Oct 19, 2010A simple and small problem but annoying all the same...I don't like having the downloads/pictures etc bookmarks in the places menu so I remove them but every time I restart my machine they come back.

Dec 1, 2010on my dell xps M1530 dualcore duo 2.2GHz 4GB ram 500GB harddisk suse 11.3 KDE 4.4 and KDE4.6beta1, when I copy big or a big number of files (20 or 30 files 500MB each) dolphin slow wildly down, especially when I copy from a smb:// to my disk, dolphin start immediately to copy but when I click on a tab or a folder (a one that I didn't opened before) dolphin shows it to me after a couple of minutes, is it possible to solve??

May 1, 2011I opened a folder with brasero a while ago, to make a DVD. For some reason this stuck. When I click on any of the bookmarks in places, Brasero pops up. It also happens if I click "open containing folder" in Ktorrent, so it must be a global setting, but I couldn't figure out where to change this back to Nautilus

Fedora :: Places Menu In Gnome Opens Dolphin (KDE) Instead Of Nautilus
Feb 26, 2010I'm having a strange problem in my gnome installation. I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.

I re-installed 10.10 over 10.04 by formatting the root partition but keeping the home partition the same, to save me a lot of work. Jan 13, 2010Whenever I try to use a bookmark in the Main Menu (under "Places"), I get an error message. For example, if I want to open my Documents folder, the message reads:

Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/digikam" (No such file or directory)" (I had digikam installed on my computer, then I decided to remove it.)When I open a Nautilus file browser, and choose "Information" from the side pane, my home directory is listed with these three options (buttons) below:
1. Open with digikam
2. Open with Gwenview
3. Open with Open Folder
Somehow, the default choice, "Open with Open Folder" has been replaced with "Open with digikam", and I cannot access the bookmarks anymore. I think I need to make "Open with Open Folder" the default option when I click on a bookmark, but I don't know how to do it. I tried without success to use alacarte to make the changes.

Dec 21, 2010i'm used to copy dvdvideo from k3b and it always worked.But I got a dvd that was readable from dolphin (AUDIO and VIDEO folders) but when I tried to copy the dvd from k3b , it could not.I then copied the audio and video file and created an iso and burned it.My problem is that mplayer could play the original dvd but not my copy of the dvd either as the iso or on the dvd itself.

Aug 16, 2011I don't know where to begin figuring this out. On a total fresh install of kubuntu 11.04, everything went fine. When I do any copying in dolphin it crashes. Konqueror does the same thing. I installed samba and I can copy files when using samba from a remote computer, locally it crashes dolphin and konqueror. I turned off desktop searching, still crashes. I tried copying from konquorer to dolphin and vice versa, crashes everytime. The system notification acts like it started the copy and keeps whirring until I close it. What can I try?

General :: Why Dolphin Makes Local Copy When Play A Remote .avi File
Oct 15, 2010i am using dolphin 1.5 in kde 4.5.2. whenever i try to access movie file from remote samba server. dolphin copies the movie file to somewhere in local hard disk. so, i have to wait until a big file transferring complete. i know that it happens when i open .avi using mplayer. if i open the same remote file with kmplayer, it will player immediately instead of making local copy first. however, kmplayer is very slow and sounds and video stream breaking up, (i am sorry i do not know right english expression for this) i suppose this is not related to mplayer configuration. this seems to be dolphin problem. can i make dolphin to stop copying samba share to local disk and play instantly? there is a video in videos. it is comparing how dolphin and nautilus act differently when i play remote samba share movies.

May 4, 2011I am just trying out a new installation of 11.4 (KDE) but have an irritating problem when trying to set up bookmarks using the KRDC Bookmark Editor. Whenever I try to add or amend a bookmark in a folder, I start typing in the name or location box and the text field clears itself and the root of the bookmark folder tree becomes selected, making it impossible to add bookmarks. As I need to add around 200 bookmarks, this is really frustrating.

1. Server with ldap for authentication and autofs maps
2. Client machines have home directories on this server (nfs3) these machines also have some 'shared' directories on the same server (nfs4)
Now if I use a terminal I can always create files in the shared directories (subject to the relevant permissions) - I can also always save files in OO and the like. The problem is that Dophin sometimes has the create greyed out and sometimes it doesn't. So now I am at a loss as to why. This is 11.2 with kde 4.4.3 btw

Aug 29, 2010Anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening. I am able to start Dolphin normally either via keyboard shortcut or application launcher menu.
However if I close or exit out of the application I am then unable to open it again. Instead I get a bouncy icon and and spinning circle in the task bar and then nothing ......
Running a ps aux | grep from the CLI gives me the following processes that must be manually killed before I can reopen Dolphin.

any suggestions? I have tried disabling nepomuk and strigi thinking that might have been an issue but I still get the same problem. I also tried removing dolphinrc and dolphin from ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps respectively... still no bueno.

Sep 15, 2010Dolphin crashes when previewing PNG files - with other image files (PS, PDF, JPG, DVI) when you roll the mouse over the file you get a preview pic in the top right corner - when I roll it over a PNG file, it halts for a second then crashes.
