I don't seem to have very much in the context menu on the places bar in Dolphin or Konqueror. How do I add "Open In New Tab"? Also, I can make Konqueror always show the tab bar, but I can't find the equivalent setting in Dolphin though.
View 4 RepliesI recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
when I click on any folder under places. for example if I click on my home folder or video folder. Or any folder under places. I get a document viewer message in Red. Saying "Unable to open document" "cant open directory" how I can fix this?? im on 11.04

Something very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.

I can connect to my network shares fine using "Connect to a Server" & bookmark with the file browser, however when I use OpenOffice writer Spreadsheet to open/save files the shares disappear in the"Open/Places". View 4 Replies View RelatedI renamed /home to /localhome and I'm getting an error message when I run 'Places->Videos'. The error is: 'Could not open location 'file:///home/<username>/Videos' Error stating file '/home/<username>/Videos: No such file or directory.
I'm using /localhome because /home is used for automounting home directories at my work. I prefer to use a local account rather than the NIS/NFS account.
What do I modify to have this reflect my new home directory location?
I just updated to 10.10 and now when I go to places and try to open my documents, etc, nothing happens. I have files there and can access them with open office. Is this fixable or is it the way 10.10 works?

I can open Computer, partitions and devices, just not the first 7 folders which i think are bookmarks.

Ok, I eventually solved it. Appears I had inadvertently selected another program as default folder openenr. Just opening any folder with right click - open with - folder openenr reassigned nautilus and opens Places folders ok.
I was trying to view a dvd on ubuntu (which works on windows) so I downloaded a few progams from the synapatic manager and software center - nothing made the dvd work but now when I go to "places" and "home folder" movie player opens and has a error message window that is at least 10 deep that says "could not open location; you might not have permission to open file." I can't get to home folder at all!Did I totally ruin Ubuntu? Is this fixable? I rebooted and that didn't help

For eg :- In YaST , everything is square boxes as if the character set weren't present . Moreover , every theme has same font at every place i.e. Sans Serif . After the upgrade, the graphics have become worse . I'm using KDE environment . Hardware is : Core i5/4GB .

I work on OpenSuse 11.3 (64bit), on the latest kde.I work on an extended 1680x1050 screen on the left of my laptop screen (1280x800). I set this with Kxrandr and it worked great,a while... Now, it shows a black band on the right side of my laptop screen. I can live with that. But the mouse does not recalculate for this difference, so that I need to click 1 inch to the right of where I want to click.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having some issues with my screen resolution. I am not sure if it is a monitor or graphics card issue. I believe I have the ATI x300 card. I am gunning a dell dimension E510. My monitor is a MAG Innovision. The screen resolution keeps changing. I had this same issue with 11.3. Also, the screen looks fuzzy in certain places, especially white areas and bars at the tops and bottoms of pages. By fuzzy, I mean it will be a color that doesn't belong there and it will kind of look like static, in either a line, or a blob, or just the whole box. I recently had to disable all desktop effects because they would make the screen unusable.

We have a digital signage appliance built on SUSE 11.3 with a LAMP server that uses the flashplayer application to play a .swf file from localhost. It is a AOpen GP7A mini pc that has the nVidia drivers loaded. We have lots of customers that have been running the exact same system for over 6 months (we image the drive for each sale).
For some reason, my last customer is seeing the following problem shown below, and this linux configuration is way over my head. Everything else is working (local LAMP server is working, communicating with our production servers to get information works, etc). I have verified that it is screen 0 that is running (at least it shows with Ctrl-Alt-F7). I thought that it may have occurred because of updating the software with zypper up. I had the customer rebuild from the image being careful not to upgrade the software. The result was the same. The pc is a newer version compared to my bench pc, but there are multiple other customers running that same version just fine. So I am not sure if it is
The command is issued by a php script that is run in a root cron job. As I said, it works great on all other customer pc's including my bench system. I also tried to execute the command on a ssh terminal as the root user with the same result. I also upgraded my bench pc and it still worked properly.
The command being executed is sudo env DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHORITY=/home/svision/.Xauthority flashplayer http://localhost/flash/sign.swf &
the result (when run in terminal) is: No protocol specified (flashplayer:15077): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0
I install the latest wine on my OpenSuse 11 and was able to install e-sword Bible software. When I clicked on e-sword it tried to open but never did.

When I press OK, the system completes the start up and everything looks normal. But when I try to connect to internet, I get the following message:
KNetworkManager cannot start because the installation is misconfigured. System DBUS policy does not allow it to provide user settings; contact your system administrator or distribution. KNetworkManager will not start automatically in future. If I reboot the system, I logg in successfully. So far the problem has appeared approximately upon every second time I boot up. Rebooting the system seems to take care of it.

After upgrade from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 it worked fine for a week or so.
