I recently set up a new desktop with openSUSE 11.3 64-bit GNOME, and I'm having some trouble getting the wireless to behave.I'm using a D-Link wireless USB, which uses a Ralink chipset. According to dmesg, the firmware is rt2870.bin.I can connect to the network, but it automatically disconnects after a while.

The dmesg output shows firmware request (highlighted with red font), but I have already installed the firmware using YAST.
When I first turn it on to the desktop, it automatically connects and disconnects automatically 5 times then sometimes it would disconnect a few times randomly out of the blue.
This ia an external single usb wireless adapter you plug in the usb port on my desktop tower.
at start, knetworkmanager detect wireless network, but doesn't automatically connect - I have to restart it to make it work properly. Instead, it gives that error:

I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I already configured the wireless network via the standard NetworkManager but the connection never starts automatically. When I boot up it reports all the wireless connections available and also let me connect to hidden networks (mine is not broadcasting so I have to use this option). I had to reconfigure my network options the first time I selected Hidden Networks but it connects fine. Please note I had already selected the "Automatic connection" optionSo the only question is how I configure my equipment so it connects automatically to the already configured network

Just moved over to openSUSE 11.4 (KDE) from Ubuntu, yesterday. However, I'm having some trouble with my wireless connection.
I have a wireless network with a hidden SSID and WPA2-PSK security. I entered all the nescery information into the KDE network manager, but it couldn't find my network. So I ran the usual command:

At which point, the network manager immediately found, and connected to, the network. However, it seems that I have to run this command (as root) each time I log in, before my laptop will connect to the network. The network manager has no problem find the plethora of unsecured networks as well as those that are secure, but broadcast their SSID.
I have a fresh installation on ubuntu 10.10. And I installed b43-fwcutter, but after a while it disconnects. So then i disable wireless and enable it again and it works, why is this happening??n How can I stop it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI managed to get recognized my Trendnet TEW-424UB wireless USB adaptor with ndiswrapper. Now I have the configuration problem. When I try to do the configuration in Yast, in network devices -> network settings and I save I get a message that I must install the "iw" package. Because the computer is quite far from wired networks I can't get it on Internet to download the package automatically. So, I want to ask if it's possible to install this package off-line because I can't find it by searching on OpenSUSE website.
On this computer I use OpenSUSE 11.2 32-bit with KDE. I put some commands if someone wants to know how I manage to get this USB WiFi adaptor to work (with the Windows XP driver sis163u verison 5.1.1039.1050):

After futzing around for several hours on two different evenings, I got it working all by myself! The only thing is,ow I have to manually connect to my wireless network every time,which gives me a a great sense of accomplishment. I start the computermber having to edit a script somewhere to make it connect automatically on system startup, but I can't remember what it is I'm supposed to edit or how I'm supposed to edit it

After I updated to kernel-2.6.27.9-159.fc10 a couple of weeks ago, my wireless kept dropping the connection every few minutes (using an intel 3945 with the kernel iwl driver), particularly if secured with WPA. Updating to the 2.6.27.12-170.2.5.fc10 kernel currently in updates-testing has solved the problem.

The only problem that is left (for now) is that my wireless LAN disconnects 1-2 times every 30 minutes, just to reconnect a few seconds later. Obviously that is very annoying, especially when watching streams on twitch, videos on youtube and so on.A thread I found on google suggested to use the command dmesg right after my wireless lan connection drops. So I waited for the next disconnect, issued the command and got the following output:

I'm using an Acer Aspire One d250 running Netubuntu 10.04. The wireless connection to my router fails at random intervals and spends most of it's time trying to reconnect. It will occasionally ask me to input the password to the network, which is already entered in the dialog box, and clicking "connect" doesn't seem to make any difference. It's not my router because it works fine on my sister's netbook (which is also running ubuntu) and it worked fine when I was running windows? I'm not very advanced with linux so you know. I don't have IPv6 enabled. My laptop is an "Advent QRC430" my wireless card is QCOM Q802XKG Wireless Network Card.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using Fedora 13 x64 and have noticed a strange problem with my wireless.
At random intervals it will disconnect, be it 5 minutes or 3 hours and then it will not re-auth no matter how long I leave it. The wireless is running WPA/WPA2, With TKIP/AES encryption. The router only supports b/g and the Wireless NIC is only b/g.
Not sure what driver/software it is using. I noticed I do have wpa_supplicant installed but there doesnt seems to be much happening in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf apart from the below.

My wireless disconnects after around 10 minutes. It does not reconnect automatically. I've to pull out the usb dongle and then put it back in to connect again.

I upgraded to Karmic the other day and my Wireless Internet has been disconnecting every hour or so. I had the same problem on Intrepid but I managed to fix it somehow. After disconnecting, it will reconnect after a few seconds.

The wireless just cuts out and reconnects.And I was hoping to continue or follow up on the same thread however with the released version.I tried replacing network manager with wicd and I tried the other driver options both without success.I'm currently using the Broadcom B43 driver, when I tried the Broadcom STA driver wireless would not work. I use the 64 bit OS, and this problem did not appear prior to the upgrade.

What is going on?
I facing a really annoying problem. I download regularly during the night using Wifi. The problem is that because I'm away, the wireless just disconnects and the pop window shows up asking me to into the password. The password is already saved in the windows so I just have to click 'connect'ut I don't understand why does it disconnect and when it tries to connect it asks for password again!y doesn't it simply 'try' to connect without asking the password when it is already saved.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from Maverick Meerkat to (classic) Natty Narwhal Ubuntu Linux. I am running on a Toshiba Satellite A665 (Intel i7). I use a wireless internet connection. Under Maverick, I had no issues. Under the update, I am finding that occasionally things stop working: The indicator Applet looks fine, but from a terminal, I find that I am no longer able to ping my own router (less than 10 feet away.) This behavior occurs after working fine for a few hours. I am unsure if anything in particular triggers it (I will report back if I determine a particular cause). I have a few other computers (2 running Windows, and the other Maverick Meerkat) -- and they are unaffected. Turning wireless off and on resolves the issue for me on Natty. Rebooting also works. Here's some hopefully relevant technical details about my system:

I'm having issue with my wireless connection. I'm not sure if it is the WPA security causing the issue, but I randomly lose connection to the router. The network manager then scans for available wireless routers for a bit before trying to reconnect to my router and asking for my wireless password again.

I had tried it on another computer, installing it alongside Windows, and liked it enough to want to install it fully on my new netbook. I followed instructions, downloaded it to a USB stick, and then installed it as per the instructions on the Ubuntu website. All seemed fine until I tried to connect to my wireless network, when it appears there is no wireless driver. I tried plugging in the ethernet cable, but it just disconnects me every time I try to go online.

I can connect to the wireless DSL-router using wicd (wicd-1.7.0-486-2 from /extra), wicd reports that it connects and obtains an IP-address. It then changes the status to connected. Immediately after that (may be a second later) the status changes back to disconnected and I can't reach the network.
Here some specs: Kernel: self-compiled 2.6.37-6-generic, the only option I changed from the standard generic config was to enable PAE, but I also tried it with the standard generic kernel and the huge kernel. Wireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01) Firmware installed with the packages from Slackbuilds.org: network/b43-fwcutter network/b43-firmware. The wireless card is working correctly under Debian, so I think this is not a hardware issue.
