I forwarded my port 22 so i can access my ssh console on my mac or Windows (using ssh secure shell client for Windows by the company SSH). On Windows i can transfer the files no problem. Now on my mac's Finder ( that supports sftp natively ) i can't access the sftp is any configuration i need to make?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a Windows user, I generated a pair of DSA keys from CoreFTP Lite and sent it to a third party that runs an SFTP server. They told me that a valid DSA key needs to have ssh-dsa at the start and the username@systemname at the end. CoreFTP generated neither the ssh-dsa header nor the username@systemname footer. I tried with WinSCP and it didn't generate them either. Is there a difference between how SFTP works between Windows and Linux? If I put a useraccount@systemname at the end of the text will it work? How would the Linux system validate that my system is called "systemname"? If it can't validate, what is the purpose of adding it?

I've been instructed to set up an sftp server this weekend. I was going to just use vsftpd b/c it's awsome, but then someone said it's supposed to use ssh. so here's my question:
Is Vsftpd the same thing as Sftp? is it the same openssh protocol for encryption and file transport? I've set up Vsftpd before and it just uses port 21, and it doesn't seem to ask all the same questions as ssh, so is it the same thing? or should/could I tunnel vsftpd through ssh?

All internet browsing function are ok, but when I try to upload file using sftp to a remote compute - it hangs. This is not a problem of remote computer. Download is working ok. I disabled firewall on wireless router but this did not help.
When I try to connect to my PC with sftp, the connection closes right away. Connect with ssh works flawlessly, and so does fish:// ! I run openSUSE 11.1

Had my chroot jail all set up and working nicely in OpenSUSE 11.1, upgraded to OpenSUSE 11.2 and had to set:
Subsystem sftp internal-sftp
(which was:
Subsystem sftp /usr/lib64/ssh/sftp-server)
and:
ForceCommand internal-sftp

Of which with-pam is mandatory. I used prefix to put the binaries in a place that would not conflict with the standard distribution, this meant I also needed to change /etc/init.d/sshd so that it referenced the newly compiled version of sshd, and copy /etc/ssh/sshd_config to /opt/etc/sshd_config.
This started after my upgrade to 11.3, if I remember correctly. I may have it slightly wrong because I don't drag & drop copy every day, but it's close. Also, it happened to my laptop & desktop both.
I use fish & Krusader to manage some 50-60 servers and it's a dandy app. But now, when I try to copy files to remote servers, I get the following error. I tried it with Konqeror. I tried it with sftp instead of fish. Same results every way.
I've tried searching, but it's not an obvious error message to search for. I'm flummoxed. And sorta frustrated. Linux would be so slick minus these irritating regressions. I had been using WinSCP / Putty, but the Terminal / Krusader I like much better --- except that WinSCP always works.
Here's the screenshot of my error. You can't see it through the blur, but the part that is baffling is that the top line says something like:
this action will overwrite fish://root@server:2222/ with a newer file fish://root@192.168.5.10:2595/.asterisk_history. Notice that the remote server doesn't even HAVE that file on its system.
Selecting Overwriting just freezes Krusader.
First off How do you disable IPV6 access on all connections used on the pc-is there a way to test for ipv6 connectivity?
Secondly how secure is a default opensuse 11.04 machine out of the box? should i be making some changes to the default configuration?
Thirdly what does the default firewall settings do? on my network i use my wpa2 psk aes connection via my local wireless network-in the event that some can hack into my wireless would the opensuse firewall prevent direct access to my pc from a attacker on the same wireless subnet?
Fourthly when does opensuse 11.04 go out of date? in a year from now?
I have three machines with the same configuration. ssh and SFTP enabled on all three and I can see all three from the network. I can also ping all three. Here is what I get with the ssh debug command on the problematic machine:

I am trying to install a 11.3 virtual machine through Xen on a 11.3 installation. I am trying to install from the opensuse DVD. I get to this point, setting up everything (I can only do paravirtualization) Then the DVD spins for a little while and after that I am returned this error message "device 0 vif could not be connected opensuse....."
I tried a bunch of different settings in the previous screen and I always end up with this error I googled around and it seem to be a problem in different distros but I could not spot a solution at all

I'm trying to use the windows fonts on my linux machine. I've found a nice tutorial which suggests to change the dpi to 96x96 (windows default).
It seems that i'm not able to change the dpi. I've tried with sax2 => no luck. Manually editing the xorg.conf file => no luck. My dpi remain always the same. I've logged out even rebooted. Same.

