View 3 RepliesJust installed Open Suse 11.3 on my dual-boot PC ( and Ubuntu 10.10). Installation process of both OS goes well and smooth. But, unfortunately when I tried to play movies on both default applications (Banshee and Totem) in Open Suse Gnome 11.3, I've got the message to search for XVID MPEG-4 decoder. And till now, I still unable to search for it, because there's still no sound or a little sound on both players.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just did a fresh install of openSUSE 11.3 32bit GNOME on my notebook and everything runs fine...yet
But there is an issue with the sound playback on mp4's and quicktime (apple trailers) that I was not able to fix.
I added the Packman 11.3 repo via Yast -> Software Repositories -> Add... -> Community Repositories
Then I used zypper to get the related gstreamer-plugins ffmpeg faad vlc w32codec-all libmp4v2...
So far the media playback seem good, except the issue of "no sound with gstreamer related media players on quicktime and mp4"...
I set all available/related/installed packages to "Packman" (Yast -> Software Management), did zypper refresh + zypper up but I am simply not able to get sound from gstreamer...It works fine in VLC though!
Some google and forum research showed that it's an issue that has occurred over the recent years but I could not found a proper working solution.
If I run totem from the terminal I get the following output (plus a windows asking for permission to search for the required codec 'MPEG-4 AAC Decoder'...but it is not able to find one!):
Code:
# totem --debug --play TV-20100717-2030-1301.h264.mp4
(totem:6888): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveYourself(SmSaveLocal, !Shutdown, SmInteractStyleNone, !Fast) in state idle

(totem:6888): Totem-DEBUG: totem_playlist_add_one_mrl (): TV-20100717-2030-1301.h264.mp4 (null) (null)

The last Message is interesting "All missing plugins are blacklisted..." hmmm I did not blacklist any plugins...where can you see these blacklist? Is that the point, the plugin is there but blacklisted?
ubuntu 9.10 64bit

no sound on playing .flv files, the volume control greyout. however vlc can play them without sound problem. videos also works without problem on sound.
I'm on Kubuntu 9.10, using Totem to play .wmv files, and certain of them cause the player to search for an audio codec (wmap?) that is never found. The video played without audio after that. So I followed advice to remove ~/.gstreamer-0.10, and reboot. A new .gstreamer-0.10 directory appeared, but now, Totem will not even play the video. It recognizes the audio codec however. The video codec shows up as "Windows Media..." but resolution is 0 x 0, and nothing ever appears in the window. I tried uninstalling and re-installing w32codecs and non-free-codecs, and removing the registry files under ~/gstreamer-0.10 and using gst-inspect to rebuild the database,
but nothing helps.
how I fixed my sound problems, that happened only for "windows media 9" videos, after struggling for days changing the players etc. (using Ubuntu lucid 10.04 up to date)First search for "Ubuntu install w32codecs" (or w64codecs depending on your system bus width) and... install them as root or 'sudo'
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install w32codecs (or w64codecs)
After updating totem to the very latest version (May 12, 3 days ago) the problem happened to be likely from the source: gstreamer. So I tried to install the latest version of gstreamer, and it worked (the default one packaged in Ubuntu is dated 2008...).
Code:
try
{
install latest developer version
}
[code].....
I'm trying to use a webtv subscribtion on ubuntu kermic, however it seems that that vlc dosnt support wmap yet, so i'm not getting any sounds on it. Does anyone have a clue on how to get this fixed, or if its even possible to get it fixed? I've tried searching guides for it without anyluck. And when i'm trying to set it to use gmplayer or totem it dosn't work either, mplayer and totem dosnt get either picture or sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try watching HD or avi files with totem the sound and video skips then equalizes on its own, when I try in vlc same thing but I play with the sound until video and sound sync but there is slowness in video.mplayer won't start. I installed the gmplayer front end and I just get that but no video or sound, video won't play.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 11.4 in a kiosk environment and only want VLC as my video plug-in. Since 11.4 FireFox crashes whenever it tries to using the application/x-VLC player type. I've tried disabling Totem, selecting VLC as the application/x-VLC type but nothing works. I'd just like to uninstall the Totem plugins completely but don't know how... or find a way to make VLC work in 11.4 with Firefox 4. I installed FF 4.0.1 but no change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSM player works yes, but how do i get the thumbnail previews. I did a fresh install of opensuse, i installed the updates they Yast told me to. I followed the guide precisely this time, using the command line method and encountered some problems. 4 files, asked to be broken or use obsolete at the point where i have to do the switch to packman repository. I chose use obsolete cuz i didn't want to break anything. When i tried to set an mkv to open in SMplayer the optionw asn't there, only banshee and totem. I opened Yast and it told me to install opensuse codec installer and another file can't remember) which i did. The option to open files in SMplayer, Xine etc came up then.
I'd like to get the thumbnails and I'd like to see Totem work as well. I know i don't need to, but considering that i downloaded the neccesary codecs, i expect it to work :/ or am i wrong with that assumption On a totally unrelated note, is there a way to increase the resolution of the bootloader? i'd like to be 1920x1200 to full my screen
restricted formats and i can play my videos with SMplayer, Xine, VLC etc but not Totem. Totem in 11.3 uses Gstreamer, and i believe i have all gstreamer plugins installed, good, bad, ugly, base etc. Also thumbnails won't show. Reason i want to use Totem? cuz it's integrated well with Gnome
THere's also this issue where everything i try to play wants to be played with banshee, how do i stop that? i tried going into Preferred applications and put it on custom, but i can't differentiate music and video, there's just a multimedia option.
I would like to have music autplayed with Banshee, and Video autoplayed with SMplayer without having to go through the right click, play with option :/
Full screen flash is aproblem in 11.3 64 bit just as it ALWAYS is in most distros i tried *sigh* there's stuttering, and i can't scroll through the video ideally.
For the sake of saving spack i have a non multimedia related question. How do i handle nzbs? in windows i use sabnzb which is cross platform, but their is only a Fedora RPM meaning i'll have to compile it for opensuse which i have NO Idea how to do. Alternative NZB handlers i can't find in the regular repositories or webpin.
Totem and Banshee don't seem to want to play .avi files, Kaffeine, SMplayer work perfectly though. I followed the Multimedia guide, and switched system packages to Packman.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just playing with Fedora 13 and found that when I try to watch any AVI file it searches all required Codecs from RPM Fusion repository and install it. I was just wondering if this can be done on the openSUSE because what I know about Fedora is, it doesn't customize the products and uses as it is. If someone know how to enable such Autodetecting in Totem.

