OpenSUSE :: Banshee Doesn't Recognize Ipod?

Nov 14, 2009

I've just installed openSUSE 11.2 (with Gnome). Everything works fine except the Ipod support in Banshee (Ver. 1.6 Beta 2).

When I connect my Ipod Video 30GB to my Computer it is recognised in openSUSE and also a new Nautilus windows with the Ipod content is opened. But in Banshee there is no Ipod button or anything else which allows me to sync my music with Ipod.

I've already tried to delete the /home/{user}/.config/banshee-1 folder and installed the banshee-1-dmp-ipod package. The Ipod plugin (Ver. 1.0) is also installed in Banshee.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Ipod Mounts But Doesn't Load (banshee)?

Nov 13, 2010

(New thread due to significant change in info)5th gen iPod is recognized, but will not load files into banshee. It is the latest version of banshee. My ipod (named SON2) shows up in the menu, but when selected it hangs on "Loading SON2" and showing that it's busy...but this goes on without end, no files ever get loaded. Also, banshee doesn't recognize any music or video on the ipod, only "other". Steps taken so far:- A complete removal and reinstallation of banshee has had no effect.- Installed latest version of podsleuth, no effect- Previous had "automount" in nautilus preferences unchecked, rechecked - no effectPossible signs of danger:Running Banshee from Terminal output (CLICK HERE FOR NOPASTE OUTPUT)- skipping my song errors, at the bottom 4 warnings occur, followed by a number of failures which I don't understand

Ubuntu / Apple :: Banshee Not Seeing IPod?

May 26, 2010

Windows failed on me, so I've swapped to Ubuntu 10.04, and I'm having issues with the media players.

Rhythmbox was reading old ID3 tags, meaning all my music collection appeared messed up since I had apparently only been editing the newer tags in iTunes when I was on Windows. I tried using EasyTAG but then as soon as I loaded the music in Rhythmbox, it would just revert back to the old useless tags again.

I read around, and Banshee came highly recommended (so did Amarok, but that runs awful for me. :/) and I really like the layout and general appearance of Banshee, and it doesn't seem to screw with the file names or anything like Rhythmbox was doing, but my iPod does not appear at all.

It's a fairly new 160GB Classic iPod. Rhythmbox detects and edits files in it fine. Hipo iPod Management Tool does not detect it either.

The player does appear as a device on the desktop and I can access files on the player through that icon, but cannot get Banshee to recognize it so it can be managed in Banshee. If however, I log on as root, Banshee recognizes the device without a problem.

The log file in ~/.config/banshee-1 shows the following:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Syncing An IPod Nano With Banshee?

Jan 19, 2010

I am trying to get working properly with Ubuntu. Currently I am trying to get it to work with Banshee.Originally, my girlfriend connected it to iTunes running under Windows, and configured it and loaded music, photos and podcasts onto it. Unfortunately for her, the Windows machine had a hardware failure, and there is no other PC running real Windows for her to use. I have some Windows Virtual Machines on my Ubuntu server, but there are known problems passing through the iPod USB connection to a KVM Virtual Machine.

I tried iTunes under Wine (using the PlayOnLinux software to install and configure), but that also doesn't work (also apparently a known problem). So I am left with getting the iPod working with real native Ubuntu software. I tried Rhythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support writing to an iPod. Then I tried Banshee, which claims to be able to do it all.Banshee can connect to the iPod, and I can load music and videos onto the iPod, but:Banshee cannot see any of the music already on the iPod (loaded with ITunes),The iPod cannot see any of the files (music or video, nor any new Playlists) loaded by Banshee. The files are there (I can see them by browsing the iPod device with Nautilus), and they are certainly taking up storage space, but they do not show up when using the iPod directly. It is as if there are 2 iPods: the real iPod, and a virtual iPod accessed by Banshee.

I am running Banshee 1.6 Beta 3 (1.5.2), on Jaunty (9.04).When I first connected the iPod to Banshee it told me that, because the device had been used with a new version of iTunes, the media catalogue would have to be rebuilt, to which I agreed. I am starting to suspect that there are now 2 media catalogues on the iPod, one being used by Banshee, and the other by the iPod iteslf.

