OpenSUSE Network :: Explode In Couple Of Months From All Backed Up Addresses?

Jul 21, 2010

The default installation of 11.3 has ipv6 enabled. When accessing a site using any browser, there was a considerable delay before the page would appear.I disabled ipv6 and things are normal. Is my computer going to explode in a couple of months from all the backed up addresses? Seriously, Is there something wrong with my setup? Why would ip6 be enabled by default if it slows things way down? There are just so many things I don't know.

OpenSUSE Network :: Ifconfig With 2 Addresses On JeOS?

Sep 13, 2011

I have created my own distribution with susestudio.com , based on jeOS template and it works well But I have some problems with network configuration. I make a default configuration with susestudio ( configuration -> General -> network ) and I put for example 172.16.0.185 address. I also put a script which configures IP address with different informations coming from for example a serial port to make my own IP address. This script make the new address and call the ifconfig system program. For example, the script calls "ifconfig eth0 172.16.0.182". And now, I can ping the two addresses, 172.16.0.185 and 172.16.0.182. Is this normal ? I thought the new command "ifconfig eth0 172.16.0.182" would overwrite the old value ( 172.16.0.185 ). It works as this on other distribs ( like ubuntu ) but not on opensuse.

I know that I can have 2 addresses but using the following syntax : "ifconfig eth0:1 A.B.C.D" (if kernel supports aliases ) , and I don't know if it is normally possible to have 2 address from the same subnet. How can I overwrite the default config , and not to have the first address available ?

OpenSUSE :: Retrieving Backed Up Album Art For Amarok?

Sep 20, 2010

I recently deleted my .kde4 folder and lost all the album art and lyrics I had saved in Amarok. I have a back up but openSUSE doesn't recognized the file type and won't copy the files to the new albumcovers folder in .amarok. The file name is a mixture of numbers and letters with no file extension.

I downloaded a few album covers in Amarok and openSUSE recognizes these as jpeg files, even though there's no jpg file extension in the file name. If I right click on of the files from my backup and choose to open it with Amarok, then the album art appears, and it's also added to the albumcovers folder in .amarok, and recognized as a jpeg file!

Anyone know why openSUSE doesn't recognize the files from my backup? Or how I can import all of the album art and lyrics from my back up all at the same time?

Ubuntu :: 9.10 Unresponsive To Network Requests Every Couple Days?

Jan 7, 2010

I upgraded to Mythbuntu 9.10 from 8.10 and things went fairly well. No major problems during the upgrade. The system is just a mythbackend server. The only things that access it are for myth and for the smb mounts for mythtv. Every couple days, the system stops responding to network traffic. No myth connection, no smb, no pings even. All I have to do is wiggle the mouse on the system and everything comes back up instantly. I noticed that after it comes back up, the time is off by hours.

OpenSUSE Network :: Port Redirection - Multiple IP Addresses - Or Run On Port 80

Apr 7, 2011

In SuSE firewall0. I do have a openSuse 11.4 and multiple IP addresses on eth0 interface

I run (trying to/have to) multiple TOMCAT servers.

I am trying to have each tomcat instance listen to on separate IP address for example:

What i am trying to do is to redirect

a) tomcat 1 -

a) tomcat 2 -

And so on.

I know that it has to be possible.

I do have just eth0/

Is is it possible. Do I have to create "vittual interfaces"? eth0:1, .......... and do redirection ?

"Server" has got just single interface - just 1 ethernet calbe goes to that server. I am planning to have 10-15 tomcat's on that server (I have to unfortunatley) and each has to run on port 80

Is it possible to "grant" permissions to normal users to run app on port 80 - that would solve me lots of problems if impossible to redirect.

I tried to setcap 'cap_net_bind_service=+ep' /path/to/tomcat ...... but no luck

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Disconnects Every Couple Of Seconds?

Jun 7, 2010

Basically upon logging network manager will connect to my network, and most of the time it will only last 20 seconds or so before it disconnects and tries to reconnects, this tends to go on for quite a while. Logging off and logging on over and over worked once, for this post I opened pages between the 15 seconds that i was connected and after 20 minutes it has remained connected (every time it stays connected for longer than 5 minutes it will never disconnect again) I followed the HOWTO thread so forgive me if most of this information is useless

Networking :: Get A List Of IP Addresses Currently On The Network?

