I was surprised that I couldn't find a evolution-mapi package for openSuSE 11.4 on the install CD, network repos or the openSUSE build service site. I could find one for 11.2 but not for 11.3 or 11.4. It is available on Ubuntu and Fedora.

But as it's a Windows environment, I'm currently trying to see how Debian could cope with that, meaning how to register to LDAP (I found this: http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/battista/do ... index.html), get mails from MS Exchange, I saw that for other distributions, they were talking about evolution-mapi to achieve the mail retrieval from MS Exchange, but I saw that the package is not part of Debian Squeeze.Did I see correctly (sorry, Debian noob here )?Is there an alternative?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have F13 x86_64 with all updates. I tried to setup Evolution to access our corporate MS Exchange 2007 server, so I installed evolution-mapi-0.30.3-1.fc13.x86_64 , yum pulled in also dependecies samba4-libs-4.0.0-22.alpha11.fc13.x86_64 and openchange-0.9-2.fc13.x86_64.
Installation went OK, then I tried to setup the account in Evolution. I chose :
server type: Exchange MAPI
server: mailserver.corporatedomain.com
username: my.username
Domain name: corporatedomain.com
Of course, the names of server, domain and my username are different in reality, however, I entered them in the same format as written here. The communication with mailserver is on corporate internal LAN - no routers or firewalls between. When I click "Autheticate" it prompts me for password, I put in the correct password but I get the error: Authentication failed. MapiLogonProvider:MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED
I tried to put in the IP address of the mailserver instead of its network name, tried to put in the IP of the domain controller, enter the domain name in uppercase, all sorts of combinations but nothing works.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been running the Evolution mail system under Fedora-15/KDE for about a month now, and it has some very serious problems. I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I'm working now on Ubuntu machine .. and I'm configuring my MSN account on evolution but I found that I could only fetch it as POP ... and I hate that because I have lot of folders .

I have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.
I have installed a package on Centos 5.5, and need to find out the repository it came from, so I can enable the source rpms for that particular repository, and download the source, and rebuild the package. Is there some way using yum or rpm to find out which repo the installed package came from? I know Smart PM shows this info, but it has been hanging on Centos 5.5, for some strange reason, so that's not really an option for now.

I've looked in the Applications > System, searched for it and tried running it with the command line (kdesu adept). I just installed a package using the System -> Administration -> Add/Remove s/w tool.
How can I find information about what files it has installed and where? I was expecting to get some header files from this package but cannot find them in the normal places like /usr/include etc.

I want to get a list of all packages that provide a certain virtual package. A way of doing this would be to write a shell script that parses all output of Code: apt-cache search -f .* And spits out all packages that have the virtual package in the provides section. The problem with this approach is that it takes an awful long amount of time to execute. I guess that there should be a simple command that does this in an efficient manner, but which I wasn't able to find.

I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

I really like the evolution program and it seems to install just fine on the gnome version of openSuse 11.2 but if I install on KDE it's missing some icon files and I have to copy them from /usr/share/icons/gnome/NNxNN/actions/[filename].png to /usr/share/icons/oxygen/NNxNN/actions/[filename].png. The icon that staands out missing as soon as it's installed is th eone for send/receive email. it's file name is mail-send-receive.png
What I have to do is:install evolution and observe that the icon image is busted because the icon file isn't where it's supposed to be.
hand copy the files from /gnome to /oxygen (this doesn't fix it)
uninstall evolution
reinstall evolution
now the busted icon for send/receive mail is all better.How do I get this info to the folks that maintain evolution so they can add the missing icons to the install?
I am looking for an easy to use svn client for linux.I have been suggested to use kdesvn. The problem with that client is that there are a few things that I do not understand.
In kdesvn there is the
Subversion->Ceneral->check out repository
and there is also the File->open,
1) what is the difference between these two?
2) Also is there a way every time I launch kdesvn to have the same repository loaded in the same working directory?
3) When I change something into a file should I do file or whole folder commit? I am not sure what will be the best based on that I only write one comment which in the first case associates with the file only and in the latter associates with the whole folder.
4) What that blame button in the gui does?
