So far I am making progress but need to install adobe air which is required by BBC iplayer.If I try to access the site rich Internet applications | Adobe AIR from Firefox I get a very rapid "unable to connect" message.I suspect that it is a firewall problem but I cannot find it and dont know how to configure it. Looking at all the Adobe flak on the web I suspect there are things I need to know.

I download openSUSE 11.4 X86-64 but don't get access to web and i use (None DHCP)

It is because i use windows 7 that (Porting web) between routes? (Other computer).
I use windows (Main system) with the same settings and i get Internet.
So it can be compatibilty issue? Or need linux also need to change other things?
I have tried this both with 2 computer without Internet access.
I have before Mandriva 2010 Free and Kubuntu 10.10 that work with that settings.
But I want KDE 4.6 so i upgraded to opensuse.
I am running a big ftp server on Proftpd, i need to limit the 1 same file download per IP so that customers download files should not download same file at a time. Is there any tool or method of doing it

I used to get a decent speed in BitTorrent (using KTorrent 2.2.1) there, since I had earlier used Windows and the speed wasn't as good, even in Windows 7. Recently, I installed openSUSE 11.2 and found that I wasn't getting the good speeds in KTorrent. The overall performance was a fraction of what I used to get in the older Linux installation.
I decided to verify whether my suspicions were justified by again reinstalling openSUSE 10.3. When I did this, I was again able to get the great performance I used to get always with openSUSE 10.3 running KTorrent 2.2.1 I don't know what causes this, but I know that this sad thing really has happened. A newer version is actually not worth it! I hope my voice reaches the openSUSE developers and such bad incidences don't occur anymore.
I just got OpenSUSE 11.4 to work on my Gateway NV79. However, I can't get the built-in software updater to download anything. When I click on the updater it starts and begins and appears to be working, but it doesn't do anything. I check the system monitor and it says the updater is sleeping. I can't get the updater to continue.
I'm using a wireless connection. On 64-bit OpenSUSE 11.4 Gnome.
Installing on 10.10 64-bit works fine following the instructions on url. The BBC Desktop functions well once I reenabled KWallet.
My problem is that when I refresh the repositories the BBC Desktop is reported as broken, and the reason seems to be that AdobeAir does not show as installed in Synaptic. It does not matter if I install AdobeAir using .deb or .bin, it still is not reported as installed. Any ideas about how to make AdobeAir show as installed?
This gets better and better. First I find out the branded version of Firefox can't do a right click "save page as" (although it can with CTRL-S), now I discover it can't download TweetDeck from that program's Web site. Click on the button to download TweetDeck, it says "Installing TweetDeck" but nothing happens.
I'm going to dropkick the branded Firefox to the curb and install the regular Mozilla version. It's more up to date anyway. I ran the Mozilla version for some time on 11.0 until I installed 11.3 the other day, so I'll live without "integration" that doesn't work worth a ****.
i am currently using monkey webserver on my linux machine for my website. I just recently found out that you can also stream music if you direct the web address to a folder inside the directory. The problem is when i try to click on a .avi all it wants to do is download the video instead of playing it in the browser or playing it in windows media player. What can I do to make an .avi to stream from my linux machine ( note this is for private use only so i can stream movies on my lunch break or when I am at a friends house this is not to share my stuff to the general public)

The downloads window reports the correct connection speed and gives an estimated time to complete, but it stays frozen. Small downloads, torrents and surfing are not affected. I can do everything else normally even when the download is frozen. I've checked with my ISP and everything with my equipment checks out.

