After having downloaded unrar, I find I can't actually use it to extract rar files. Whenever I use the command unrar e filename.rar, (obviously using the correct filename), I just get told there's no such file or directory.
I recently downloaded a program to find out it was in pieces. What I originally conceived as being a small problem has turned into a major time wasting dilemma.
I've tried many different things to get it to properly extract, viewing threads on these forums even, but to no avail.
The files were named: file.part01.rar file.part02.rar etc.
I though this was the problem so I renamed all 84 files (except the first one), removing the .rar extension. No cigar.
My final attempt of several was using 7zip:
Code: 7z x myArchive.rar -o/home/[username]/Desktop
I was in the correct folder as far as I could tell.
I have included a screenshot of the files in order to stop any confusion about my description.
I am new to the linux forum .......Unrar doesn't install using apt-get install unrar My friend a longtime user of linux told me that it's a non-free software and is no longer supported by debian. I was wondering if this is true .....and would there be other options or instructions on where and how to install this package?
I have a .rar file called Japanese, and every time I enter the command "unrar e Japanese.rar", I get the response "Cannot open Japanese.rar No such file or directory No files to extract".
I've done everything on this site, but I can't get it to extract. What do I have to do to make this work? Do I need to set the directory or something? I've seen other people mention that as a solution for other problems, but have no idea how to do it.
I've downloaded some torrents, and someone CONVENIENTLY made them a multiple file archive instead of a single file.
I've tried unrar -x <filename>-part1.rar, which it says it completes, then I don't see the file. What do I need to do? WinRAR usually decompresses them just fine, but on Linux is where I have the problem.
More importantly, why on Earth would anybody do this?
I've just noticed that unrar is suddenly taking minutes to extract instead of seconds.
I can remember if its recently been updated, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled it and the version is: unrar.x86_64 0:3.7.8-3.fc10
I've found a few Ubuntu posts about it on Google, but in true Ubuntu fashion nobody has any answers!
What's odd is that when I unrar a file from (Nautilus or "unrar x *.rar") it takes say 4mins, then if I do it again it takes 15secs, like as if its caching somewhere.
I had to reinstall everything on my ACER aspire one, and now I can't unrar rar files with xarchiver. I tried installing ARK but that didn't work, and instead of troubleshooting why Ark isn't working I'd really just like to get Xarchiver to work. I uninstalled and reinstalled using yum but that didn't change anything.I also tried installing the source code of xarchiver 5.0 from a tar.gz, but the ./configure needs to be able to find gtk+-2 and for some reason it can't.
I'm looking for a script that can be run regularly with Cron.
Check a folder for Rar files every few minutes, Unrar if present, and delete the left over files once done.
Be able to specify the directory of which folder to watch within the script.
Run an extension white list (.avi, .mkv, .mp4) and blacklist (rar files) of files to be moved.
Specify within the script which folder to move found files to.
I've seen a few online that does some of this or much more than this but I'm looking for something that just does this in a simple and efficient way... (Also for the life of me, I just can't get how to edit this to do what I'm looking for)
When I try to extract different archives, files with the extension *.html never unpacked. Files with other extensions of the same archives successfully decompressed. Why is this happening?
I successfully installed OpenSUSE on a 4gb pen drive using the instructions contained within this portal. However, for the life of me I can't figure out why the persistent feature doesn't work.
I have a box already has openSuse 11 32bits installed. I want to replace it with openSuse 11 64 bits. When I insert the openSuse 11 64 bits CD, I got error message "this is a 32 bit computer. Can not use 64 bit software". so How do I wipe out the old OS (32 bits), and install new OS (64 bits)?
Somehow I cannot get sound on my newly installed opensuse 11.3, KDE 64 bit..I tried the sound panel and it looks allright. I also followed the multimedia guide an installed packman repositiry and vlc, - i might have done it wrong?