Thought I would post this up here, because I've been searching for a solution, and not found one online:Problem description When playing both .mp4 and .rm files, the sound played fine, but the display remained black.
Solution Open the Configuration Editor (run gconf-editor in the terminal). Navigate to system > gstreamer > 0.10 > default, double-click on videosink and change the setting from autovideosink to ximagesink
I have suse 11.4 installed and I wish to replace the on-board sound chip with an add-on sound card. The following are available at my local shop but they cannot advise whether any will work on Linux Suse 11.4.
Anyone know which of these cards will work on Suse 11.4?
Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Asus Xonar DS
I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).

Also I am totally confused by the mixer, it has so many knobs that I am totally lost!

I encountered this on a 10.3 system but there might be similar problem with the 11 series. Having gone through the business of obtaining config info on this card via pnpdump and subsequently using Yast to configure and install it, I encountered a situation whereby the card was fully functional as far as the "Test Sound" option of Yast was concerned. However, after a reboot, it was not loaded and no sound was possible. Debugging the "alsasound" script, I discovered that the directory /proc/asound was not in place at that time and, therefore, sound was not started.
The solution was to add the module name (snd_sbawe) to /etc/sysconfig/kernel to the parameter "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT". Seems like Yast did not see a reason to do this itself.
I recently installed the x64 rpm of OSS on my Opensuse 11.2 installation (alsa does not have drivers for my lynx card). Sound works beautifully in KDE (login sounds, apps produce sound, etc), EXCEPT for firefox. I can get no sound at all from firefox. I am baffled at why only firefox does not play audio.
System:
OpenSuse 11.2 (it is a pretty fresh install)
OpenSoundSystem 4.2
KDE 4.4 (updated from factory repos)
I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a USB dongle to watch tv (Asus U3100 mini) that supports DVB-T. I live in portugal and DVB-T here uses MPEG4 h246 codec. Until now the only app I can have image and sound is VLC. However with VLC I can't schedule recordings and other features that totem + gnome-dvb-daemon has (or mythtv, also no sound with it). I have all related gstreamer plugins, ffmpeg, x264 libs and I've tried to install everything related with mpeg and aac. i don't know what I'm missing here, Video with totem is also a little jerky compared to VLC and xine.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have this one AVI file legally downloaded from Veoh, which, however, I cannot playback. If I try to play it back under Totem 2.26.5, (GStreamer 0.10.25), I can see the video, I get no obvious error messages, but I get no sound no matter what I set the volume to: other files I get sound. Under Properties, I see for the Audio codec: Dolby Digital (AC-3). I am running Fedora 11 with all the updates.

I would like to control that Totem using my laptop (connected to the same router over wifi). How would I go about doing that? I connected to my desktop using SSH and tried to send signals to Totem, but nothing worked. I tried using VNC, and that was ineffective as well.