I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit (I am an experienced Linux user here), installed a few extras like docky, zeitgeist, added my Ubuntu one account (I don't synchronise much at all, about 100kb max), my twitter account using Gwibber, but nothing much else. I also mount a few smbfs shares in my fstab file at bootup. About the only other program that uses the net that I can think of is running would be rabbitvcs, but I can't imagine that will keep downloading if I am not doing anything.I noticed that when opening system monitor, it is continuously downloading 8.6kb/sec, even if I am doing absolutely nothing. It gets to the point that after an hour or so of use, 100mb or more has downloaded, but what for??
I tried a Googling a few commands to figure out what is eating up network download bandwidth, such as "netstat -p" and "lsof | grep tcp", to try to figure out what is downloading so much at a constant rate, but I can't seem to find the process.I have tried disabling stuff one after the other:
I disconnected my Ubuntu one account
I removed my Twitter account from gwibber
I terminated zeitgeist-daemon
I terminated all desktop-couch related processes
I disconnected all my smbfs drives
But it is still downloading 8.6kb/sec, steadily. This is wasting a lot of bandwidth during the day, and I am not sure what is causing it.
p.s. it is only doing downloading, never uploading.
I am trying to download a 22gb file over a slow vpn connection. The file is not hosted so what I did was just "connect to remote server" via Ubuntu, navigate to the directory where the file is and copy and paste it into my file system.Unfortunately I was not able to download the file because the connection conked out. I was wondering if there was some sort of download manager that would enable me to copy the file I want and if the connection goes out again just resume.

I choose "Install or upgrade an existing system". It is a fresh system not an upgrade. The installation proceeds - but it starts to download everything from the network, not from the CDs. How do I prevent this and force it to load from the CDs?

I have been connecting to it via ssh and have created a network folder on Dolphin for easy GUI access ( using ssh protocol). However I cannot seem to figure out how to download stuff directly to the network drives. In firefox, it does not allow me to browse to the Dlink when I try to specify the download path.

I am looking for a way to monitor my upload and download for my whole network not just my computer. I am using a laptop that is connected wirelessly to my router, i am able to monitor the upload and download for my laptop but i would like to view the statistics for for the whole network without being connected to the router.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had Xubuntu 9.10 installed on my computer and everything worked fine, i could download and surf the net pretty fast, but all of a sudden i couldn't do this anymore. The adapter was still connected to the network but when i opened firefox it worked for 5 seconds and then it would not load any pages, and even synaptic couldn't download any packages, even though it was still connected to the network. So i tried to reinstall network manager but it didn't work, then something happened and i couldn't access my Xubuntu anymore so I decided to delete the partition and install Xubuntu 10.04. I still have the same problem. What should i do? I am sure it is not a problem with the adapter because it works on the Windows partition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a dual-boot Compaq CQ60-420US laptop. It can connect wirelessly in Vista without a problem. I have not yet figured out how to connect it wirelessly in Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid), but that's not the problem here. The problem here is on the wired side. Whether I boot in Vista or Ubuntu, I cannot get it to go online. Ubuntu says that the Auto eth2 connection is established; I am able to disconnect and reconnect it normally; but I can't download updates and Firefox can't connect to CNN.com. Likewise, in Vista, diagnostics find no problem; everything seems to be fine; but no connection.
I thought the problem might be the laptop's ethernet port, so I bought a Trendnet TU2-ET100 USB-to-Ethernet adapter. It comes highly recommended; it seems to have installed successfully in Vista; it appears properly in Vista's Network Connections; its lights are blinking appropriately; and Ubuntu tells me that my Auto eth2 connection is established when I connect through that adapter. And yet still no connection to CNN.com and no downloads of updates in either OS.
I wondered if some other circuitry might be at issue, so I sent the laptop back to HP. They claim to have replaced the mobo. The symptoms remain unchanged before and after. I went through an extensive tech support call with HP. The last thing their technician could advise was to power cycle the laptop and router. The ethernet connection itself is good. I can unplug the cable from the laptop's ethernet port or the Trendnet unit, plug it into the desktop computer on which I am typing this note, and I'm connected with no problem.
I thought, well, maybe I have to have the laptop's wireless button on, even when I want to connect via wire, but that hasn't made a difference. I tried installing Windows drivers from the Trendnet website instead of from the CD; no joy. I suspect you will be as stumped as I am. I have gone through a lot of other people's comments. At this point, I am just interested in general possibilities. What, in theory, could be causing this?