Trying to get company VPN installed onto 11.3 ... I had this running under 11.2 ... I've been following other threads and tutorials in trying this ... I unzip the vpn, and patch using the 2.6.31-final.diff patch ... I get:
vpnclient # patch < ./vpnclient-linux-2.6.31-final.diff patching file interceptor.c Hunk #1 succeeded at 192 with fuzz 2 (offset 72 lines). Hunk #2 FAILED at 136.
as an absolute newbie I downloaded my first application. RealPlayer11GOLD.rpmFrom info on this forum, I managed to install the package with the rpm command as root on openSuSE 11.1When done, it said finished. But now I cannot find the player. Where do I go wrong?
I had installed openSuSE 11.0 and then installed XEN using 'Install hypervisor and Tools' which is present in Computer -> YaST -> Virtualization.
After that I rebooted the machine in XEN mode[Dom 0]. There I installed a Virtual machine[Dom U] with OpenSuSE 11.0 Operating system using the option 'Create Virtual machine'which is present in Computer -> YaST -> Virtualization.
VM[Virtual Machine] got installed successfully and started running in TightVNC. I shutdown the VM and restarted it and it started running successfully.
After that I shutdown XEN[Dom 0] and restarted the machine in XEN mode again to run Virtual machine[Dom U]. But this time I got the below error when I selected the 'Run' option in installed VM.
I have just updated my system from openSuse 11.1 to openSuse 11.2, all is working fine. Now I would like to install the Adobe Reader program downloading it from the official website. I can use Evince to see PDF files... Unfortunately Evince shows strange defects over the images contained in the PDF file (strange white vertical lines and other little things).
I want try to use the original Adobe reader to check if those defects will go away so I can print the document (on Windows the pdf file is displayed perfectly). I have gone to this address to download the latest version: Adobe - Adobe Reader : For Unix : Adobe Reader 9.3.1 Linux and Solaris update - multiple languages
When I presse the "Download" button I go to another page. In this page I select the 9.3.1 version and then the "enu" directory (I suppose that "enu" stays for "english", I'm right? ) After that I block myself; as I see there are only i386 and i486 version available, but I have the i586 architecture. This means that the Adobe Reader is not available for my Linux system? Maybe I have got the wrong download address?
I Wonder why nspluginwrapper is installed on a 32 bit openSUSE system by default. It does not cause too many problems but at least the xine-browser-plugin and the acrobat reader plugin seem to work better without it. I thought the only reason for nspluginwrapper was to run 32 bit plugins on a 64 bit system, but then why does a 32 bit version even exist?
I tried out DockBarx on my previous Ubuntu computer and really liked it. I installed openSUSE not too long ago and I just decided it's about time to get it back! However, I'm having some trouble installing it. My initial attempt was to simply download the tarball of dockbarx from GNOME-Look, untar it and run setup.py. Unfortunately, it will not run for me..not as root, standard user, anything. I do have Python-Base installed, and my "cnf python" does return a successful response. My PATH has /python's location in it and everything.I then tried the .rpm but I need to install python-keybinder, pyxdg and dbus, but I cannot find any downloads or repo's with it. I could simply be missing it though. So, basically, I'm asking all of you who have successfully installed it on your openSUSE system to inform me on how you did it.
I just recently configured my cmake and system to finally be able to cmake && make && make install stuff. I did it specifically for the Smooth-Tasks plasmoid. Everything went smoothly on the install, and it appears that everything went the way it should.
Now, my problem is that it does not display in my Widgets window when I click "Add Widgets..." How do I get my self-installed Plasmoid to appear on this list, or at least be useable on my desktop?
I go to systemsettings > appearance > workspace > get more themes. And I install themes, they get downloaded but none shows up when i close the dialog box and go to the place where you select themes.
I have OpenSuse 11.3/64 with OpenOffice and want to use some additional (ttf) fonts. They install fine in KDE (configur desktop / fonts ) and are available in progs like Gimp. But Open Office doesn't recognize the new installed fonts. What am I missing here?
