OpenSUSE :: Powersaving Too Agressive \ Editing Energy Profile Settings Doesn't Help Either?
Aug 9, 2010
Powersaving on my desktop is way to agressive, it behaves like a notebook. The monitor switches off after just 4 minutes.Disabling PowerDevill makes no difference. Editing energy profile settings doesn't help either. Is there another way to force these settings?
It appears my profiles are gone, and thus i have got no way in changing settings in the 'Desktop Configuration' (Systems Settings)so, when I go toapp starter --> Configure Desktop --> Power Mgmtthere are NO profiles under 'global settings' or 'power profiles'anyone has got an idea what's cooking here
I've been using the KDE version of Jaunty Jackalope since it came out last spring, installing it on several different machines. Each time, I make a series of changes to the profile settings in konsole to make it look and act the way I like. Recently, I've installed JJ on yet another machine and I find myself reluctant to tackle the tedious job of changing those profile setting, one by one, yet again.
It occurs to me that the settings are probably kept in a file someplace, and that I might be able simply to copy that file from a machine on which I have the settings already in place, and paste it onto the new machine. I've tried making a minor change in the profile, then looking for a file that's time-stamped at that moment, but I haven't found anything in the places I've looked.
I switched to lxde, love the speed, but it has one major glitch: it doesn't save the settings. the most annoying: the setting " enable tapping" of the touchpad isn't saved afer a reboot. I tried the following:
delete ~/config/lxde ~config/lxpanel ~/config/pcmanfmand the other solution i found in the forum:Opensuse 11.3 LXDE Keeps Changing My Wallpaper Back To Default
I'm using opensuse 11.3, added repo lxde, updated everythng. So far, nothing.
after a period of 3 months I had to change my ubuntu account password on my workstation.
Immediately after the change it seemed to work fine, but when I rebooted all the icons on the desktop, my personal data and themes account settings were gone.
I got an error that there was a problem with a file in my home directory. (I think .ICAccount or s.th like that) I don't remember the correct name, because I bypassed it using chmod 755 on my home directory.
No I dont get any error message but the files in my home folder and all settings are still gone.
There is a README.txt in my home folder:
Quote:
THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA.
From the graphical desktop, click on: "Access Your Private Data" or
From the command line, run: ecryptfs-mount-private
I can mount it by using the command but that doesn't fix the settings problem and the data that was previously stored on my Desktop doesn't apper. I also dont want to have an encrypted home directory. I didn't use that before. I'm using the whole disk LVM encryption that I applied using the alternate installation cd.
I have a box that is setup for a Desktop environment. I've full screened terminal, but it still try to sleep the display every few minutes. How do I change this? Or better yet, just boot up in console only mode.
when attempting to open screensaver settings in LXDE, the window pops up briefly for a second and then closes. Anyway I can fix this? I would post a debug log if I knew how to open this app from within terminal
create a profile settings and network drive can be mapped automatically when user login to the (like Domain and active user profile on windows environment) Ubuntu systems?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 for a digital signage PC. I ran it on an Ubuntu 9 machine, worked great and got a new machine to put it on so I did so with 10.04 and so far working great, except after an arbitrary amount of time (seems random, I've seen it go half a day with no problem, then do it twice within 20 minutes)screen acts as though it's going to sleep. The monitor shows No Input and moving the mousetting a key on the keyboard brings it back. I've disabled everything in the power settings, shut off the screensaver, went into the BIOS and changed power savings from S3 to S1 and even tried killing acpid but no luck
I am a new Ubuntu user, and I am attempting to set Windows 7 64 bit as my default OS in the boot loader instead of Ubuntu 10.10. I have entered the command gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst into terminal, and the menu.lst file does open. However, this file appears to be completely blank, which does not seem to make sense and is preventing me from changing the boot order.
I have Debian 8.4.0 with lightdm. I'm trying to load some command lines at session startup, putting these in ~/.profile but the file is not loaded. The same procedure works well if I switch lightdm to gdm3.
Anyway, there is some idea to load some script lines at the session startup? The file .bash_profile neither works. I don't want to use ~/.bashrc because it would load every time I open a terminal. Neither to use init.d because it would load for all users.
i am trying to declare an environmental variable in the /etc/profile' (as per the tutorial i'm following) but when i declare it and do an echo i get nothing. Here's what i've done so far..nside /etc/profile:
# /etc/profile: system-wide .profile file for the Bourne shell (sh(1)) # and Bourne compatible shells (bash(1), ksh(1), ash(1), ...). if [ -d /etc/profile.d ]; then
I've already gotten into the .mozilla folder and found the profiles.ini file. My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.
