Upon trying to boot Windows I got through the GRUB startup selections and then i get stuck at a black screen displaying "Starting Up. . ." That would be no problem, I just boot ubuntu instead and mount the partition to access the programs I'm looking for. Now I get an interesting error message:

I would run chkdsk in windows if I could, but that's my problem in the first place.
I am unable to mount my Windows 7 partition. I receive the following error:

The boot.ini file for windows fail(reason unknown) and now i cant boot to any installed OS. Used Ubuntu live from usb to explore the disks, but as i tried to mount the W�ndows partition it failed..

I have recently set up an ubuntu installation on an old PC. After some fiddling with both it, and the windows 7 machine, I have managed to share all of my drives. However, when attempting to access them from ubuntu, only 2 of the 4 hard disk shares will mount, with the other 2 failing with a Unable to mount location, failed to mount windows share error message.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running Ubuntu v10.04 with a wireless card.My desktop is a Dell Optiflex running WinXP.The desktop is connected via ethernet cable to a Linksys wireless router. Certain folders on the desktop are set for sharing. Up until early last week I was able to access the desktop folders from the laptop with no issues.Suddenly I am now getting this error "Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share" whenever I try to access the desktop folders from the laptop.I suspect an upgrade is the culprit, but not sure.
I am currently running a dual boot machine with Ubuntu 11.04 and Windows Vista.Is there any way I can delete the Linux partition and Grub boot loader without affecting the Windows partition at all?I would also like to be able to repartition all of the space that was previously occupied by Linux.
I have been trying to share folders from my main PC which is running Ubuntu 10.04. I have been able to figure out Samba enough to get my a couple of folders shared, but I have been unable to share any folders which are on my external harddrive. After entering the path in my smb.conf file they appear on the network but I am unable to navigate to them. When trying to navigate to them through the network folder on the pc they are actually connected to I get an "Unable to mount location: Failed to mount windows share" dialog box. On the windows pc I am trying to share with I get, "Windows cannot acces \Josh-Desktop ame of folder"

That folders I cannot access are Music and Videos.
I have a computer running Ubuntu 10.10. I am using it to share many hard drives connected to it. I am using Samba. I have successfully shared many folders to one Windows user. I am attempting to share other folders within the shared folders to another user as read only but have not had any success. When I attempt to connect to one of the shares from another computer running Ubuntu 10.10, logged into an Administrator account with the same username and password which I setup on the Samba share I get the error: "Unable to mount location" "Failed to mount Windows share"
i'm trying to connect to the three other machines in my house but am having quite a hard time doing so. i've never had a problem in the past with ubuntu, but, with 9.1 and windows 7, things have gotten a bit harder. i'm running 9.1 and my roommates are running windows 7. i've installed, set up and configured samba and i can see the computers on my network, but any time i try to access either of the drives, it says unable to mount location: failed to mount windows share.
I was dual-booting Ubuntu (10.10) and Windows 7. I installed Backtrack in addition to these 2, and the Ubuntu GRUB was replaced with the one from Backtrack.
Now when I boot, only Backtrack and Windows 7 are listed in GRUB. When I run fdisk from Backtrack, I see all partitions, and running a Partition Manager lists the Ubuntu partition as a Linux partition. However, the partition manager says that it is unable to read the contents of the partition, and that it is unable to re-read the partition table.
Also, the Ubuntu, Backtrack, and Linux Swap partition are all listed under the same Extended partition.
Still a novice in Ubuntu (Karmic Koala). I'm trying to mount an ext4 20GB partition of my hard drive so that i can use it to store data, i want it to appear on my desktop as well as on places, as far as i know this is achieved by mounting the partition in /media. At my first attempt i used the following commands. (i named the partition ondskapt)

I am unable to mount partition in ubuntu 10.04. Icons for different partitions are not coming within "Places". Every time I have to manually mount the partition or CD or DVD and manually unmount it. Seldom it shows the partition icons within Places>Computer. Then the partitions are getting mounted upon double clicking its partition-icon. But I fail to unmount the partition as it throws the error "media/partition_name is not in the fstab (and you are not root)."
Ubuntu has been complaining about swap not being ready during boot. The swap partition was showing up un-known in gparted. I booted off CD, reformatted it to swap. Error message gone but system monitor > resources shows my swap size to be 86GB (the exact size of my shared NTFS volume). gparted shows the swap partition as not 'swapped on' I am running Ubuntu 11.04 along side Windows 7 (as well as my factory restore partition) and an NTFS shared partition.My partition structure in order of location on disc.

I switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"
This occurred after I was using it and then everything suddenly froze up on me and I had to crash out Now this!
had a dual O/S win Vista 64bit & unbuntu 9.10 64bit.
1. Had a virus on my Win vista side, anti virus could help (virus kept replicating itself - to halt all progs from running). 2. In the End Win Vista would start & was only used Unbuntu for about 2 days. 3. Tried to repair Win Vista, but noting worked. 4. Couldn't mount Win partition through unbuntu either - needed to copy some files across. 5. Eventually formatted Win partition side & re-installed Win Vista 64bit. 6. The problem now is that the grub option to select the O/S choice isn't there, thus i can't use Linux. 6b. The computer loads only Win vista 64bit (Like there usn't a Linux) 7.Checked at the disk management prog - could see my linux space but have no access. 8. Used a live Linux cd to access linux partition, just to check - it worked. 9. how can i acccess the Linux O/S as normal?
Environment: A 32-bit kernel RHEL5.3 system running on a virtual machine. The root(/) filesystem is on an LV.
Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm. Using Ubuntu 10.04 with a Wubi Install. Vista Home Premium is the host. I can access all my partitions and external drives with the exception of my windows partition where Wubi is installed. I have seen some suggestion to go to "places" and click on "host", but there is no "host" listed. My windows install is on sda1 and I believe I need to create a directory for it and then execute a command in the terminal but I have no idea if this correct or what really needs to be done. mount my NTFS windows partition while I am running Ubuntu 10.04 in Wubi.

After re-installing cups to deal with a printer problem, now I'm suddenly getting the message "Unable to mount Windows NTFS", which has all my data on it.
I have a dual-boot with Debian and Windows7. I used Synaptic to install the ntfs packages, and Debian detects the windows partition, but when I double click it, it says something like "Failed to mount. Invalid mount option". Now I can mount it and navigate the folders, but ALL folders and files have permissions set to 700, and I can't change the permissions to access any of the files. Sure would be nice to be able to access my windows partition.
I had to re-install Windows XP because the install was running slow.So, I created another partition using GParted for my personal data and moved my files there and re-installed Windows XP.Now, the Windows partition won't mount automatically.NTFS Configuration Tool shows 0.0GB. So, I have to open up a Terminal window, and issue sudo mount /dev/sda1 /media/Windows and everything is fine.
I have a windows partition on my drive, and I want to access it without having to mount it first, etc. There are just two partitions, windows and Ubuntu. I am running Ubuntu 10.04.1 so I want to mount it on startup. I saw this article: [URL] but I don't know if what it describes will work as it's almost 2 years old. I'm not adverse to commands, in fact would probably prefer those.
I am running the latest debian lenny OS and with kernel 2.6.26-2-686. I have a common /data partition for both Ubuntu and Debian which is ext4 file system. I am not able to mount this volume. The error message reads "unknown filesystem type ext4". How do I fix this. I searched the net and there was a link talking about this
