OpenSUSE :: Ipod Mounts In Gnome But Not Kde

My kids each have an ipod touch. Occasionally I connect them to my laptop and use dolphin to pull the pictures off them. I've noticed recently that the ipods don't automount in kde. I know that they were mounting under suse 11.3 (kde 4.5); I can't remember whether they ever mounted under 11.4 (kde 4.6.3). Last night I needed to back up the ipods, and I found that I could do that if I booted into gnome (they mounted right up as volumes in gnome), so the issue seems to to be kde-specific.

I mistakenly unplugged my 4th Generation Ipod Nano while Rytmobox was transfering files, the ipod is working great but Ubuntu refuses to recognize it. I don't dee it anymore in /media and Rytmobox doesn't recognize it anymore.This is the result of sudo fdisk -lQuote:

I installed 10.04 as I heard the ipod touch support in Banshee / rhythmbox was as good as itunes for synbching music files. However with the base install I was unable to transfer to my ipod by dragging files over to it.I have now spent a week trying different things from google searches etc. This has left me with a system that now mounts the ipod but doesn't display it in banshee or rhythmbox I was mostly aiming to get this working .. (New thread due to significant change in info)5th gen iPod is recognized, but will not load files into banshee. It is the latest version of banshee. My ipod (named SON2) shows up in the menu, but when selected it hangs on "Loading SON2" and showing that it's busy...but this goes on without end, no files ever get loaded. Also, banshee doesn't recognize any music or video on the ipod, only "other". Steps taken so far:- A complete removal and reinstallation of banshee has had no effect.- Installed latest version of podsleuth, no effect- Previous had "automount" in nautilus preferences unchecked, rechecked - no effectPossible signs of danger:Running Banshee from Terminal output (CLICK HERE FOR NOPASTE OUTPUT)- skipping my song errors, at the bottom 4 warnings occur, followed by a number of failures which I don't understand

This is what I do:
*connect my ipod
*it appears on nautilus
*as fast as possible i run "ideviceinfo" and it shows my device no problem
*then the ipod sounds as if it was disconnected and disappears from the computer
*when i try lsusb it shows an apple inc. device
*then i try to mount it using ifuse but it doesnt work, it asks me if me device is connected, and it is
I made another user, and tried connecting it and it was completely normal, it wouldn't dismount.It's like I had something not configured right or something, because one week ago it was working right

My iPod touch was working fine in 10.04 and since the upgrade to Maverick, I cannot see the songs in it in Rhythmbox or Banshee. In Rhythmbox it appears empty and crashes Rhythmbox when I try to right click it to see the properties. In Banshee the songs appear as 'other'. Trying to read it in GTKPod yields the following error: iPod Database failed: Error during parsing of file /home/user/.gvfs/user's iPod/iTunes_Control/iTunes.I tried re-installing the gstreamer plugins, and also libimobiledevice to no avail. Also tried re-installing the ipod plugin for Rhythmbox and nothing there either

I have multiple ubuntu machines and I connect to one through an NFS share. I have done this for a few years without issue. However, since re-installing ubuntu and upgrading to 10.4 I have a problem with my system hanging when the remote shares are lost.
Basically, I can power down the machine downstairs, and my main machine then has a fit. I can not open any folders in ubuntu, nor can I shut down. If I try and shut down the system hangs, last time it hung for 8 hours before I had to kill the power.
These are the lines in my fstab
I don't know what I've done wrong, or how I can prevent this from hanging. I have googled the heck out of this as well and can't seem to find an answer either.

I mount a smb share in suse 11.2 like so mount //ip/share /mnt/point That's fine. It works. A few days later I find all shares I've mounted like that have mysteriously disappeared. I can't find out why, nothing in logs, no obvious causes. When I say disappear I mean its like something did an umount /mnt/point. They no longer appear in the mount list, they are no longer mounted, and I need to type in the mount command for them to come back.
I tend to leave the boxes running until they crash or need a reboot, and always have. This problem I've only seen in 11.2. I have a 11.1 and 11.0 boxes running too, and the mounts are stable on those. I can't find any references anywhere to this behaviour.