In windows the path is:
How would I translate this into something ubuntu "follows?" I already have the profile name changed as well.
I have some japanese music files stored on a flash drive that the titles of which are in japanese originally. While in the flash drive, when I go to Properties -> Audio, the title is written in japanese. It does not allow me to edit the file, no matter what permissions I have on it, therefore I can't change the name to english. So, I tried Rhythmbox instead, and transfered the file there. I could change the name, however there is STILL a huge problem.
I have around 300 japanese music files, all of which have to be renamed into english. I did all this for all of them in Rhythmbox, and clicked "quit" when I was done. When I came back to transfer the files to my MP3 player like usual, I opened Rhythmbox, and...
ALL OF THE FILES WERE STILL IN JAPANESE! It didn't save any of the work I did on editing them. But, I calmed down and thought "oh, you can save playlists! I am sure that if I save them on one, it will keep the edits!" I did this, and it saved nothing. It took me 2 hours to finish the renaming, just to find out that it can't save information edits at all.
Since a while, the energy-saver shuts down the screeago,it happens after half an hour, but I didnt set it up in that orders !It makes menervous, short time away from the comp, and soon the screen is dark! And the screensaver will not appear any more, too.I tried to enlarge the times in the energy-manager,created a new profile, switched off the laptopmode-service,nothing helps! And it seems,if there is no possibility to set one of the profiles up,they can only be changed, deleted or newly created. Is there really no place to force it to the required settings?Under the good old KDE3.5,it was no problem,to get it work like I want it to.My 64-bit system runs under openSUSE 11.3 and KDE 4.4.Is here any salvation for my nerves
I have a triboot windows suse 11.3 stable and suse 11.3 factory pc, I would like to share the browsers and email settings between the suse stable and factory, I succeed with thunderbird and firefox moving the /home/.thunderbird and /home/.mozilla in an ext3 shared partition and linking these in the respecive /homes, I found that there isn't a /home/.chromium folder, I found probably /usr/lib64/chromium could be the same as /home/.mozilla for firefox, but I don't know if is secure or can damage my system to move this in a ext3 partition and then link this to the respective /usr/lib64/chromium, /usr/lib64/chromium has root owner, root group, visible and modifiable for root and only visible for group and other.
Is there a way I can save system settings and have yast revert to a config file in case I ever need to reinstall the system again? I hate having to configure the firewall, runlevels, samba shares, samba workgroup, apparmor, and all the other junk after every install. It's not like I install often, but should suse 11.5 or 12 roll out, I'd like it to be a snappy upgrade.
I am using the sudo command to log on locally as another user by the following command:
sudo -u theotheruser -s or sudo -u theotheruser sh
As I see it, this initiates a new shell with the mentioned other user. However, this doesn't load that users profile from his home directory. Is there a way to automatically read the users profile when login in with selected command? I am mostely interested in getting a working prompt when logged in.
After implementing a new protocol on ns2 , I need now to integrate infomation about nodes energy .So I am going to implement a new c++ code to define the model of energy consumption in every node .have you any exemples to help me getting started .
I try to use the same firefox/thunderbird profile in opensuse and in windows, but if i give the windows profile to the suse firefox, it says to me: "profile is already used/ firefox is already running " Is there any workaroud for this? Btw the profile sharing works well with ubuntu. I use opensuse 11.1 kde4 reloaded and the installer mounted my windows partition to /windows/c
I have no sound in normal profile but when I log in to the root account I DO have sound using say Banshee, kaffeine. In other words it is not a hardware malfunction or not detected. I am sure it has to do with some rights (permissions) for the peripherals that the user or profile may not have.
I am trying to use AutoYast on openSUSE 11.3 x86. I have a Hard Disk install from the openSUSE ISO in /dev/sda1 partition and this partition also has the autoinst.xml.The installer is not able to find my autoinst.xml and it complains "/dev/sda1 not mounted or mount failed".The Kernel command line parameter that I gave is "autoyast=device://sda1/boot/src/autoinst.xml" which is what works in SLES 11.0.
This is the first time I am using forum. I am using SUSE 11.0 I dont know which settings I made but for one of the user I am not able to see the blue bar which has minimize, maximize, close bar.
I tried to replace .bashrc other related files by creating new user but the problem still exists.
Kindly help me to know what are the user profile related files and what might be the cause for this.
