When I go to connect my computer to my wireless internet the option for wireless is greyed out as well as Wired, Mobile Broadband and DSL. I was able to connect to my wireless internet with no problems when I tried it on the Live CD so is this happening now? I have only just installed it, I am running 32-bit OpenSUSE 11.4 KDE.

when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

Attached is a picture of my desktop.
As you can see, there is no wireless option, but only a wired one.
Does anyone know of anything that could be causing this. Just downloaded 10.10 today.

I have a BCM4312 wireless card, using the B43 drivers. It works perfectly fine, except when I bought a new Buffalo Router. I set up the wireless security to be WPA2, but when I use my laptop to connect, the only options are WEP 40/128 key, WEP 128 bit passphrase, LEAP and Dynamic. No WPA of any kind. When I go to edit the wireless settings, I can change the security to WPA2 but when I try to connect again, the wireless manager simply creates another wireless profile with the exact same name with the security WEP. What do I do about this stubborn wireless manager?

Tried the gksudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces added these lines: auto wlan1
iface wlan1... IT CHANGES to device not managed, tried /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf:
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
[ifupdown]
managed=false
Changing it to true the d link is again disabled?
3. When d link is plugged, ubuntu boots but stuck after login screen?
On Vista, home network I use wpa2 psk protection, essid not broadcasting, hidden.

I own an hp dv9000 laptop, it comes with a Broadcom STA Wireless card... I currently have my laptop connected to the internet through a wired connection, but there is no option at all for wireless.I've already installed the Additional Drivers to install the Broadcom STA Wireless Drivers, and after I reset, there was no difference, no option to choose wireless instead.

I'm trying to connect to a new router that has WPA2-PSK encryption.In the connection window Ubuntu presents when choosing the network from the wifi menu, there are only the 3 WEP options (40/128 bits, 128 bits, and dynamic) plus LEAP. But no WPA2-PSK or any other WPA..I know for sure my router is set to WPA2-PSK and not to WEP.

I want to create the following network:
I have a Belkin 54g ADSL Router/Modem connected to ADSL
I connect my laptop (Ubuntu 8.04) wirelessly to this router
I have a Netgear DGN2000 Router/Modem with NO connection to ADSL
I connect my desktop to the Netgear using a wired connection
I want to bridge the two routers and use the internet on the desktop
The Belkin 54g Router setup has options for Wireless Bridge.. I have selected "Enable Wireless Bridging"; as far as I can tell there is no corresponding option in the Netgear DGN2000's settings to act as a wireless bridge. I have changed the ESSID, Security, and Channel all to the same settings and when I turn on the Netgear router the signal strength of the network dramatically increases. I am unsure whether this is the "Bridge" connected... or if the Netgear's signal is just drowning out the Belkin's signal. In any case I cannot use the internet when connected to the network with the Netgear turned on. What do I do?
Or is there some way I can share internet like this:
wireless wired
ADSL--->Belkin54g----------->Laptop-------------->Desktop

running Fedora 15 on a Dell Inspiron 1521. When I first installed Fedora on this laptop, I was unable to connect to a wireless network because I did not have the firmware installed, so being a good little enthusiastic new user of Fedora, I set out on a quest to locate the proper firmware. I had success on that front, however, in the process of installing it, the option to connect to any wireless network disappeared. It isn't that there is no wireless network in range, rather, the entire wireless option itself has vanished.

I am using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx (10.04)I have a wireless card in my PC that I only use very occasionally so I uncheck the Enable Wireless option on the network tool icon to stop the system attempting to connect to my wireless network. That works fine for that session, but the system does not seem to remember this setting and attempts to connect the wireless each time I log in! Is this a feature or a bug? and does anyone know a way of defaulting the wireless option to off

right now, my machine runs ubuntu 10.10 due to work issue, i need to use windows server 2008 R2 (its a windows exclusive company) but i never used any of the active directory or anything from the windows server (only experience with windows is visual studio and those GAMES!), so i figure i need to practice a bit on my own b4 starting the job and just at the same time I found out as a univ student i get it for free! And plus, I am finding opensuse a better option for me than ubuntu So im wondering what i should do regarding these 2 systems here s some option
1). Install openSuse 11.4, and install VirtualBox and use windows server 2008 R2 on vbox
2). Install windows server 2008 R2 and then install openSuse alongside with it
3). Install windows server 2008 R2 and install openSuse in virtualBox
I have been using linux as my primary OS for more than a year now and I rlly need it for both school and my own entertainment. So wondering which option would best work out for me
wat are your opinions? PS: my machine is about 2 years ago a Dell laptop, with core 2 duo p8700 (2.53ghz) 4GB ram, and nvidia gfx, which even tho is still fast, but isnt rlly that snappy when it comes to virtualization even running xp in a virtual machine is quite laggy at times :S