I recently upgraded to kubuntu 10.10 and now I can't play songs and sync my ipod outside of gnome. Before the upgrade I was able to access the ipod using rhythm box, it wouldn't be detected at first but if I would click music and then import folder and then click ipod touch under places rhythm box would recognise it and it would be mounted at /home/linux/.gvfs/iPod touch. But now unlike before on kubuntu 10.04, when I plug in my ipod it is actually recognised by the device notifier, but it only recognises it as a camera it has no access to the rest of the file system where the music is located, and their is no eject button in the device notifier to unmount. And because of this I can't mount gvfs unless I unplug the ipod, logout, and log back in into gnome. I tried mounting with ifuse before on 10.04 but it didn't work right, now when i try it in kde I get a whole new error message.
linux@linux:~$ ifuse /mnt/ipod/
No device found, is it connected? If it is make sure that your user has permissions to access the raw usb device. If you're still having issues try unplugging the device and reconnecting it.

I didn't think that command would work but I tried it because I have no idea where the hell the ipod is mounted or if it's even mounted at all. Is their any way to keep kde from detecting my ipod touch? Or anything I can do in the terminal so I can use my ipod with gtkpod or rhythmbox while in kde.

I'm trying to establish NFS mounts for my SOHO NAS 500 as I used to with other versions of OpenSuse. I go to Yast, I find my SOHO server and my exported directory. I put rw for options and Add it to the list. When I exit I get the following from Yast in a pop up: YaST got signal 11 at YCP file Service.ycp:77/sbin/yast2: line 399: 13095 Segmentation fault $ybindir/y2base $module "$@" "$SELECTED_GUI" $Y2_GEOMETRY $Y2UI_ARGS I am not an expert (rather basic knowledge) but this is really cryptic for me. Anyone knows what it is? Of course my mount doesn't work. My newly established system is working fine with 11.3 OpenSuse.

I'm trying to share two folders via NFS. First I share /media/disk/, that works fine and mounts on a remote computer as expected. Then I try to also share /home/Videos/ but when I add this folder to my /etc/exports I can't mount any of the shares. I have tried to both do it on command line and with the Yast tool but the result is the same. I have checked permissions on both folders and they are the same. Also if I try to share only /home/Videos/ it won't mount either. What am I doing wrong?

Our organization uses OpenSuSE servers (NFS/LDAP/SAMBA/more...) and are in the works migrating all the workstations for users to SuSE from Windows as well.
I like how in windows the mapped network drives are all listed in My Computer. OpenSuSE has a similar "My Computer" that lists current drives, and general PC info (in KDE, which is what we use in the office). Is there a way to list mounted drives in here, so that users can easily find the network drives? I'm open to alternatives to listing it in SuSE's sysinfo page, as long as it doesn't mean telling my old school windows users, "oh yeah, all your network drives are in /mnt/shares/...they wont have a CLUE what that means. It HAS to be easy for them to navigate to.
My attached image is just a screen shot of SuSE's "My Computer" so you can see where I would ideally like to put the shares.

I've updated my openSUSE 11.1 to 11.2 using installation DVD. After that, as system boots, I started to get lines like:

I am trying to connect my 2nd Gen Ipod to Xubuntu and import my music collection onto the Ipod. I am having real problems with this. Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

Its a dell e510 with about a gig of ram. I'm struggling to get my ipod touch working with the gtkpod ipod manager. At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I dont have a clue what to look for in the terminal results for "df -a"

I have an iPod Classic 6th Gen and am using Banshee for my music needs, however Banshee is not picking up my iPod. When I connect the iPod via my USB Cable, it is visible in the File Browser, and mounted to the Desktop. Banshee just isn't picking it up!

I know, I know, there a billion threads on the subject spread from Ubuntu forums to Yahoo Answers, but I like many I can't seem to make my fruit talk to a penguin. The odd thing is though, It worked (almost) flawlessly until I started messing around. Trying to install ideviceinstaller (which I never did get working), I tried to compile the source for the development version of libimobiledevice. When I did this, I got compiler error after compiler error. In the end I reinstalled libimobiledevice stable (1.0.4). The problems began here. I've installed everything in the FunkyM repo (except for debuginfo stuff), plus some stuff that isn't, yet I when I try to ifuse in terminal, I get the following error:

No device found, is it connected? If it is make sure that your user has permissions to access the raw usb device. If you're still having issues try unplugging the device and reconnecting it. And subsequently I can't use Gtkpod either.
Anyone got anything? I'm running 11.3, with a jailbroken 2nd gen iPod Touch running iOS 4.0.