Ubuntu :: IPod Shuffle No Longer Works With Banshee?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a 3rd gen iPod shuffle which I had loaded music onto in Banshee a few months ago. It worked fine until yesterday when I decided I wanted to delete a few tracks from it. When I mounted it and opened Banshee it said I had to rebuild the database or something to that effect. I did that and could then see all the tracks on it. I went ahead and deleted the few tracks I wanted to remove, and ejected it. When I tried to use it, it says "please use itunes to sync music." A little confused, I went back and deleted all the tracks on it (using Banshee) and reloaded some tracks. It still won't work.

I haven't changed anything in Banshee (as far as I know) and I have never plugged the shuffle into itunes. I've always used Banshee to manage it and never had a problem. The only major change I can think of that might have made a difference is upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04.

Ubuntu :: Banshee 1.6 Beta 4 On 9.10 - Not Recognizing MP3 Player (iPod Or Sanza)

Feb 6, 2010

Had issues when 9.10 first came out with Banshee not recognizing my MP3 Player (iPod or Sanza). So, I went back to 9.04 as my music is very important. I decided to upgrade recently again to 9.10 and still having issues. Two things:

1. If I start Banshee and then attach my Sanza player, it pretty much kills Banshee. Screen goes dark and I have to kill it. It seems as if I connect my player first, then start Banshee, it picks it up and all looks good. Easy enough to do it this way, but just curious on it.

2. The Banshee is an 8GB and also has an 8GB SD card. In 9.04, this would show up in Banshee as two devices when connected so that I could copy music to/from either the native drive or the SD Card. Now, even when it connects as noted in #1, I only see the native 8GB on the Sanza... there is no SD Card listed, no ability to get to it, and neither of them show up on my desktop (in 9.04, they both showed up on desktop and in Banshee).

I am totally open to getting off the iPod... went out and bought the Sanza (which I love) specifically because of Ubuntu, open formats (ogg), etc. But, haven't been able to use it fully as I would like.

OpenSUSE Install :: VMWare Doesn't Recognize Usb Devices?

Aug 20, 2009

After a few tribulations, I managed to get VMWare server installed. The only problem is that it will not recognize any usb devices. I installed usb in the virtual machine using the VMWare interface and in preparation for that, I followed the instructions in the tutorial to the letter regarding fstab and the vmx file. Supposedly, at least according to Windows control panel, the usb controllers and interfaces are installed. The VMware web interface says the same thing. However, neither the Device tab on VMWare nor VMware Tools show any usb devices. The usb devices - a printer, removable drive, and magicjack - are all recognized by Linux. How can I get the virtual Windows machine to recognize the devices?

This is crucial since my major use for it is to run the magicjack which is not supported in Linux.

OpenSUSE Install :: Not Booting And 11.2 Repair Doesn't Recognize Itself?

However, when I restarted, my BIOS would not even recognize an OS on the hard drive. I was also unable to boot using the installation DVD. I tried to use the repair feature, and I would either get a message saying that the boot loader was corrupt,d could not be repaired, or that the package database didn't match the version of openSUSE installed. I've tried re-installing multiple times, all with the same results. I have tried different partition schemes and I've tried different booting settings, such as enabling boot from root or /boot partition

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: K3B Doesn't Recognize Disc In Drive?

Jul 20, 2010

My K3B doesn't seem to recognise a blank CD in the drive tray.

I'm on OS 11.2, K3B & codecs from 11.2 packman, and 11.2 KDE4 factory (ie kde4.4).

When I put a blank cd in, the kde4 device notifier shows me a blank cd and offers to create a project with k3b. I create a data project & click burn, the burn dialog has a greyed out Burn button, and the media selector dropdown says please insert an empty or appendable medium.

If I eject & re-insert the disc at this point, the device notifier again tells me I've inserted a blank cd, k3b's dialog freezes for a second (seems to notice something has happened) but still does not list my cd and remains as it was before.

k3bsetup reports no problems. Burning from commandline (cdrecord) works fine. Dolphin also knows about the blank cd. I've burned to these discs before with no problems (K3B used to work quite recently, perhaps 4 or 5 weeks ago). Updates have been applied in the meantime.
