I cannot make groups in my kaddressbook. The icon and the menu item are both grayed out. This happens the instant I select an address book, either akonadi or default.I read a post sometime ago that made me think this might be related to mysql. But, mysql is running. About the only setting available in the menu is for ldap servers and its blank. Groups are useful. I'm running 11.3 and KDE 4.5.2

I can create groups, but when I send an e-mail to one of these groups it is sent to group_name@localhost, which, obviously, is not what I want. Some versions back this worked perfectly, but now it seems that there is no way.
I use opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.4.1
Did anyone manage to use distributions lists (called "groups") in kaddressbook ? (in Kubuntu 10.04)
I can't imagine an email client without this feature, but here it is:
* in kaddressbook I can create a new group and add email adresses in it. Say I call it "Family"
* now I expect to right-click on it and have a menu giving me the possibility of "send an email to the group"... nope.
* OK, I go to kmail, new message, and on the right of the address slot, I click on "select". Then ah! it seems I can select my "Family" (now it's called a "distribution list"). I click "Add", and now my recipient is "Family"... I'm a bit suspicious, but OK, let's send the message...
of course it doesn't work: I immediately get <Family@my-laptop>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied
* OK, I want to do it again, but now after "select", I am curious and open the "Family" list (by clicking on the "+" on the left). Surprise: most of my contacts in it appear empty (yes, empty lines) !But not all of them...So I can't even manually select them all.
* Conclusion: groups of contacts (or distribution lists) are completely screwed up in kubuntu 10.04.
I am asking for a template, not for an instruction how to do it. What I need is a mapping from [0‥91] (Outlook CSV) to [0‥44] (KAddressBook CSV).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI already know of a work around to fix this problem, but I guess my question is why is this not working as expected? I am using a Windows Server 2008 R2 Active Directory for authentication.
I have run auth-client-config for the ldap profile and pam-auth-update. When running getent passwd, I get a list of both the local users and the users in the active directory (with populated information in the Unix schema extension). When running getent group I get a list of both the local groups and the groups in the active directory (with populated information in the Unix schema extension).
Interestingly enough, though, when I run su DOMAINUSER, after the prompt for the password I get an authentication error. In /var/log/auth.log I can see an entry with pam_ldap: missing "host" in file "/etc/ldap.conf". The SRV records in the DNS servers resolve correctly. I've checked this with nslookup and I have seen the records within my zone file. Obviously if the ldap.conf file is working with getent and the ldap server is resolving from the SRV records, it is working fine.
The interesting part is that the Windows Server 2008 R2 AD machine shows in the event viewer that there was a successful authentication, yet the Ubuntu box says no. When I add the host within the ldap.conf file, everything works...getent and the actual authentication, either initial login or su.

I am currently trying to set up a Samba domain server. In the Samba-HOWTO-Collection I found an
example file.(Point 3.3.3.1) In the explanations of the example below, the author says I need to map UNIX Groups to NT Groups. He writes a shell-script of how one could do it, but when I copy it and then execute it, I get the error:

Bad option: rid=514
The other groups do get mapped, just the Domain Admins, Domain Users and Domain Guests dont. This is the shell from the HOWTO:

So i am at the stage of about to install the basic system and am using a derivation of the package management provided by Matthias S. Benkmann. To this end I am using his useradd and groupadd scripts to update the files:
/etc/passwd
/etc/group
My issue is that when I run the commands(created as part of temporary system when installing coreutils):

(here linux is the name of the user) This only returns the user being in the group named after user but not the additional group of 'install' Also, prior to logging in as user, if I use this command as root:

OS: OpenSuse 11.3 / 32-bit / Gnome. Updates to latest.Issue: while using uTorrent Server Alpha (for Linux) i have encountered a shortcut malfunction. After the program was successfully installed (by that, i mean download and simply modify its settings to be able to execute it as a program, and double click on it & keep it running in a Terminal) and ran for the first time, it came to me that i should make a shortcut to the program, on one of my two "taskbars". So i simply created one and correctly pointed to the application (i left it on my desktop). But after restart, i tried to access it via this shortcut and it indeed started, but returned an error, that the graphical interface (html based) situated and :8080/gui/ was not there, and that it should be downloaded. So i stopped it and went to the desktop folder & ran it in a terminal and VOILA, no problem, everything was good as new.
PS: i was not running the program under sudo and i changed its default login configuration (from a simple "admin" username, to a proper username and password).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI think I've read every post here about the Broadcom and connection.I thought I tried everything.Turns out (read Chapter�35.�Using NetworkManager) using Connection Manager (K Network Manager) you can not use, what I wanted to use, 'all users, use connection' or said another way, the wifi would be activated and connected Before the user 'logs in'. Well, as I said, it turns out that if you are using gnome, this will work with NetMgr, but NOT in KDE. If you want to use 'system connect' then you have to use 'traditional' if in YaST2. Oh well, at least 'i'm' connected.... (i'm the only user, so not a big deal right now, but would like to get it working...)
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason after installing 11.4 and re-entering my contacts, none are visible in the select area of a new e-mail. The only items visible are recent recipients of e-mails. I made sure that I was checking "All" as an option. I had entered new contacts in the "Default Address", and then tried in "Personal Contacts" to see if that would work better. I had no luck either way.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter doing a complete backup, I ran the update overnight. Ubuntu 10.04 was on my computer the next morning. While poking around, I noticed that the Kontact KAddressBook had no entries;Instead, I had display with three columns;Column #1, "Address Books" had the cryptic entry 'std.vcf' Clicking on it did nothing. Apparently, all my addresses were gone. Solution: Finding and Reloading the Addresses My addresses were in the vCard format, located in
/home/MYUSERNAME/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf
After checking to see that my backup file of std.vcf was the same size as the system file, I did the following, modified from instructions provided by Joao G. Peixoto joaogpeixoto Within the Kontact KAddressBook, I deleted the empty std.vcf addressbook; Edit Delete Address Book Then I generated a new address book to hold my addresses;

So here is the deal, I have my wifes computer set up to dual-boot Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. She uses a HP G60-445DX laptop, and something very funky is going on.
1. I first installed Windows 7, and it boots fine multiple times with no problem.
2. Next, I install Ubuntu 9.10. After installation is finished, I select reboot, and choose Windows 7. It boots fine.
3. Then, I reboot into the newly installed Ubuntu for the first time, get to the desktop, and reboot.
4. Now when I select to boot Windows 7, it gets about half-way, and suddenly reboots the computer.
I've troubleshooted this thing for days on end trying to isolate exactly what is causing Windows 7 not to boot. After reinstalling Windows 7 again, it once again boots fine, even after I use the live CD to restore Grub 2. It's only after I boot the fully installed Ubuntu 9.10 that her Windows 7 install starts acting weird. All I can narrow it down to is that after I boot into Ubuntu for the first time (after an install), Windows 7 no longer boots properly.
I have installed XAMPP on my ubuntu machine, I typed nautilus in the command line and from there I tried to change the httpd.conf file from "/opt/lampp/etc" but it does not allow me to change the contents of the file. Error attached with this post.

Newly installed Lucid and several programs to get it just the way I like it. I went to make a backup of the entire system with remastersys for the second time (first time was ok) but everytime it says iso file too big, which it is at 16gb plus. I have been through and double checked that my personnel files, pics, music, movies are all removed and my virtual machine. When checking with "Disk usage analyzer" it says I have 158.8GB free but when I check the home file system itself it says I have 150.1GB free. Note the missing 8.1GB. I believe this is the root of my inability to make a backup.

I guess is b/c the os is updating those files or has them open. View 3 Replies View RelatedI noticed that when using the "daily built images" from Squeeze via Netinst, during the disk partitioner, I am un-able to make the /boot partition bootable.or some reason I can't enable the 'boot' flag on several different ISO attempts and differenthardware vendors. The only thing I can see is that this is an issue with the netinst ISO image from the daily built images. Has anyone seen this or is this a known issue / bug? I don't want to file a bug report if possible but I searched and couldn't find anything on this. I doubt I am the only one who's experienced this so far.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI cant connect to the internet wirelessly or with a RJ45 connection. Last week my son came round and thought it was very call the internet worked fine then. Then he downloaded a programme called wireshark. Since the installation of that programme there has been no internet. Even the internet icon on the top bar has gone Aswell as the network manager section has vanished from the preferences menu. I have uninstalled wireshark thinking it will correct its self but havent had much luck. I am running Ubuntu 10.4 (lucid) Kenel Linux 2.6.32-generic GNOME 2.30.2

I have installed Ubuntu and it's variations many, many times on different computers, and once in my current desktop PC. Right now I am in a situation where I want to install Ubuntu 10.04.01 (or any version, really) but I cannot.
I have tried to install both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, I have tried Ubuntu 10.04.1 and 10.10, I have tried to install with Wubi (currently running Windows 7 64bit), I have tried to burn the images to CD and created an USB installer, nothing works, it's always the same. Installer starts, I put in "Install Ubuntu", and the screen goes blank. Nothing but a white little cursor blinking in upper left corner of screen. And I cannot type in anything.
Previously I had Ubuntu 10.04 installed with Wubi, and it worked. Right now, nothing works. Anything helpful appreciated. I can provide some system info if needed.