dimensions: 1600x900 pixels (443x249 millimeters)
# xdpyinfo | grep resol
resolution: 92x92 dots per inch
I've changed the dimensions to 423x238 mm. I should get a 96x96 dpi with these but no. After restarting, xdpyinfo shows the same old settings.
I have been unable to create any type of Windows VM in Xen. Every time it tells me that the processor(s) in the machine do not support full virtualization. After some research, I found several articles regarding the vmx setting in /proc/cpuinfo not showing up when the xen kernel is booted versus it showing up in the default kernel. Of course, I am not seeing the vmx extension in /proc/cpuinfo after I boot to the xen kernel. In the other posts where other people are in the same situation, the only resolution is to upgrade to the 2.6.16 xen kernel. I am already past that:

yet I am still unable to create any form of Windows VM. I have even seen that some people are able to create a partially virtualized Windows VM, and they report that the message is only a warning. However, I am unable to get past this message. I am running a Dell Optiplex 760 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, and I have the VT-x setting enabled in the BIOS. Has anyone else seen this situation or have any thoughts on why this is happening?

2. Can i do a clean new install to the spare partition? Thus ending with two working Suse versions? ( Separate /home partitions). This would allow a) reserve of a working system while checking that 11.3 works. Then remove 11.2 later , and how to do that.
I had an OS 11.3 machine running as an Nis server with Nfs, also providing dns, squid, samba shares and running apache
Internet connection provided by a netgear router at 192.168.0.1, server at 192.168.0.2, clients at 192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4, etc. The clients all being configured to use the server for dns the squid running on it for their proxy, logging on with Nis using the exported server's Nfs /home share as /home on the clients
Everything was setup through Yast with some conf file editing being done later for samba and apache and all working brilliantly

I added another network card to the server machine and set it up as a router, where they will be placed once ready the router providing the internet connection doesn't have gigabit ethernet
So I figured if I had gigabit cards in the clients and a gigabit card in the server set up for the internal zone and providing routing, then the clients using it as their router the local stuff would be more responsive, especially as they are using an nfs share for /home
I set the clients up to use the server at 192.168.1.1 for their router and changing their own local ip addresses to suit, i.e. 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc and rebooted
Nis and nfs were no longer working, so I logged on as the local user, ecky, who's home directory isn't in the nfs share but at /ecky, the internet connection worked fine and so did everything else, dns, proxy, etc
I tried changing the nfs share and nis server to the internal card's ip, 192.168.1.1 and that didn't work either
Samba shares work at both 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.1.1, so my problem is that nis logons and nfs mounts don't work from either address
I've tried to give as much info as possible on what I've done without being too confusing ... don't know whether I succeeded
Darned annoying cos it took me a day and a half to get the gigabit card to detect properly in one of the machines...
I want to access the Linux desktop from a Windows machine. I am able to get a terminal window with the TightVNC Windows client, but I only get a terminal window. Does anyone know how to get the entire desktop?
Also, from other discussions, it seems that I am supposed to be able to get a web session going, but I'm not sure how to do that. Does anyone know how to get a web session going through VNC? Do I need to run something other that vncserver?

I have 3 boxes running opensuse-11.4 64 bit - Phenom-I 2.6 GHz, Intel Q9400 quad core 2.66 GHz and Intel SU7300 dual core 1.3 GHz (the last one is a laptop). When I run a KVM virtual machine and load it quite a lot all host OS freeze. Interestingly, the laptop works the longest (hours), while the fastest system with Q9400 freezes in max. 10 minutes. After a hard reboot there is nothing in /var/log/messages This bug is 100% reproducible. The guest OS is either RHEL or openSUSE. Is it a 11.4 bug or I am missing something? Have not tried the same hardware with RHEL-6.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install on a machine that has a CD drive but no DVD (and is currently running 10.3). Following the procedure here I created a filesystem on the server and copied the DVD ISO to that. I boot with the network install CD and in the boot options I put in
install=hd:/dev/sda7/openSUSE-11.2-i586.iso
But then I get a red error diag saying
Could not find the openSUSE respository
Activating manual setup program
I go into the manual setup program, select hard disk, sda7, the iso file appears in the "Enter the source directory." dialog so I click OK. It does the "Loading the installation system" (or something, it's quick) and then errors with "No repository found". I have also tried sharing the iso file from a windows server and using network SMB but that didn't work. Tried mounting the install DVD (that I have used successfully before) on the windows machine, sharing it, and point the manual SMB install at that. Everything gives me "No repository found." I could use the Network CD to do an Internet install, but that seems unnecessarily slow and wasteful of bandwidth when I've already downloaded the DVD iso.
I cleverly built a machine with two drives mirrored, boot partition on the mirror. It crashed some time when I was not present, and was apparently writing to disk at the time, for since, it will not boot. I get error messages to the effect that there is no boot partition. At this point I am not particularly concerned to try to rebuild this array, though I have read a hell of a lot on the boards about trying that (and am daunted - everyone assumes you can boot the machine with the bad array). Instead, I am wondering is it possible to build a simple machine on a third disk, then "look" at the disks in the former (?) array, and/or potentially rebuild it?