I have a SONY PCG-R505TE laptop with an external CD/DVD, it connects via what I think is a PCMCIA card, the drive came with the laptop and functions fine. I currently have Windows XP running on this laptop, but it's very slow.I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso and sucessfully burned it to a CD.I have the laptop bios set to boot from CD, and it appears to be doing that no problem. When it boots I first see the welcome screen, then the openSUSE Installer, whether I select the Live (GNOME) option, or the Installation.. it loads the kernel, and then loads the KIWI boot systemit is on the third event, waiting for CD/DVD dvices to appear... that something seems to fail... I then see Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drivethen a rebootexception and it reboots in 120 seconds.

Can't Firefox update from inside Firefox without yast or command line?

My wireless broadband connection was working fine until this morning. I am running UNR 9.04 on an acer aspire one. For some reason i have no option to enable wireless and i don't know what i have done. When i right click all that shows up is "enable networking" but there is no optiont to "enable wireless" anymore. I tried flicking the switch on my netbook to see if that had caused the problem but after doing it and rebooting its still the same.

I'm running 11.04 on a Compaq presario CQ56. The network dropdown menu doesn't even show "Enable wireless" as an option, which makes me think that the wireless card's driver and/or firmware isn't installed. The network card is a Ralink, but I can't figure out which model/chipset
Here is the relevant output for lspci -vnnk:

Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1636]

First, openSuse 11.4 64bit fresh install, KDE 4.6.0. Clicking on the "Adios" button brings up a window offering the Logout, Turnoff and Restart options. In openSuse 11.3 the Restart option had a drop down menu which allowed one to choose the operating system to restart. This useful feature seems to have disappeared in 11.4. Is there any way in which I can reinstate it?

Under Windows XP in the C Drive, I've downloaded PLoP boot manager to force the USB boot. I've tried about a thousand things and I get a different error message at different times from each attempt. I've got all of those documented, and I imagine I'll need to post them. I'm just not doing it quite yet as sometimes I give too much information and I really feel that I'm being an idiot here, missing something simple.
I'd like to install openSUSE onto the D Drive, using the USB and PLoP to boot it. I've downloaded openSUSE's torrents for all iso's (Net, DVD and LiveKDE). In order to get those files onto the USB, I first format to FAT32. I've tried UNetBootIn, LiLi, and mounting the iso on Daemon Tools and then copy-paste into the hard drive. None of these work and they all give different errors.Is this even possible, am I wasting my time? This is getting incredibly frustrating as I've been at it for nearly a week.

Where do I set the default mount options for automounted removable drives, like memory cards?Right now the cards are being mounted with shortname=lower. That option causes my (vfat) memory card's files to appear with lowercase letters, but I'm more used to have 8.3-style msdos filenames as uppercase, (unless specifically mixed case). I've tried editing the setting in gconf, as well as editing /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi, nothing works. Mount keeps using shortname=lower, regardless of what settings I put in those 2 locations.Searching the forums gave me those 2 locations above, and nothing too current.

In the Compiz Fusion Desktop Wall plugin settings, I can normally find a "Non Sliding Windows" option (Or at least, I've been able to in recent installs of Ubuntu). However, in the default installation of Compiz that comes with OpenSUSE 11.2, I don't have that option. I double checked to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, and on my Ubuntu 10.4 laptop it IS present (In CCSM under the Desktop Wall Plugin's "Viewport Switching" tab). I even went so far as to check to see if it's in the gconf database, and it's not on Suse, but is on Ubuntu. Installing the compiz extras package did not help. I even tried putting the key into the gconf database on Suse, but of course it didn't work.
The only thing I noticed is that Suse appears to be using an older version of Compiz (Suse: compiz 0.7.8; Ubuntu: compiz 0.8.4). Being a fairly experienced linux user (however being new to Suse itself), I'd like to check if there is a simpler solution than compiling from scratch. Anyone ever run across this/solved this already? The final goal is to make my desktop wallpaper and gnome panels static when viewport sliding.
