Fedora Networking :: Wireless Disconnects With WPA - 2.6.27.12-170
Jan 27, 2009
After I updated to kernel-2.6.27.9-159.fc10 a couple of weeks ago, my wireless kept dropping the connection every few minutes (using an intel 3945 with the kernel iwl driver), particularly if secured with WPA. Updating to the 2.6.27.12-170.2.5.fc10 kernel currently in updates-testing has solved the problem.

I'm using an Acer Aspire One d250 running Netubuntu 10.04. The wireless connection to my router fails at random intervals and spends most of it's time trying to reconnect. It will occasionally ask me to input the password to the network, which is already entered in the dialog box, and clicking "connect" doesn't seem to make any difference. Also, when it is disconnected from the network, none of the other computers in the house, wired or wireless, are having any problems. If there is any more information I could provide,

I use ubuntu 10.10 and disconnects from wireless at random. after it reconnects the the connection speed is very slow and unstable. It's not my router because it works fine on my sister's netbook (which is also running ubuntu) and it worked fine when I was running windows? I'm not very advanced with linux so you know. I don't have IPv6 enabled. My laptop is an "Advent QRC430" my wireless card is QCOM Q802XKG Wireless Network Card.

I have a hp dv3 2110eg laptop with OpenSuse 11.1 (KDE 3.5.10) and Windows 7 dual boot. My wireless disconnects and connects automatically at random intervals. I do not observe this behavior when operating my laptop under Windows 7. Following some suggestions given in this forum , I uninstalled networkmanager and installed wicd. However, this does not seem to solve the problem. Given below are the relevant information. uname -r

I upgraded to Karmic the other day and my Wireless Internet has been disconnecting every hour or so. I had the same problem on Intrepid but I managed to fix it somehow. After disconnecting, it will reconnect after a few seconds.

After upgrade to Lucid I have experienced intermittent wireless disruptions. The wireless just cuts out and reconnects. And I was hoping to continue or follow up on the same thread however with the released version.I tried replacing network manager with wicd and I tried the other driver options both without success.I'm currently using the Broadcom B43 driver, when I tried the Broadcom STA driver wireless would not work. I use the 64 bit OS, and this problem did not appear prior to the upgrade.

I facing a really annoying problem. I download regularly during the night using Wifi. The problem is that because I'm away, the wireless just disconnects and the pop window shows up asking me to into the password. The password is already saved in the windows so I just have to click 'connect'ut I don't understand why does it disconnect and when it tries to connect it asks for password again!y doesn't it simply 'try' to connect without asking the password when it is already saved.

I recently upgraded from Maverick Meerkat to (classic) Natty Narwhal Ubuntu Linux. I am running on a Toshiba Satellite A665 (Intel i7). I use a wireless internet connection. Under Maverick, I had no issues. Under the update, I am finding that occasionally things stop working: The indicator Applet looks fine, but from a terminal, I find that I am no longer able to ping my own router (less than 10 feet away.) This behavior occurs after working fine for a few hours. I am unsure if anything in particular triggers it (I will report back if I determine a particular cause). I have a few other computers (2 running Windows, and the other Maverick Meerkat) -- and they are unaffected. Turning wireless off and on resolves the issue for me on Natty. Rebooting also works. Here's some hopefully relevant technical details about my system:
Code:
~$ rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

I'm having issue with my wireless connection. I'm not sure if it is the WPA security causing the issue, but I randomly lose connection to the router. The network manager then scans for available wireless routers for a bit before trying to reconnect to my router and asking for my wireless password again.

I'm having a problem with my wireless connection. When it runs, it's perfect, but every once in a while (and increasingly more often) it randomly disconnects and doesn't reconnect when I click reconnect, even if I manually disconnect it. Every time this happens, I have to reboot the system, after which it works perfectly. Then it dies again.
I've checked around the forums, there are some similar threads but they seem to be specific to the wireless card. The reboot method works, but I'd really like to find a way to solve the problem without having to resolve to the Vulcan nerve pinch. I'm a real newbie to Linux and the more complex side of computers in general, and I hardly know what is what, so please excuse me if I seem a bit thick.

Running Ubuntu 11.04 on a Gateway LT3103U netbook. It's running fine except for that fact that when it goes to sleep (timeout or lid closed) or going into suspend or otherwise restarted/shutdown, my router restarts. It's a DLink DIR-655 that has been working fine until I changed this netbook to Ubuntu. After installing Ubuntu on the netbook, it found my SSID being broadcast and I added the connection by supplying the WPA2 password. I have full network access (local and internet).
It's just the router restarts and all my other machines lose connections. The router is using DHCP but supplying IPs based on MAC. Netbook is set to use DHCP.

