OpenSUSE Network :: 11.3 Branded Firefox Cannot Download Tweetdeck

Dec 18, 2010

This gets better and better. First I find out the branded version of Firefox can't do a right click "save page as" (although it can with CTRL-S), now I discover it can't download TweetDeck from that program's Web site. Click on the button to download TweetDeck, it says "Installing TweetDeck" but nothing happens.

I'm going to dropkick the branded Firefox to the curb and install the regular Mozilla version. It's more up to date anyway. I ran the Mozilla version for some time on 11.0 until I installed 11.3 the other day, so I'll live without "integration" that doesn't work worth a ****.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 Security Update Will Break Adobe AIR / Tweetdeck

Apr 4, 2011

The libxml2 update specified by CVE-2010-4494 causes a notification that it will break Adobe AIR and TweetDeck on my machine. How can I blacklist this update so it won't keep showing up in the Updater applet? The applet says I should go into Yast and manually apply the update. When I do that and tell it not to apply the update, Yast exits and the Updater applet just tells me the update is still pending. I want to get rid of the update at least temporarily until Adobe fixes the dependency (assuming they ever do).

This is a major problem for me as I clearly don't intend to uninstall TweetDeck and AIR just for some security patch. Why didn't openSUSE test this patch for AIR compatibility?

Ubuntu Networking :: Bizarre Wired Network - Download Updates And Firefox

Jun 3, 2010

I have a dual-boot Compaq CQ60-420US laptop. It can connect wirelessly in Vista without a problem. I have not yet figured out how to connect it wirelessly in Ubuntu (10.04, Lucid), but that's not the problem here. The problem here is on the wired side. Whether I boot in Vista or Ubuntu, I cannot get it to go online. Ubuntu says that the Auto eth2 connection is established; I am able to disconnect and reconnect it normally; but I can't download updates and Firefox can't connect to CNN.com. Likewise, in Vista, diagnostics find no problem; everything seems to be fine; but no connection.

I thought the problem might be the laptop's ethernet port, so I bought a Trendnet TU2-ET100 USB-to-Ethernet adapter. It comes highly recommended; it seems to have installed successfully in Vista; it appears properly in Vista's Network Connections; its lights are blinking appropriately; and Ubuntu tells me that my Auto eth2 connection is established when I connect through that adapter. And yet still no connection to CNN.com and no downloads of updates in either OS.

I wondered if some other circuitry might be at issue, so I sent the laptop back to HP. They claim to have replaced the mobo. The symptoms remain unchanged before and after. I went through an extensive tech support call with HP. The last thing their technician could advise was to power cycle the laptop and router. The ethernet connection itself is good. I can unplug the cable from the laptop's ethernet port or the Trendnet unit, plug it into the desktop computer on which I am typing this note, and I'm connected with no problem.

I thought, well, maybe I have to have the laptop's wireless button on, even when I want to connect via wire, but that hasn't made a difference. I tried installing Windows drivers from the Trendnet website instead of from the CD; no joy. I suspect you will be as stumped as I am. I have gone through a lot of other people's comments. At this point, I am just interested in general possibilities. What, in theory, could be causing this?

On opensuse11.2 id do not have any plugin to handle streaming like quicktime, windows media etc.

If I take the url directly into vlc:

It streams fine.

I've tried adding variation this to mimetypes.rdf:

But it always start downloading.

I can alter the NC:alwaysAsk parameter so I see it is being used.

All I want is a one click streamer, maybe I must use the mplayer plugin?. I just find it strange I cant just pipe the data direcly to vlc.

And i don't get Internet or can upgrade opensuse?

It is because i use windows 7 that (Porting web) between routes? (Other computer).

I use windows (Main system) with the same settings and i get Internet.
So it can be compatibilty issue? Or need linux also need to change other things?

I have tried this both with 2 computer without Internet access.

I have before Mandriva 2010 Free and Kubuntu 10.10 that work with that settings.
But I want KDE 4.6 so i upgraded to opensuse.