Dec 13, 2008

I am using DHCP on my home network. There could be as many as 5 computers logged in at any given time. Their IP addresses change depending on the sequence they log in.I want to be able to connect to them from any of them (some wired, some wireless) and share files by issuing a mount command for the appropriate shared drive. My question is how to get the IP of each computer when I only know the names of the computers. Pinging the computer name succeeds, but it does not give the IP.In other words I am looking for a Linux command that will come back with a list of IP's with their corresponding computer names so I can issue the right mount command. I would like to issue this command from a Linux terminal, but would also be happy to issue it from a Windows XP station.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Static IP Addresses Using Network Manager?

May 2, 2010

I have four PC's in a home network setup, no server just peer to peer using ssh. I have tended to use wicd to set static IP addresses because Network Manager didn't always perform as I thought it should. Now that I have installed 10.04 I cannot see how to set static addresses using Network Manager so I installed wicd, and disabled Network Manager. After setting the address with wicd it shows that the computer is connected to the internet however I cannot get internet access, though I can network with my other computers. I've uninstalled and reinstalled a few times just to check that I haven't been careless but the results are still the same.

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Sure Two Network Cards Each Have The Correct IP Addresses?

Nov 2, 2010

I've got two NICs connected to two different routers, and on different subnets of course. Each is set for static IP. But somehow I must have mixed up the connections at some point, so the NICs don't always have the IP addresses I expect. I think there may also be a mixup with different ways of setting the network addresses. When I click the Network Icon on the Desktop, I see that each NIC has both addresses as options. The /etc/network/interfaces file has some information about eth0, but all commented out, so there must be another place the addresses get set. And I just discovered that eth0 and eth1 aren't physical but virtual. I guess eth0 is the first one that is set.

Programming :: Faking IP Addresses To Test Servers On Internal Network

Jun 9, 2009

I'm in the process of setting up a script in perl to make 1,000's of curl calls to my companies application on our test server. Our software does all sorts of tracking of data based on IP addresses using geoIP, so i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to fake these addresses to the server?I know a big issue with the IP faking is the return path but i dont really need this. I also cant do it on the hardware level since the script is going to be picking lots of different IP's at random.Anyone have any idea if this is possible and if so, are there any known libraries i can use for this? I prefer perl but any Linux compatiblie scripting language is fine.

Ubuntu :: Make Sure Everything Backed Up Correctly?

Mar 12, 2010

I finally bought a second hard drive to back up all my files since I'm planning on wiping my hard drive completely clean and reinstalling Windows and Ubuntu once Lucid comes out. I'm just wondering, how common is it for files to become corrupt when transferring from one hard drive to another? I ask this because I usually have trouble when transferring (usually large files) onto my flash drive. I know that actual hard drives are different but I just want to make sure. Also, is there a way I can confirm that everything transferred correctly? Most of my files are music so it would be a pain to check every single one to see if it works.

Ubuntu :: How To Get Backed Up Music Back

Oct 11, 2010

On my Ubuntu One Personal Cloud, I did not realize that "rm -f"-ing music files on my computer itself would actually remove the files online as well!I was able to recover 10 of the songs from my iPod, but two of them are still unrecoverable. Is there any way to get them back without having to re-purchase them? I could easily purchase them myself (have a debit card, a checking account, and a job), but I would hate for my mother to have to purchase them again. Not knowing that deleting and reinstalling them (considering some of them got corrupted on my computer) would also delete them online is not enough to warrant having to lose the songs permanently.

General :: Osx - Keep Folders Synced And Backed Up Between Two Macs Using A NAS (rsync)

Sep 16, 2011

I've got two primary computers, one Mac Pro and one MacBook Pro for when I'm on the go. I've also got a Linux sever which also acts as NAS. Currently I backup the entire computers to an external drive with Time Machine which is rather useless and doesn't sync anything. What I really want to do is to keep my important files synced between both computers and my NAS (which is running RAID 5), that way I'm not backing up easily replaceable systemfiles and I've got all my important files in 3 places where two of them are running raid so at least 5 drives would have to crash at the same time before actual data loss occur.

Folders I want to keep synced is basically my photo, documents, development, mamp and work folders and then I want to keep the user library folder backed up but not synced. I'm thinking that I'd have to use rsync but don't know how. Before suggesting Dropbox and similar suggestions I don't want to use them because of several reasons some of them being security (Dropbox obviously proved this), Speed (sometimes I'll sync gigabytes of data and that will be significantly faster locally and probably even through VPN as I have a Gigabit pipe), Space (space on my NAS is cheap and only practically limited by my needs), reliability (even if my internet were to go down I still need to be able to keep my files synced incase I'd need to go somewhere on the fly), price (I already have all the hardware and for the amount of gigabytes and bandwidth I'd need I doubt that there's any free or cheap service). Those are my main reason for wanting to keep it locally.
