Jul 28, 2010Sorry for harping on, but aMSN used to have sounds in Fedora. Is there something I need to enable in openSUSE?

Mar 24, 2010After installing an external sound card, Im having some weird issues. The cards chipset is fully supported by suse, (CM8738) so I dont think thats the problem. Besides, I'm getting sound, but not in some applications. The system's sounds work just fine (login, logout themes) amarok plays without any problems, kaffeine, mplayer they all work flawlessly, in fact I can see the difference in quality between the onboard sound and my new card. However, no web browser is able to play any sound at all, firefox, opera or chrome, nothing,zip. Plus, vlc cant reproduce sound either, nor can smplayer.
I've tried switching channels on and off(muting)in kmixer and in alsamixer, on the console, with no results. I disabled the onboard audio on the bios before installing the new card, however my ati video card has integrated sound, which I cant disable.... I used to get this exact same problem randomly with the onboard sound, but I just had to go to kmixer and turn up the "pcm" channel volume, which was set to 0, and I had sound again on my browser. However this card's pcm channel is at max and turning it up or down affects the whole systems volume, not just the browser's. Is it better to just reinstall the sound system, if so how could I do that.
Fedora :: SVN Amsn And Farsight2 ?
Jul 9, 2010I installed amsn from SVN, I had gnutls and libv4l with its devel packages installed at compile time, and after I installed it I set amsn to msnp18 via amsn's console to enable the experimental video conferencing.
My issue is when I go to configure A/V, farsight2 throws this error when amsn checks for farsight2

Perhaps I missed something when translating the ubuntu-named farsight dependencies to fedora's equivalent? Anybody see a solution to this?
I am using Fedora 13 64-bit, the system is up to date.

Feb 10, 2010Neither pidgin, aMSN, nor empathy will connect to my hotmail account, pidgin connects to xfire and gmail fine, but not to my hotmail, so i have to use ebuddy, which i don't like. The weird thing is that for a period of time it won't connect, then it works again (aMSN and empathy too) and after a while it'll stop working again. Also my buddies in hotmail usually see me offline, even though my status is set to online.
aMSN gives me: "error connecting to server" pidgin gives me: "Connection error from Notification server: Reading error"

Mar 1, 2010Ever since installing aMSN 0.98.2 I have not been getting the normal audio notification of incoming messages although that feature is enabled in the program. Actually, I do get an audio alert for the very first incoming message but after that, nothing. Other audio alerts, such as when someone signs in or out, do work fine. I am using Ubuntu 9.04. The Windows version of that release works fine and that's what I've been using in recent weeks but I hate going to Windows for my IM.

That returned nothing. So, valve is not in the plugins that we have. Apparently, it is not in the farsight that we have either, if I've interpreted posts right.
And my issue is that I've never built from source or package or anything. sudo apt-get install and adding to the sources.list file is the experience I have. So, if I need to do source building, I'll need guidance.

I don't know what to do next, or what my options are at this time. All of my friends/family use MSN and/or Skype with MS Windows or Mac. I am able to get sound/voice to work but no visuals.

Mar 7, 2010I installed Mangler and one of its requirements was pulse-audio. I installed pulse-audio everything worked great except i couldn't get sound out of wow if i started mangler first and vice-versa. I then found a version of Mangler that worked with alsa. So i uninstalled mangler and pulse-audio, installed mangler-alsa. Everything works great now. The problem is when i uninstalled Pulse-audio i lost all my sliders in Yast > Hardware > Sound > other > volume. The only thing that shows up is master volume > Test. My sound works great just can't adjust anything. How do i get my sliders back. I would like some advice before i screw something up. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Snd_sbawe ISA Sound Card Not Giving Sound
Feb 9, 2010I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.

Jun 24, 2010I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
