View 1 RepliesI am asking for a template, not for an instruction how to do it. What I need is a mapping from [0‥91] (Outlook CSV) to [0‥44] (KAddressBook CSV).
View 3 Replies View RelatedFor some reason after installing 11.4 and re-entering my contacts, none are visible in the select area of a new e-mail. The only items visible are recent recipients of e-mails. I made sure that I was checking "All" as an option. I had entered new contacts in the "Default Address", and then tried in "Personal Contacts" to see if that would work better. I had no luck either way.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Thunderbird in different computers so I configured it so that the datas are on an external drive. It works fine except that it seems that the contacts are still saved on the different computers and not on the external drive. It is strange since I have all datas for each profile on my external drive and all Mail and folders are there. I use different versions of Thunderbird (3.1 and under). how I could also have my contacts datas on my external drive?

View 1 Replies View RelatedDid anyone manage to use distributions lists (called "groups") in kaddressbook ? (in Kubuntu 10.04)
I can't imagine an email client without this feature, but here it is:
* in kaddressbook I can create a new group and add email adresses in it. Say I call it "Family"
* now I expect to right-click on it and have a menu giving me the possibility of "send an email to the group"... nope.
* OK, I go to kmail, new message, and on the right of the address slot, I click on "select". Then ah! it seems I can select my "Family" (now it's called a "distribution list"). I click "Add", and now my recipient is "Family"... I'm a bit suspicious, but OK, let's send the message...
of course it doesn't work: I immediately get <Family@my-laptop>: Recipient address rejected: Access denied
* OK, I want to do it again, but now after "select", I am curious and open the "Family" list (by clicking on the "+" on the left). Surprise: most of my contacts in it appear empty (yes, empty lines) !But not all of them...So I can't even manually select them all.
* Conclusion: groups of contacts (or distribution lists) are completely screwed up in kubuntu 10.04.
After doing a complete backup, I ran the update overnight. Ubuntu 10.04 was on my computer the next morning. While poking around, I noticed that the Kontact KAddressBook had no entries;Instead, I had display with three columns;Column #1, "Address Books" had the cryptic entry 'std.vcf' Clicking on it did nothing. Apparently, all my addresses were gone. Solution: Finding and Reloading the Addresses My addresses were in the vCard format, located in
/home/MYUSERNAME/.kde/share/apps/kabc/std.vcf
After checking to see that my backup file of std.vcf was the same size as the system file, I did the following, modified from instructions provided by Joao G. Peixoto joaogpeixoto Within the Kontact KAddressBook, I deleted the empty std.vcf addressbook; Edit Delete Address Book Then I generated a new address book to hold my addresses;
File
New
Add Address Book
KDE Address Book (Traditional)
[code]....
The [next] command took me back to the 3 empty columns. In a minute or two, 'Names' (column 2) began to fill up with my old contact listings
how to use kaddressbook groups in kmail?
I can create groups, but when I send an e-mail to one of these groups it is sent to group_name@localhost, which, obviously, is not what I want. Some versions back this worked perfectly, but now it seems that there is no way.
I use opensuse 11.1 with kde 4.4.1
I cannot make groups in my kaddressbook. The icon and the menu item are both grayed out. This happens the instant I select an address book, either akonadi or default.I read a post sometime ago that made me think this might be related to mysql. But, mysql is running. About the only setting available in the menu is for ldap servers and its blank. Groups are useful. I'm running 11.3 and KDE 4.5.2
View 6 Replies View RelatedThanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
I run version 10.04 GNOME. My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
When I click contacts, I still see

Something has gone wrong Sorry about that. This problem has been reported to Ubuntu One engineers and we'll fix it as quickly as possible. This may be a temporary problem, so try again in a few minutes.
It's been like this ever since I first tried to use it (about a year or so now). I'm not sure how to help to get it fixed.
I have installed 11.4, and it seems (seemed) to work OK so far. I installed Thunderbird via the opensuse "1 click install". the installation ran smoothly, but now a click on the Thunderbird icon does not activate any mail client; the only success is that Thunderbird icon jumps joyfully and then disappears.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI, as many here, have friends on different IM accounts (and btw, so great that we have pidgin and empathy and not have to deal with 3 different softwares to talk to them) and of all that I have... which are not so many... one of them sends me spam, not all the time, but it happens and I kind of feel sorry for her so I'd like to see if there's a way for her to retake control of her account or if she can't do anything at all with it.
I have other friends in MSN but I get spam only from her and she's given up on how to fix it cause she doesnt know how to. I did a search (and keep looking for more in the web) and so far it doenst look promising (but is also because I dont know what else to do). The problem is I get messages which I know for sure are spam, cause her english is more limited and the messages are very polished in that regard.
I got this from another discussion elsewhere: "troutbot = These bots get your IM from scraping the Internet screenname and connect you randomly to someone else. While you're talking to the troutbot, they're just an intermediary connecting you to some other guy who also had his IM scraped." So far the times I get spam... the other side never answers, but if my friend is online she can. I thought that on these IM services... if you are logged in nobody else can log in with your username/password...
How do you export contacts from Empathy?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes when using Emesene, a contact who I am talking to will appear offline randomly. I normally assume they have gone offline, but then I will receive another message from them as normal so they obviously are not. Then I can't tell when they actually sign off.
I thought it might be because people are setting their status to appear offline. Which on Windows messenger, if you are talking to that person, they will appear as online only to you.
So either Emesene doesn't do this, or there is some other error that is just making people appear offline randomly.
I have got my contacts in my 'Ubuntu One Address Book' in evolution.
It is my understanding that they should sync to my ubuntu one account on the web.
My files and notes are syncing perfectly but the contacts are not.
I have ensured that the contacts box is ticked on the Ubuntu One menu thingy.
The title says it all really. I run Empathy, have used it for a while with both Google-chat and MSN protocols. I've been using it for a few months now and suddenly my MSN contacts have all disappeared.
People are able to contact me via MSN, and when their message window pops up I am able to respond. It says they are offline however.
I have tried listing all offline contacts but they still do not appear in the list.
I have tried uninstalling (including config files) and reinstalling but this wasn't successful either. When I reinstalled it still had details of my accounts so clearly the cofig files were not removed properly.
I had used gnome do previously and had it linked to my gmail contacts. It had no problem opening in Thunderbird and then typing and sending the mail. It seems the mail-to link is broken down now. I open it and it pops open a mail dialog in Thunderbird. Then the issue is the name I have selected isn't opened. The mail to is always blank in the to box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have had nothing but trouble, and - judging from the extent of your forums - it looks like I'm not the only one.If this system is so great, why do so many people have so much trouble?
1). How do I import my Contacts, especially if Ubuntu's email program says it can't find my old Outlook?
2) How do I import my bookmarks, again, if Ubuntu's version of Firefox says it can't find any other browser?
3) If I go ahead and install this thing, and then decide it is too much hassle, how hard is it going to be to uninstall it?
I don't mean to be contentious here, but I really don't want to get into something that is only going to substitute one frustration for another, either.
