My microphone is not working with skype. I don't if its the problem with the skype settings or sound settings of my Ubuntu10.04. It works fine with yahoo voice chat. And in alsamixer, I can't edit the headphone settings, why is it so?

I was able to get it to work in the Sound Recorder Application and in the System Testing function, but when I do the Skype Test Call, or call someone with Skype, while I can hear the other person perfectly well, my microphone does not appear to work at all, so it is a strictly one way conversation.
I've made sure with the ALSA Mixer that everything is turned on, and all my sound settings are fine, but microphone won't work in Skype.

I have been an OpenSuse 11.2 user since the past 8 months. Recently I had a issue with the operating system and therefore had to re-install the OS again. However, since the fresh install, I have not been able to capture any sound from my laptop's microphone. This is weird because it used to work fine with OpenSuse 11.2 before I had to re-install the same OS again. Additionally I can assure that there are no issues with the hardware since it works fine with Windows 7. I have tried almost everything, but in vain.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI go to System>Preferences>Sound>Input. The setting, that I had previously placed at 50 %, is now at 10 %. I try to drag it with the mouse but it refuses to move. I have to hang up the communication and then take it back to 50 %. After I call again, we can talk OK. What can I do to correct this trouble? I've dumped Pulseaudio, made sure volume is up in Alsa, rebooted, but Skype still lists Pulseaudio as what it's using! How do I get its tiny mind to use something else? I've got Karmic installed on a MacBook, and I'm trying to get Skype up and running. I've already patched the iSight firmware, so the the webcam itself works fine, but I have no microphone support. If I go to Sound Recorder, the microphone picks up my voice fine, but not Skype.

I found similar posts in the forum but no one helped me out. i have a webcam Logitech quick cam pro 9000 and i tried to use it with skype 2.1 beta 2 i installed this morning. Well i can see the video but the microphone (build in the webcam ) does not work at all and it worked fine with windows. This is the lsusb command in the terminal :

So i think the webcam is connected well.
My audio and video used to work great in skype. Two days ago connected my laptop and TV, in order to use the TV as a second monitor, to watch a football match (I only have IPTV). Only thing I had to do was to go to System -> Preferences -> Sound and switch (in the hardware tab) my Internal Audio Hardware from Analog Stereo Duplex to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output + Analog Stereo Input.
So after the match I switched it back to Analog Stereo Duplex and proceeded to skype with my girlfriend. Problem was, the mic stopped working. It works just fine in 'Input' tab of my sound preferences, as well as in sound recorder. She, in skype, heard nothing but static. Test call doesn't work either. Now I've done all the usual stuff, Skype isn't allowed to automatically adjust mixer levels and my mic is already boosted. I've reinstalled skype and everything. I'm running out of ideas.
Ive been having issues with skype, stalling, aborting or whatever, pictures is messed up and microphone cuts up, if i end the call and try to call back it does nothing. Keep in mind that I dont know much about Linux. I usually use a USB webcam with a built-in mic that works fine when I select it in audacity and skype, but I have a soundcard too and I just wanted to check out another microphone I've got.
I plugged it in and played around with alsamixer and managed to get it so that I can hear it through the speakers, but I can't use it in audacity and skype.
There are 3 options (apart from the USB mic) in audacity, and all of them are dead silent. In skype there are even more options for the mic. Same problem.
Audacity has recording device choices of ALSA HDA Intel ALC882 Analog hw:0,0, hw:0,1 and hw:0,2
How can I get the microphone to appear in that list - or is it already one of those options but somehow not configured right? I can't figure out the Alsa config stuff despite reading several introductions to it. Probably too late at night for my brain.
Plus the last symptom - I broke the sound coming from a java app while fiddling with this setup. It used to give alerts and alarms quite frequently, but since yesterday it's been silent, with errors in the log like
"Error: Sound line is not available.javax.sound.sampled.LineUnavailableException: line with format PCM_UNSIGNED 11025.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame, not supported. "

Sound recording from build-in mic was fine in skype and cheese after i installed UNR in my Acer Aspire One 110L in early December last year.
But somehow, i just realized that my sound recording was not functioning when i use skype this morning.
(i don't know since when this problem occur as i never use skype and cheese in past few weeks and i did update a few time from synaptic and install ubuntu-boot kernel)
just now i remove ubuntu-boot and reinstall the 2.6.31-17-generic kernel and run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure pulseaudio
but skype and cheese still does not record from build in microphone but only record from external microphone.
One weird thing is Sound recorder do record from both the build-in mic and external mic.
i tried "parec -r test.wav" and "parec -p test.wav" and it also record from both mic.
Anyone know how to configure my netbook so that the internal mic work on skype?

After that I can choose a device in skype, but the mixer does not work anymore. There is a way to have a working mixer without pulseaudio package or a way to choose audio devices in skype with pulseaudio installed?!
