OpenSUSE Wireless :: Icon Showing As 'unmanaged'

Aug 2, 2010

I set up a friend's laptop with opensuse 11.3 yesterday and everything was working fine. He has been playing about with it today and now cannot connect to his wireless access point.

It was set up to automatically connect to the wireless network but now the wireless icon (bottom right hand corner of the screen) is shown as 'unmanaged'.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Was Unmanaged. Got That Message When Clicked The Icon At The Right-bottom Bar?

May 8, 2010

language-pack-en, language-pack-en-base, language-pack-kde-en, language-pack-kde-en-base, libsoup2.4-1, libsoup-gnome2.4-1, pm-utils today on my laptop. Some hours later, I had to force the computer to shut down by pressing the power button, since it got totally lagged when I started it after an automatic sleep due to no power left. I started it, logged in and saw that the network manager was unmanaged. I got that message when I clicked the icon at the right-bottom bar.

So, I tried with "ifconfig" in a Terminal, as root.Therefor, I did "sudo ifconfig eth1 up", and the same with eth0. The network manager did not work anyways. I killed it using "sudo killall -9 knetworkmanager" and started it with "knetworkmanager" from the Terminal. The icon got removed and it appeared again, but nothing changed - it said "network manager disables", as before.I logged off and select "Restart X server" from the login screen. I logged in again and tried. Didn't work. When I restarted my computer I saw that eth0 and eth1 was down again. I took them up and then I checked the hardware settings. I saw that I could use either KNetworkManager, Fake Net or Wicd. I tried to locate if I had Wicd or Fake Net installed, but I hadn't.

Neither the wireless or the wired connection works now. I'd like to know how to fix the Network Manager, or whatever is wrong. Also, I'd like to know if I can install Wicd using a CD or something. Maybe Wicd works better, I have no idea. I'm using Kubuntu 10.04, the final release.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working Despite Icon Showing 100% - Asked For Keyring Password Twice

Dec 15, 2010

Until this morning, my Wireless had always been working fine. This morning I rebooted after an Ubuntu update and now:

- I am asked twice for "enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock" whereas before I was always just asked once.

- The connection seems to be established, with the icon showing good reception and the tooltip reads "Wireless network connection 'mywifi' active: mywifi (100%)

BUT I can not connect to any website or ping the machines of my network, even by IP address. All of the other computers around (Mac, Windows) can use the Wireless as usual. My Wireless is WPA-PSK TKIP hidden SSID. My Ubuntu is 10.10 Maverick.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Belkin USB Wireless Not Showing In YAST

Jun 16, 2010

I have a Belkin F5D8055au USB wireless adapter which I can't configure in YAST. I have downloaded the RT2870sta driver from RALink and compiled it - seemed to be ok. Modprobe loads it ok. Some info:

[Code]...

When I open network settings in YAST my wired (ethernet) card shows up but not the USB. If I manually add a wireless card, I can't select the kernel module from the drop down list - there is nothing in it. At that point I abort YAST. So, how do I convince YAST that there really is a USB wireless adapter connected?

Ubuntu :: Wireless Tray Icon Is Turning A Wireless Icon?

May 25, 2010

I have Ubuntu 10.04 installed on a laptop of mine, and also a desktop. On this laptop, it's a clean install and I'm having a weird issue with the panel on the top of thescreen.ometimes when I start up the computer and login, I get two noticeable quirks. Instead of having the wireless icon in the tray next to the volume, I have two volume controls next to each other. The one icon, that takes place of the wireless icon, is not functional. The other volume icon functions as normal.

The other quirk is that my power button, used for choosing to logout, shutdown, etc, isappears. Instead, it shows two of my username next to each other (one is the legitimate one that lets you set your away status and such). And in place of the power button, is another username menu, but it is cut off by the edge of the screen and doesn't function.Has anybody had this problem before? Is there some kind of package I can update or reinstall to try fixing this? Sometimes the power button will be fine, but the volume icon will still double up.

Ubuntu Networking :: Icon Not Showing Up After Making The Ip Static?

Mar 3, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - the Lucid Lynx.

I intended to make my IP static by opening the file network interfaces "sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces" and adding the following

"auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.168.1.100
netmask 255.255.255.0

[Code]....

and then restarting the network "sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart" The static ip setting is successful except for the warning "warning produced: SIOCDELRT: No such process" When i enquire for ifconfig the ip was set static to 192.168.1.100 and i was connected to the internet and everything works fine. But when i restart the system the network icon at the right top corner disappears and am not able to get connected to the internet.

