I have an application here that has some incompatibilities with java 1.6.0_11 and for this reason I must use java 1.6.0_7.The problem is that everyday the update applet shows me a message telling to update this package.Is there a way to disable the update of this package without removing OpenSUSE Update Repository?

What's the best way to permanently disable the package kit update applet in fedora 12. i really dislike my bandwidth being robbed unnecessarily from the other computers running fedora on the network.
System->Preferences->System->Software Updates is not working as it is supposed to.
What is the role of PackageKit? Do i really need it?
Is there a way to disable all popup notifications in openSUSE while still having it check for updates periodically. What I would like is for the notification icon to appear when an update is available but to not popup the notification message, or worse, show that dialog stating that some software sources were not available when I'm on the corporate network.
Also, is it possible to disable some updates like the recent KDE one? I right click it and there is an option to disable notification of an update but the menu item is disabled.
Do I have to update the package manager that comes with OpenSuse before I get all packages?For whatever reason using the live cd I can't find any of apps I am looking for but on packman.org I can find all of them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm on OpenSuSE 11.1, and since I needed some features of Firefox 3.5.x I manually updated via 1-Click intall to 3.5.8. Now the Updater-Applet signals a security repo update for FF 3.0.18 which is no longer installed since replaced by the 3.5.8, and I see no way to get rid of the red warning sign; this is very bad since now I get no longer informed about other new updates to really installed packages ....
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince applying a number of updates using the online update tool in Yast, the online update tool can no longer contact the software repositories which were configured in Yast.If i browse to the URL which is configured within the software repo config tool, I can see the updates & folders fine in Firefox.Zypper seems to do the same thing & just sits there if I do zypper update.I see a number of other people in this forum have had the same problems, any ideas as I couldn?t find a resolution?

I'd always assumed that the openSUSE update (applet) would notify me and update any apps installed from any of the configured repositories.This week I found two applications were not detected and updated, one from the Pacman repository where an update was available for more than 2 weeks and another from the Contrib repository where an update was available for an unknown amount of time.I manually detected and updated both using zypper without any special repository configuration.The SUSE updater has been running regularly installing critical and recommended patches regularly without issue.Am considering
- Maybe somewhere there is a config specifying repositories and/or apps? I can't seem to find something that's applicable.
- Maybe I misunderstood that the SUSE updater isn't supposed to update anything from non-OSS repositories?

When i update package sax2-tools to version 8.1-618.1, from Xorg repository 11.2, it autimatically offers to delete the following packages:
sax2
sax2-gui
sax2-ident
sax2-libsax
sax2-libsax-perl
Dont know if this is a wanted behaviour.
how certain packages such as glib, yast2, etc. are part of "Online update" i.e. new versions show up there, whereas certain packages are not (e.g. NVIDIA drivers). Is it a setting on the repository, the package, or does the new version need to be labelled specifically?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just visited this page here, Updating openSUSE - openSUSE I have been trying to update my OpenSuSE system for a week now and I have absolutely no idea what causes this problem. The update would start but would stop right in the middle and refuse to install some pulseaudio(...) package... It would indicate that network is down while I am sure it is up.
I am behind a proxy and I have again and again made sure that the proxy settings are correct and alright. Since it downloads some of the packages in the start I believe my connection and settings are OK. Maybe the SuSE server is down, but not for a whole week, I don't think so. I would also like to mention that I have only tried updating through YaST GUI and I am, as of yet, unaware of any console or command-line methods of updating.
I really would like to update my system because I happen to be paranoid in matters of computer security. (Just kidding) But since I cannot install any updates it should mean I might have problem installing new software. So my digital life is literally crippled because of this problem.
Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI just finished the update. Though everything seems to work just fine hardware wise... somehow it was decided that I'd prefer netbook remix over the standard install. I hate it! I can't seem to find any way to get the standard desktop mode back, and I feel like after the upgrade, my fan has been working overtime for some reason.
Can someone point me in the right direction to disable netbook remix? I really cant stand it.

My question is, can I still get updates for Maverick without being prompted for upgrade to Natty? Also I would like to remove the button from Update Manager. Is there a simple way to do that?

A package I'm trying to install requires libdrm, version 2.4.3 at least. I downloaded version 2.4.6.7, when I tried to install it, it says that it already is even though I passed -U to rpm. Trying to remove the earlier version of libdrm first didn't work either because there are already packages installed depending on it. How can I upgrade this package? (yum isn't an option at this time)

Its an easy enough job, I just remote in to each "machine", and use Synaptic to update. Well, we have a package that was created here "key-build-tools-g6" and for some reason, after I update and go to close Synaptic, it says "There are still marked changes that have not yet been applied. They will be lost if you choose to quit 'Synaptic'". If I cancel and "Apply Updates" then look at the "Details" it says "key-build-tools-g6 (version 18) will be upgraded to version 18". I go ahead and update it again, it downloads, and installs, but then when I go to exit... Same thing.
