Ubuntu :: Top Bar Transparency Not Working In 10.04 / Resolve This?
May 13, 2010
I recently installed Mac4lin on my 10.04 machine and the left part of the title bar isn't showing transparency, even after a restart. Here's what it looks like:
I'd like to conserve as many resources as possible, with that being said, I'm switching from konsole to urxvt. After compiling and configuring my ~/.Xdefaults file as such.
I recently installed lucid Lynx in my laptop, everything works great except my WUSB54GC (v3) usb wireless adapter, the green light in the usb stick stays off and the OS don't recognize the USB either (i have been using it in WIN7 so i know its not broken)
reading previous post i tried the following:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Added a line
blacklist rt2800usb
after restart it was recognized but only worked for a little while (with download speeds about 30kbps and disconnecting every 30 min or so ) today it wasn't working at all
I have also tried installing the driver provided by linksys using the "windows wireless drivers" obtained by ubuntu software center, no luck there
This morning I tried to login to Paltalk Express (http://express.paltalk.com), but when I was about to write my password suddenly the screen turned black, and couldn't do anything else. I tried erasing the private data on my browser, restarting the browser, reloading, but didn't work.
I tried removing and installing flash, but still the same.
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 over windows 7. i have made a new active wireless connection (home wifi) and it was successful and is now connected to the home wifi but when i start up firefox to surf the net it says cannot display page.
In gnome there is 'Shared Folders' gui under 'Systems' which helps with sharing folders however my one is not working. I wanted to find out why it does not work. I guess my question is, is there any way of running the 'Shared Folders' gui in debug mode?
The microphone of my laptop doesn't work, I'm on a HP Pavilion dv7 and neither the build-in or a microphone plugged in works.
I tried many things (like this: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/78574) to get it work, but none has worked. But I'm quite sure it worked in some earlier ubuntu version. I'm running kubuntu so it's not a problem in pulseaudio. Can anyone please help me with this, because I really hate it I have to restart in windows every time for the mic. code...
I just installed the new version of ubuntu 10.10 and I discovered that my wireless card atheros ar5001 is not working, i tried to modprobe ath5k and wont work either.
All the past versions of ubuntu had no problems. bug?
I just installed Debian only to be confronted with a problem. My wireless internet won't work. If I click the internet thing, under "Wireless Connections" it says "device not managed", btw my internet works and it did when I had Ubuntu, so nothing wrong in that department.
New user to Linux. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to a mini-laptop, but the built-in wireless card/chip is not working. It worked under the previous OS, XP. There is a switch on the case frame that enables it, but the active light did not turn on during installation. I installed a second time and manually flicked the switch every one second to see if it needed human intervention, but to no avail.
My next step was to try to update Ubuntu to see if it would help, so I inserted a Belkin USB wireless, but the connection was intermittent at best. I believe the device is faulty. A wired connection is impossible as I am sharing with my neighbor. What should I do to help Ubuntu the internal wireless device?
Just recently installed Opensuse 11.2 in a KDE environment. The problem I am facing is that when I connect it to my network either via wired or wirless neither getting internet or access to the network although the network manager shows the connection as active I am using a Dlink Di-524 Wireless Router at home The Wirless router for the computer is Broadcom BCM 4312 Was able to install the drivers for this from the packman repository
Also when I connect my laptop directly to the internet connection via wired it is working fine. However if i connect it to my wireless router either over wifi or thru wired it just shows connected but i can neither access internet or other computers on the network. Have checked the wireless router other computers (windows and ubuntu are being able to access the internet via it) Results of my ifconfig-a command when i am connected over my wirless connection code...