I've just installed openSUSE 11.2 (with Gnome). Everything works fine except the Ipod support in Banshee (Ver. 1.6 Beta 2).
When I connect my Ipod Video 30GB to my Computer it is recognised in openSUSE and also a new Nautilus windows with the Ipod content is opened. But in Banshee there is no Ipod button or anything else which allows me to sync my music with Ipod.
I've already tried to delete the /home/{user}/.config/banshee-1 folder and installed the banshee-1-dmp-ipod package. The Ipod plugin (Ver. 1.0) is also installed in Banshee.

(Running openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.3). I finally got my iPod Touch (2nd Gen) mounted using ifuse and libimobiledevice, using the following command:

And I was really pleased to finally copy some music files onto my iPod using gtkpod. I navigated to the ~/iPhone/iTunes_Control/Music folder and found the folders F00 to F49. Output of ls -l */*:

I'm almost certain the files have been successfully copied to the device, because I've unmounted it, using:

fusermount -u ~/iPhone
and when I re-attached it, the files were still there.
So I just have a few problems:
1) gtkpod won't update the iPod database, even though a dialogue window opens and says it is doing just that. Does anyone know why this might be?
2) Dolphin doesn't recognise that the iPod is mounted? the command dmesg recognises it, but there's no fstab for it. I wonder if anyone knows how I could create a udev rule to automatically mount the iPod when I plug it in. And how can I make dolphin recognise it?
3) Amarok doesn't recognise that it is mounted. I have both 1.4 and 2. I presume this is for the same reason that Dolphin doesn't recognise it.

I just recently installed openSUSE 11.2 (KDE desktop). Like some others, I'm having trouble getting apps working with my iPod Touch. So far, I've tried two apps: amarok and gtkpod. Neither one seems to detect my iPod. When I connect the iPod to my computer, I get a popup indicating that some type of camera has been connected. Also, when I look at dmesg's output, I see stuff related to the iPod (Apple info) and no errors as far as I can tell. But I don't see any device file for it (either under /dev or /media).

I've got an ipod which I haven't used with my opensuse computer for a while, but recently tried to get it connected again. When I plug in the ipod, two devices show in Dolphin's "places" or in the KDE device notifier (in the plasma panel). One has the "name" I typed in when I set up the ipod with itunes, the other is labeled "iPod".
The one with the correct name mounts (albeit slowly, say 20 seconds or so) when I click on it in dolphin, but the second one doesn't mount and dolphin says "...mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock in /dev/sdc1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error...". "dmesg | tail" says "FAT: invalid media value (0x2f)" and "VFS: Can't find a valid FAT filesystem on dev sdc1".
Doing some further digging, under /dev/disk/by-id there are three entries for the ipod. One is "usb-Apple_iPod_xx-0:0 -> ../../sdc", the other two are "usb-Apple_iPod_xx-0:0-part1 -> ../../sdc1" and "usb-Apple_iPod_xx-0:0-part2 -> ../../sdc2". When I plug in my girlfriend's ipod, only the first two entries appear and there is only one listing in Dolphin's "places".
I don't remember this stuff happening last time I tried to use the ipod on the computer. I copied my songs to my hard drive and tried restore the ipod's default settings using my windows computer and itunes, but the same behavior continues. Has anyone else seen this? Should the ipod have these two partitions? Is there any way keep the non-functional part of the ipod from appearing in dolphin?

how to mount my old ipod shuffle 2gb on my opensuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5 "release 3". if i plug my ipod on my usb port than nothing happens. no auto mount, nothing, i can't see it or access it on my dolphin. my ipod works great on my windows vista partition zzzzzz. so how can i check the mount partition for my ipod or even create and test this partition manually? like, step-by-step instructions. i got the gtkpod installed but e can't use with my ipod because there's no connection for my device.