And when i remove the block of code mentioned above and restarted my system, everything works fine. How can i make my ip static? What is preventing my static ip configuration.

Ubuntu :: Systray Not Showing TrueCrypt Icon - Sort This Out?

May 18, 2011

As in the title - When I use truecrypt it (normally) puts an icon in the systray. I need to click on this icon when i've finished with the volume in order to unmount the volume and exit the program. This is very important as I share this volume across computers and it can't be mounted on more than one at a time.

However the icon does not play with the new unity DE, not showing up at all, and leaving me with only one option - to open a terminal and find and kill all TC processes. Obviously killing processes in this way is technically not ideal and is time consuming too.

Any ideas how to sort this out anyone?

I also installed compizconfig and docky then it disappeared. would this have anything to do with this?

I attached a screen shot here to show this issue.

Fedora Networking :: Showing Wlan Icon In Upper Right Hand

Jan 12, 2011

I've been using Fedora 13 for a few months now on my desktop and since ethernet is not a choice I needed to use a wlan adapter. I did a little research and ended up using a Linksys WUSB54G ver. 4 which worked great (plug and play, no ndiswrapper or any other configuration required) on my wireless g network, using WEP protection. About a week ago I started looking for methods of upgrading my system because. well I just like being somewhat current.

Anyway I used a Fedora 14 Install DVD and used the upgrade option and it worked. All my settings (seem) to be exactly the same as my Fedora 13 settings were and the appearance and location of files etc. are all the same. Now, for some odd reason, to me at least, Fedora isn't showing a wlan icon in the upper right hand (by the way I'm using GNOME) corner like it used to and doesn't seem to have configured my wlan device correctly. I ran lsusb and it shows the device ID (13b1:000d) and the name (Linksys WUSB54G v4 802.11g Adapter [Ralink RT2500USB]) I'd just like to get my adapter working again like it did in 13. I have kernel version 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.i686.

Ubuntu :: Multi-user Network Manager Applet Icon Not Showing

May 11, 2010

My family uses a computer running Ubuntu 10.04. We each have a separate login. This computer connects to the internet via wifi.

A behaviour which I have noticed is as follows - the first user to log in gets the network manager applet icon. So they can control the network connection. Any other user that subsequently logs in does not.

Now this is a real pain in the butt as sometimes our wifi connection drops and I might have left my wife logged in and used the 'switch user' function to get access to my login. The only way I can access the applet is by switching back to her login.

Is there any way to make this appear in everyone's login's at the same time?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Network Icon Shows "lock" Icon When Trying To Connect

May 16, 2010

3 computers in the house run various windows based programs and everything is fine with them connecting to the internet as far as putting in the security password to log in and get online. My old back up computer that I use in the basement that has Ubuntu 9.10 was working fine with the secured network situation up until today.I booted up the computer this morning and it automatically connected as it typically does and I was reading some email and then the computer froze, which on rare occasions it does.

Upon reboot I got a window that asked for the password for the Network Manager Applet which I supplied and then it asked for the password for the secured internet connection which I supplied. It would not connect. After numerous tries of disabling the wireless and enabling the wireless and entering the Network Manager Applet password and the secured internet password I still get no connection.

I notice that when it is trying to connect, the window comes up on the screen that shows that there is reception from the modem, but there is also a little "lock" icon like I'm locked out of the connection.I finally found a way to get rid of the Network Manager Applet password problem but that still didn't alleviate the connection problem.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: "Secure" Icon On Open Network?

Jul 1, 2010

My wireless is working well enough for me to post this, but does go down from time to time (still troubleshooting the cause.. may be a Cisco Anyconnect VPN client, or Amarok). From time to time the connection will just drop out, and I will have to reboot to get it to reconnect. In these times, dhcpcd eth1 ends up timing out, and if I look at the networkmanager log, that also shows a timeout. wllist scan will show the nearby APs, though, and iwlist will show the card as "connected" to an ap (ssid and all), but no pings will work and dhcpcd will continue to say it times out.Anyhow, I noticed that most of the time when I do a scan in Knetworkmanager, the attached screen appears - I am concerned, because I know that these are open APs, and also that it is showing quite a few too many. If I completely wipe Knetworkmanager and reinstall, are there any gotchas that might be worth knowing about?
