I have an Opensuse 11.1 system I am using to host a single Opensuse 10.3 KVM guest. The hardware has 2 nics that i would like the host to bridge to the guest. I have done many Googles and have not had a lot of luck finding a set of docs that I can use to help me set this up for Opensuse.

Or if there isn't any free virtualization software that will dowat I want that's free then something that is not expensive that's paid for. I like the look of Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows & Linux but I'm not sure if I would be able to justify paying �54.99 for the ammount of use that it will get?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to know or to retrieve a guide with all the steps to follow to do a hardware virtualization in a 1.5 TB-HDD in which i want to have 2 VM with VT-d (Hardware virtualization) one VM with Opensuse 11.4 x64 and the other with Windows 7 x64. The fact is that I want to run both VM's at same time and I need aid and tips with Xen 4.1 because all the Tutorials and guides that I've seen are from non updated versions (3.0, 2.2...). Do I need 3 partitions to virtualize by hardware (one for the host and the other 2 for the VM's)?? Which host OS do you recommend me?
Is it hard to configure Xen and anyway, how to do it? Basically I'm a novice use of linux and my doubts come up refering to Xen configuration, installation and Hardware virtualization selection ( Graphic Card Virtualization above all) because if I have to touch the BIOS settings tell me how, or the application sets it by itself? What I want to virtualize is a 7 Professional 64bits with most of the Disk space (at least 1 TB)for gaming&multimedia, and Opensuse 11.4 64bits. I'll use suse to work & test software.

I'm not searching for software virtualization/ full virtualization / paravirtualization. I'm searching for vt-x, vt-d & Graphic card optimizing with windows emulated environment. And do you recommend me to use another Xen version or software to achieve this goal?
I'm after something simple to use similar to the XP fax client/fax printer. Hylafax seems an overkill. HPlip app seems to expect an HP printer/scanner or fax machine. Is it true that hplip is an HP exclusive? I'm using opensuse 11.2 with kde 4.3.1, but I would consider gfax. Gfax is not on my DVD. The docs for that on the hylafax site stop at 2008. Is an up to date Gfax a possibility? I see most of the hylafax posts in the archive get redirected to the hylafax website. I've been thru most of that stuff, but much it's out of date. Hylafax seems to be the basis for other apps.
I'm signed up for the Hylafax-user list, but I didn't see any hylafax archives to browse thru. If you are still with me here, I have an opensuse 11.2 with a dial-up internet. From the DVD I installed from I installed hylafax-4.4.4-19.3.i586 and client. That install load a bunch of fax tools at places the hylafax docs don't expect. Besides that their docs only go up to opensuse 10.2, tho there is some stuff or enterprise suse.
I'd like to boot my windoze partition in opensuse. However,
System > Virtualization > Create Virtual Machines Yields nothing.
Only asks for root PW, and then does nothing else. Xen is installed.
After installation and deinstallation of XEN the main topic "Virtualization" is missing in the YAST control center.
Under "Software Management" I searched for "yast" but found no fitting module.
How can I reinstall?

This is obnoxious, because then I have to copy and paste the entire thing, which can lead to format issues, before I can continue to work on the document.

I recently upgraded to 10.10 and installed ktorrent at the same time. After the upgrade whenever I try to open up and file or folder for that matter totem tries to open them. Totem is acting like the default app for all the files on my computer. I tried uninstalling an reinstalling both totem and ktorrent and I still have the same problem.

I couldn't find the kernel docs that go with 13.1. These docs would be the result of running this in the top-level kernel source dir.

Are these not packaged? Are these built ever as part of a release or test cycle? Do any other slackers ever build these? I am seeing lots of errors from make pdfdocs "how much attention is given to DocBook on slackware?".
I have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.
Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.

When it asks me to "Enter LDAP Password:" and nothing I have tried works. I thought it might have been "olcRootPW: secret" set in the backend file in the step before, but that isn't working.
Keyboard and sometimes mouse stops functioning whilst using oowriter - it only happens with writer. I lose control for up to 30 secs and then it comes back - but it keeps happening. This is on a 10.10 machine with standard install. I have changed keyboard from wireless to wired and back to wireless with new batteries. I have uninstalled Office, rebooted and re-installed but it is still happening on native odt docs. Is this a common recent issue?

Also some pics in Firefox have inverted colors. I doubt they are related though. Im running 10.10 and have been for about 2 weeks. I am completely new to linux prior to downloading this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my graduate professional writing program, I have had to make several documents that integrate graphics. In order to manage the graphics, I taught myself how to use frames. But I discovered that the Openoffice.org word processor has a problem saving the frames correctly. I save my document and close it. When I reopen it later, the graphics in some of the frames (not all) are distorted; they appear cut in half. Examining the frames, I determined that the anchors of the affected frames had changed since I saved and closed. Changing the anchors back to whatever they were restored the graphics to normal. Every time I saved and closed, this happened again. The first solution I came up with was to save with the frames set properly, and export the document as a PDF file; the frame anchor settings will not mess up for that.
Then, because I save my school documents as Word files (the university--that program, anyway--doesn't use Linux), I tried saving the document as an OpenOffice text document (.odt). That also avoided the frame anchor settings problem, meaning the problem occurs only when saving as a Word document. But since my professors probably don't use OpenOffice, I am submitting PDF documents in this situation.
I noticed that files that were written in MS Word 2003 change when opened in Open Office 3.2.1 This usually involves tables, lists, and image placement, as well as page margins and boundaries. It sometimes makes it annoying when reading files saved in MS Word .doc format that other people send me. Does anyone know if there is an extension to fix this? Or settings that can be changed? Also, was this addressed in version 3.3.0 of OpenOffice? Has anyone tried it on LibreOffice? I don't want to install VirtualBox, Windows, and Office to read Word files properly. I dislike MS.

-dbg. Not sure about these ones too. Debug versions of binaries? Shouldn't they be included with development files? Let's be more specific.

KWord won't save as .doc format on Slackware 13.0 so I got the SlackBuild for OpenOffice and changed my .odt resume to .doc. But now yahoo won't attach it, it says it has a virus. Wtf? (I don't really think it has a virus.)