I have a toshiba m305d satelite laptop i installed ubuntu karmic 9.10 and evrything seems to be working fine including wireless and ethernet which was not working previously .. but now with alsa my mic was not working and hence i uninstalled alsa and installes oss4 as was directed by other forums .. however with alsa my sound was working in skype but now nothing seems to work .. i am getting error as "problem with audio playback" i am using skype 2.0 as 2.1 was said to be not compatible with oss4 also the sounds in my pdgin im client is not working ..
here is my component information code...
i have tried checking mic using ossrecord but dint get ne output.. i also tried sound recorder which also dint work with both alsa and oss4
now the thing is with oss4 even the speakers are not working for some applications like pdgin and skype which was working with alsa
When i connect to my laptop a bluetooth usb stick, the bluetooth could not be turned on. the bluetooth dameon is on, and when i press the turn on button, nothing happens. in windows the stick works fine.
How would I go about making my top Panel transparent? I know how to do the basic variation, but things like the Clock, Notification Area, and Gnome menu aren't.How would I make my panel transparent, almost like Mac OS X's?
I like having my terminal transparent, but real transparency makes the text unreadable if it overlaps with other stuff. I usually have compiz turned off so that I can use fake transparency. Is there some way to do this with compiz on, so I can have the wobbly windows?
By default in Lucid, Gnome Terminal is transparent.I was on my new Lucid install[1], in Terminal, typing away on the far side of some sshes, and reading some code, when I noticed how awkward it was to read because the background was showing through. "Fine", I thought, "I know where that setting is, although it's a strange default".But Terminal's "Edit Profiles->Edit->Background" revealed it was set to "Solid color". In fact, setting it to "Transparent background", and cranking the Shade up to Maximum was one way of removing the transparency.
A little hunting around revealed that "System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects" could be set to None instead of Normal, and that would fix the problem. So, your choices for a functional terminal are to disable all Compiz eyecandy, or to turn on transparency in order to turn off transparency.Does this strike anybody else as wrong? Is there another control I've missed?
I've been having some trouble getting transparency to work properly on the panels. I've attached a screenshot in which I've got a fully transparent background image applied to the panel, yet the main menu area, status area, and clock are not affected by the background.
I've searched google quit a bit, and all I find are topics saying things like using alt-scroll to make it transparent, but I want all of the icons to remain opaque. Also, people say to use a solid color and adjust the transparency in the properties menu, I've tried all of this, these are obvious.
I couldn't find a section for visual customization. Is it possible to make it so that windows not being used have a certain opacity, and windows being used have another? Also, how can you change the opacity of menus? I used to be able to do this, but it seems I've forgotten.
I've been looking around for a while now for the answer to a pretty simple question. I'm normally a gnome user but I'm setting up an old computer with xubuntu for a friend, and I can't figure out how to get transparency to work for guake. In gnome I just go to appearance > visual effects, don't see anything like that in xfce.I downloaded compizconfig-settings-manager (which I assume downloaded the rest of compiz) and did "compiz --replace" but that didn't work. What would I need to do to get basic opengl effects?
If you install transset then you can set the transparency of your windows and this is very handy when you have lots going on and you can see through your current window that something underneath it has updated...
However transset doesn't seem to work lately? Does it still work for you? Does anyone know if this is this something that happened with a recent update ?
All wonder if someone can point me in the right direction, I have configured my system (ubuntu 10.10) to use Emerald themes and to use Compiz as my window manager. All of my compiz settings are working bar one which is Transparent menus, i.e. click on the Gnome / applications menu and it should be transparent.I have enabled opacity and set "Tooltip | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu | Normal |" and set opacity to 80, but regardless how much I shift the opacity setting it still isn't giving ma a transparent menu? I have attached a screenie showing the compiz opacity settings screen.
I'm running 9.10 and I've installed rainlendar. It runs like a champ. The problem is I can't move the transparency bar in the options panel. I had this problem with Xubuntu when I was using it and all I had to do was enable compositing for it to work. I have no idea how to do that under gnome and I didn't see any option like that in compiz when I was using the manager.
I would like to use a transparent terminal window but meanwhile I want to keep a solid background while it is full screened. Is there a way to manage this?
