View 1 Replies View RelatedNeither pidgin, aMSN, nor empathy will connect to my hotmail account, pidgin connects to xfire and gmail fine, but not to my hotmail, so i have to use ebuddy, which i don't like. The weird thing is that for a period of time it won't connect, then it works again (aMSN and empathy too) and after a while it'll stop working again. Also my buddies in hotmail usually see me offline, even though my status is set to online.
aMSN gives me: "error connecting to server" pidgin gives me: "Connection error from Notification server: Reading error"
I have this kind of problem , i want to browse a picture from my second drive . But i can't ? Why is that? I totally see the hard drive i can do what ever i want from the bar of linux, but inside the aMSN, i go change picture>browse and i try to find from the roll down menu, the "other hard drive" but it doesn't show me anything,it's just showing the local.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed amsn from SVN, I had gnutls and libv4l with its devel packages installed at compile time, and after I installed it I set amsn to msnp18 via amsn's console to enable the experimental video conferencing.
My issue is when I go to configure A/V, farsight2 throws this error when amsn checks for farsight2
Code:
I believe I have all the dependencies as listed on this page [url]
Perhaps I missed something when translating the ubuntu-named farsight dependencies to fedora's equivalent? Anybody see a solution to this?
I am using Fedora 13 64-bit, the system is up to date.
Sorry for harping on, but aMSN used to have sounds in Fedora. Is there something I need to enable in openSUSE?
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since installing aMSN 0.98.2 I have not been getting the normal audio notification of incoming messages although that feature is enabled in the program. Actually, I do get an audio alert for the very first incoming message but after that, nothing. Other audio alerts, such as when someone signs in or out, do work fine. I am using Ubuntu 9.04. The Windows version of that release works fine and that's what I've been using in recent weeks but I hate going to Windows for my IM.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy girlfriend is using Karmic and we're trying to get video and audio to work in aMSN.
We confirmed farsight is installed:
Code:
libgstfarsight0.10-0:
Installed: 0.0.15-1ubuntu1
Candidate: 0.0.15-1ubuntu1
Version table:
[Code].....
That returned nothing. So, valve is not in the plugins that we have. Apparently, it is not in the farsight that we have either, if I've interpreted posts right.
And my issue is that I've never built from source or package or anything. sudo apt-get install and adding to the sources.list file is the experience I have. So, if I need to do source building, I'll need guidance.

Is it possible? To integrate aMSN into the key communication menu that is. aMSN is superior to empathy for one clear reason, file transfers work!

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and have installed aMSN from the repositories. But when i try to set up my Logitech webcam the whole aMSN program freezes solid and the only way i can get rid of it is to restart the computer.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAccording to this aMSN is included in Debian Squeeze, but when I try to install it with aptitude it can't find it. it can find (and correctly installs) amsn-data. Why, and how do I solve this? I'd rather not install through other means if at all possible.

I don't know what to do next, or what my options are at this time. All of my friends/family use MSN and/or Skype with MS Windows or Mac. I am able to get sound/voice to work but no visuals.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist
View 2 Replies View Relatedyesterday I upgraded my Fedora installation via preupgrade from 11 to 12.Now there are some icons missing! If I go to the 'System' menu in the panel, there are no icons at all.If then I select the 'Settings' submenu, all of its icons are visible.I figured out that the package redhat-menus and fedora-icon-theme make up the representation of this icons and reinstalled them. Then I additionally executed 'gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders-64 > /etc/gtk-2.0/x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu/gdk-pixbuf.loaders' (I read this somewhere in the forum).
But nothing happend so far?!
I made further efforts trying to find out the icon of the System Configuration Menu (Syst -> Administration). The file '/usr/share/desktop-directories/SystemConfig.directory' contains the icon that should be displayed for the System->Administration menu. This file contains the line: Icon=preferences-system Good so far.I thought that selecting the gnome icon theme would fix this problem, but this also didn't help! Now I'm at the end of my knowledge (or I don't want to rename single icons to match the names required)...
Just installed 9.10 and bloody loving it, Even though i love my Windows 7, This is just great learning all about Linux. Install was a breeze and installing normal apps are fine, but when we get to stuff like changing icons and stuff, this is just way over my head. All i want is icons that sort of look like MAC icons or Glass type icons, i downloaded a set from Deviantart and im that retarted i cant even follow the instructions...
[ReadMe to black-white 2
1.Change your main menu icon
2.different folder icons
1.-add a "Main Menu" to your panel
-run gconf-editor
-navigate to /app/panel/objects
-find a object_x with the "object_type=menu-object".
- tick up "use_custom_icon"
-type in "custom_icon" start-here1, start-here2, ... , start-here11
- if you doesn't like any of this icons you can browse here to an image of your choice
2.In this version I add some different icons for your downloads, documents, music,... folder.
-To use them you must unpack the tar.gz package.
-right click on the folder you wants to change and presspreference
-click on the folder icon and browse to the unpacked black-white2.tar.gz folder and go on to / scalable/places (sometimes /scalable/places/256)
-choose your folder and press open.]
These kind of instructions are way to advanced for a everyday windows user.. Are there any other easier guides out there to do this kind of stuff?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the icons for some applications (calculator and gkrellm). I have tried the following:
-For the calculator I navigate to usr/share/applications , then right click the icon that i want to change, then select properties , then click on the icon and browse for the new icon. Once I do that the icon changes only in the properties window, i.e. if i go to applications/accessories the old icon is still there. Also the old icon is still shown in gnome-do's docky.
-For gkrellm, I have done the same thing and nothing happens either.