I'm currently using Fedora 13 x64 and have noticed a strange problem with my wireless.
At random intervals it will disconnect, be it 5 minutes or 3 hours and then it will not re-auth no matter how long I leave it. The wireless is running WPA/WPA2, With TKIP/AES encryption. The router only supports b/g and the Wireless NIC is only b/g.
Not sure what driver/software it is using. I noticed I do have wpa_supplicant installed but there doesnt seems to be much happening in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf apart from the below.
Code:
[daniel@Enterprise ~]$ su -c 'cat /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf'
Password:
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=wheel

I have my laptop dual booted between Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. In Ubuntu I randomly lose connection to the wireless network. It always works fine when I first boot into Ubuntu but after a while my wireless connection will go down. The signal strength meter will go to zero bars and the black popup message will appear that my wireless connection has disconnected. At first, if I just wait a bit, the connection will come back. However, after about 4 or 5 times of doing this it will then ask me for my password, and inputting the password does not reconnect me to the AP. I am finally forced to reboot. Then it works OK for a while again and the cycle repeats.
It works fine in Windows7 all day, every day. I have the Release Candidate of Windows7 so it's going to expire soon. I would really prefer to make Ubuntu my everyday OS on this laptop rather than pay for a Windows7 license but I cannot tolerate a flaky wireless connection.
I had 8.1 on this laptop at one point and I never had any problems with the wireless then, that I can remember. I had no Ubuntu for a while but then I came back with the 9.1 and was loving it until the wireless problem reared it's ugly head.

When I installed Lucid I got temporary wifi connection. It disconnected for no reason. Then it was constantly trying to reconnect, telling me my password was wrong. Which wasn't wrong at all. So I installed Lucid again from scratch and now everything seems to work fine. The only thing I didn't do was install the 'restricted drivers'. This was only one driver for me which had to do with my modem. Wifi works perfectly now. I hope it stays that way .reinstall Lucid and DO NOT install the 'restricted drivers' for your modem

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 because I was facing internet problems with previous Ubuntu 9.04 after I upgraded it with downloaded software. And now, 10.10 connects to wireless, but shows web-page some-times and repeatedly disconnects. Earlier it wasn't reaching Internet at all. Some of the topics here helped a lot. But this intermittent internet seems not going anywhere. Wired Internet connects easily though.
I've tried :-
-disabling ipv6..... first in Firefox, then in Kernel also
-Setting DNS.....System> Preferences> Network Connections
-setting static Ip
The system still gives trouble.
My system is Asus UL20A.
Wireless:-Atheros AR9285

This is the first one of probably many posts as I am new to Fedora having lots of questions. This one is about the openvpn client which is used by me to connect to my company network. Thanks to the Fedora FAQ it was easy for me to set up the client and establish a connection. There is just one problem every time I open a connection I am disconnected from my local Internet. I was using openvpn on my Windows XP PC before and there was no problem keeping two Network connections, the (W)LAN and the vpn tunnel. Does anyone know how to solve this? I am utilizing the latest Fedora 11 release and configured openvpn client via the Network Manager GUI.

I have recently installed Fedora 13 on my laptop, an Acer Aspire One D150. The laptop has an Intel 4965agn wifi card which worked flawlessly under Fedora 12. Now however it keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes, even if I browse the web. On top of this, it also becomes very hot, so hot that you can feel it through the plastic case.

After a new fresh-from-DVD install of Fedora 14 64-bit (over top of Fedora 12 64-bit which went over top of Fedora 10 64-bit before that) my Linksys WUSB600N adapter connects at login to my WiFi N router with WPA2 Personal.
That is great, as previously (fc10/12) I had to use the Ralink drivers per ogetbilo's thread on this forum (that thread kept me on the net for many years now). And at some point this even became a pain because sometimes the system would boot and refuse to connect to the wireless (which would hang trying to connect) and then crash to a dump screen on shutdown (bug reported). The fix was hoped to be found in upgrading to F14 and the newer kernels with working native Ralink chip support.
But I still have an issue... the connection stays up for a few minutes then drops. If I disable/re-enable wireless it (at least sometimes) re-connects. But obviously that is not workable. This is a USB adapter and I am not entirely sure that there is not some USB powersave issue going on, but I do not see anywhere to disable system USB power saving either.

I'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..
Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...
Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).

With Fedora 11, I got NetworkManager, and it never worked right.. Right now, the nm-applet crashes regularly, no message nothing, just disappears from the panel. I wrote a two-liner to run it in an infinite loop. But my wifi also disconnects every 10 minutes. It's like clockwork, it just disconnects. I see things about "error 38" in the logs.
