and zypper rm, logout and ctrl+alt+F7 and login.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.
I've been thinking of going into opensuse for a long time and now with KDE 4.4 is finally out - I'm going to do it. The installation shouldn't be a problem but I wonder how I can upgrade to kde 4.4, since opensuse 11.2 will have 4.3 by default? I saw in the documentation to add these repos:

works great for this purpose, but on my new Thinkpad W520 with Fedora 15 the monitor won't stay off but come back after a few seconds. This is rather annoying. Does anybody have an idea how I can make it stay turned off? Oh yeah: Pad is deactivated, only trackpoint is active.
I've set-up my main panel along the bottom of the screen. However when I reboot/restart the little F!@#$% is back up top again. So I figure fine right click properties/set to bottom. But no. It jumps right back to the top. like I didn't select bottom at all. Also its happening on both my laptop and netbook.

Running DHCP all works fine, but we are sending this out to a client who gave us some specific IP settings.There is nothing GUI wise, which is nothing tragic, so I updated the interfaces file with the static info as well as the /etc/resolv.conf file and rebooted. The static info worked but had no DNS, and all that was in that file was;#SETUP by Network Manager (or something close as I am not at the office).
You can run via cli NetworkManager but does nothing. I installed I think it was called KNetworkManager which is a GUI to the app, but when started it shows the eth0 device as in use so I am assuming something else is managing.So basically how can I get the DNS settings to stay either cli or gui..

I just installed FC12 (2.6.31.5-127.fc12.x86_64) alongside Windows7 on a brand new box, and the DVD drive is driving me nuts. In FC, I can't get the DVD drawer to stay open. When I press the eject button, r slides out, but then slides right back in again immediately. When I start the SystemTools->DiskUtility (Palimpsest), the Eject function is grayed out.The drive itself seems to work just fine, I used it for the FC install from LiveCD. In Windows, the drawer works properly.The only device info I can see for the drive is DH16AAL, I don't know if that's a model no. and I don't know the manuf. Says SCSI, but it's got a SATA cable. View 10 Replies View RelatedI am very new to the wonderful world of Linux and from what I've read about and my limited experience (approx. 3 hrs) I like it; but I'm having one problem that I need to get fixed: I'm dual booting currently with W7 (boo) only because I can't get my internet to stay connected(?) for extended periods of time using F15.
When I first installed F15, everything went smoothly, it asked me for my PW for the wireless internet and it said that it was connected. After I loaded Firefox for the first time, thinking to myself "Awesome, it set itself up completely and is running perfectly) I was let down. On my laptop I have Quickbuttons. Touch sensitive buttons above my F-keys (incase you didn't know what I was referring to. When I connect to the internet, with my wireless card on, I can successfully load 1 internet page. Halfway though the page load, the internet light/button starts to flash repeatedly on/off rapidly. Internet connectivity seems to have stopped at this point as I can not load another internet page or use the chat window any more. If I disconnect from my internet and reconnect, everything works fine for 1 more internet page then back to flashing and no more connectivity.
If I restart using the Windows OS, everything works fine and my desktop is working normally as well, so it must be something with F15. What do I need to do in order to get the internet card to work continuously? What am I missing? Please remember, I'm very new to this and all the troubleshooting web pages that I've found thus far are talking WAY above my head.
