I'd like to have a port open for some streaming radio stations. However, I don't know if they are UDP or TCP or what "direction" to have them set up (inbound or outbound). I also don't know if they should be set up for "host" or "dynamic". The stations I'm interested in are the 181.fm channels mostly (shoutcast stations). We have a Westell A90 type modem/router from Verizon.
View 7 RepliesI have a couple of openSUSE 11.2 machines and each is directly connected to the Internet (they are not behind a router, firewall, etc). I want them to be able to communicate without any firewall restrictions, but keep the firewall rules for all other IP addresses. Is this possible? the software package I'm trying to use randomly chooses a port to use in the range of 32768-61000 and I don't feel comfortable having a port range that wide open on both machines.

I have a question about /etc/services file. If I open ports in firewall, do I need to alter /etc/services file in order for certain apps to work?

Above example shows if 465 tcp isn't altered, Postfix MTA fails to listen on 465 tcp port. What if there's a bigger span 3000:7000 TCP/UDP, is there a need to alter each line by hand?

I have an account to log into Coasttocoastam Site and listen to the streaming audio. On windows it plays with either Windows Media Player OR Real Player. I've always just used Windows media player. Now that I'm installed Ubuntu 10.04 when I go the site. Of course I click it to copy what it's doing and XINE is displaying and I see it's buffering and then starts to play.

When I click on them, whether trying to use their "player" or (in case of jazz24) clicking on "mp3 stream" ... the result is simply crashing the browser, whether firefox or chrome. If I click the mp3 stream, banshee opens with an hourglass-type icon but doesn't do anything.
My local music files play fine on Banshee and I CAN listen to streaming baseball on mlb.com (which is a Flash-based player).
I have Lucid 64 bit. For some reason, I feel like these radio stations used to work, though I can't pinpoint when they stopped working. Can it be that the entire world of internet radio is closed to me on Linux? For some reason i doubt it, there must be something I'm doing wrong here?
I have Ubuntu on both my machines but my older machine is a Duron with 128 mb of ram. Because of that, I have Xubuntu 6.06 on it. It runs very well. So well, I wondered if I could use it to stream internet radio or even videos. Problem is, I can't find flash for it.

I open the Network Device Control to activate it but there is no network ports in Network Device Control. It is empty.It looks like the system recognize the card and loaded correct driver.
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to open firewall ports without using yast. The reason I'm asking is because I'm working on a .sh script for the installation of a couple of programs. Some ports need to be open for the programs to work, I find it really annoying to go to yast and type the ports manually every time. I've looked at /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 but can't seem to find anything, I also know that after the changes I will have to stop start the firewall by running:
SuSEfirewall2 stop
SuSEfirewall2 start
On my computer i have 1 network card and 1 USB modem for Mobile Internet. I can access internet using both devices, but when i am using the network card i am unable to listen to radio stations because the radio streaming is not allowed at the work place. So, i am triyng to find a solution and the solution seems to be to use the bonding module on linux. But i have a few question:
1) i don't know if it is possible to use this module for 2 such different devices
2) i don't know if, even enabling bonding, i will be able to "select" the right path in order to reach the radio streaming , or if the right path is selected automatically. When i connect to the radio station using the network card, it opens the connection, but it closes it imediately and i am not sure that the kernel is clever enough to use the other connection in this case.
I'm having problems with streaming divx videos in Firefox 3.6 on openSUSE 11.2. Every time I try to load a divx video Firefox ends up freezing, ultimately leading to dialog box giving me the option to terminate Firefox. No matter what plugin I try to use it's the same problem. I've tried mplayerplug-in, which shows a gray background with the Mplayer logo where the video should be but it keeps buffering, once I press play it freezes. I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering. I tired removing Firefox and all the plugins and tried installing them again to no avail.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Suse 10.3 router with 4 network cards. 1 is to connect to the big network and thereby also the internet, 2 are for 'client' subnets and I want to use the last one as a DMZ. In this DMZ will be a web server which has to be accessible from the other 2 subnets and from the big network. I could do it with a few simple clicks in Yast firewall, but I have some issues with this firewall and there for I want to use it as minimal as possible, using Iptables.
So now I'm struggling a bit with Iptables. Basicly what I'm looking for is how to block all ports but 80 in this last subnet with iptables.
I'm using opensuse 11.3 32bit with LXDE. I have configured an apache tomcat server listening on port 8080. Yast was used to open udp 8080 and tcp 8080 in the firewall by manual entry under the advanced button of 'allowed services' menu.Another system was used to access the tomcat server via a firefox webbrowser. The attempt was unsuccessful. The url used was [URL]. firefox webbrowser keeps showing'connecting ...' until timeout. I'm assuming that inspite of the specified port openings in the firewall, it is somehow ignored. If I were to disable the firewall, then I can access the tomcat server with the firefox webbrowser.

the second thing is, when i open a range of ports like that, it would put my system at risk if some bad guys somehow identifies this range, is there is anything that solves that matter(i.e. makes the firewall monitor the packet, if its an mpd accept if not drop)
I'm trying to get a "network device" (read Internet Radio) to play the BBC stations. Apparently they changed their format late last year, and the radio (using Frontier Silicon Wi-Fi Radio Portal - Member Login) can no longer play the streams ("Network error" message). I thought I would try manually setting something up, but it is not easy trying to find what the actual streams are, when everything is playing in the iPlayer.
Is there a Suse/Linux app that can identify streams coming in, when being played in iPlayer..
I mistakenly delete my default panel. How to add the network notifier? Tried to look for the widget but nothing? i need to choose my network connections. And when i look at the Network manager my wireless if black ? It means it didn't detected my wireless?
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter reboot the server will only allow 15 telnet sessions. I have checked in /dev but all the pseudo ports ttyp0 thru ttypf and ttyq0 thru ttyqf are there. The telnet daemon is running fine, but I am now running myself into a corner.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am wondering if any in the Ubuntu community owns a Carmen Car Radio player by Livio Radio. The program to save internet radio to the device is written in Java, however I am not able to run it either using WINE or using Open JDK.
The Carmen Player does work well with Banshee, it is the internet radio that is not working.
Just did a check on "shields up" and it says that ten of my ports are open. I get the same result with or without both shorewall and firestarter. I suspect it may have something to do with the mysql server packages added automatically during installation. Am I right. If so, what can be done about it? If not, has anyone any idea how to keep my ports closed?

Only reason I can think of as to why I can't connect to it is because my ports aren't open. I also recall SELinux complaining about something awhile ago, I can't seem to bring that up any more for some reason.

My problem is that it doesn't find any radio channels and the input channel is completely wrong. I don't have any sound on gnomeradio and can't find the config files to change the input channel. The only input option available to me is dig1 - can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have already read the Howto for this tv card and changed the device to radio0 in the setup. I have setup tvtime perfectly with sound channel as well as with a 5.1 surround configuration. I am missing my favourite radio channel. and I want to get rid of my windows installations once and for all! Update: I did a system update and some things have changed: the radio tower graphic on gnomeradio is now green (I assume it is getting a signal) but no sound yet.