OpenSUSE Network :: Bad Download Speed In 11.2 When Compared To 10.3

Mar 31, 2010

I was a user of openSUSE 10.3. I used to get a decent speed in BitTorrent (using KTorrent 2.2.1) there, since I had earlier used Windows and the speed wasn't as good, even in Windows 7. Recently, I installed openSUSE 11.2 and found that I wasn't getting the good speeds in KTorrent. The overall performance was a fraction of what I used to get in the older Linux installation.

I decided to verify whether my suspicions were justified by again reinstalling openSUSE 10.3. When I did this, I was again able to get the great performance I used to get always with openSUSE 10.3 running KTorrent 2.2.1 I don't know what causes this, but I know that this sad thing really has happened. A newer version is actually not worth it! I hope my voice reaches the openSUSE developers and such bad incidences don't occur anymore.

Ubuntu :: How To TweetDeck On 10.04 64-bit

Jul 5, 2010

Installing TweetDeck is not that complicated, but if you have a 64-bit install of Lucid Lynx, you'll face a little hurdle in the form of Adobe Air.You see, Adobe Air only has a 32-bit version and you can't just install the .deb file found on the website and wait for everything to work fine. All the information to install Adobe Air and TweetDeck on a 64-bit machine is freely available on the net. I didn't find all the information in one place so that's the reason for this howto. It's my first howto, so I'm looking forward to your feedback so I can make it as perfect as possible.

Most of this information is taken from OMG! Ubuntu's guide on installing Adobe Air for Ubuntu 64-bit. In fact, there are just two steps that are different.Installing TweetDeckGo to TweetDeck's desktop download page here and click on the Install TweetDeck button. Now just follow the on screen prompts and you should be done. When the TweetDeck download asks you to save or open the file, you could choose to save the file especially if you have a slow internet connection. That way if something isn't working right, you can save yourself some time by just double-clicking the .air file to install TweetDeck next time.

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox Buggy During Request?

Apr 19, 2010

I am experiencing real buggyness in firefox 3.6.3. Sometimes when I click on any button e.g. this form (submit new thread), I get no response whatsoever. It lacks that responsive feel. Might I mention that it happened some of the time. Its probably not because of the ISP because I didn't have any problem before when I was using Vista. Maybe it was because I meddled with things like this and tweaking some stuff in the about:config. I'm out of ideas.

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox Can't Find The Server

Mar 1, 2011

I've gotten this in the past with other PCs, but have been able to fix it by deleting my connection in Network Manager and recreating it. I'm using DHCP. This is OpenSUSE 11.3 on a HP Mini-110 Netbook. Here's the weird part, before anyone starts sending me to resolv.conf or asking for "lspci" stuff. When I'm in a terminal on this netbook, I can enter "host google.com" and it works. I can enter, "host download.opensuse.org" and it works fine. I get an IP address. If I manually enter the IP address in Firefox, I go to the site. But if I enter "www.google.com" in Firefox, it very quickly responds with, "Firefox can't find the server at google.com.""Browse Offline" isn't checked. (Think about it: if it was, I couldn't enter the IP address and go to a site, anyway.) This is a brand new install of OS 11.3, Firefox 3.6.6. But one other interesting thing: the software updater reported that common "curl" error, saying that IT couldn't resolve the addresses, either.

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox - No Or Extremely Limited Internet Access

Nov 15, 2009

I've been running Suse 11.2 KDE on a 64-bit Dell Studio 1535 since last week's release, and have had no trouble using Firefox. At some point today, however, it stopped accessing webpages -- or, when managing to grab a page, it would do so without full html rendering. 95% of the time I get an error splash, while the other 5% I get some sort of truncated page that looks nothing like it should. Konquer and Opera work fine, as does KMail.

I tried deleting the profile.int file (no luck), then uninstalled/re-installed (no luck), then uninstalled and deleted every Mozilla/Firefox file I could find in order for a fresh install -- but this has not worked after several attempts. I still cannot get Internet access. How to completely wipe-out Firefox in order to allow for a totally new installation?

I tried the vlc browser plugin which doesn't seem to even recognize anything and I tried gecko-mplayer, which didn't even show the logo and buffering.
