when i login to openSUSE a window named login keyring appears and it asks me root password. it happens everytime when i login. how to fix this problem?

View 9 Replies View Relatedattempting to reinstall 11.3, my system always freezes up at different points. Always during actual installation (not setup). Burned an 11.4 disc and the same happens. First was a DVD, but the new one is a CD, and now with the new version, a little dialogue comes up at the start to tell me 1 gig of RAM may not be enough. Well, it always was before. Is there a certain combination of settings which may make it run better? Also, a live session works fine.

I can set the txpower to whatever, 12dBm for example, it accepts the change but quickly reverts back to a default value of 8dBm. Power saving is off. How can I make these changes permanent, or adjust the default value?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Xfce 4.7.0 and I want to enable automatic login. What I have tried so far:
1) YaST -> User and Group Management -> Expert Options -> Login Settings. This didn't work because I have no "Login Settings" option in this menu.
2) Editing variables "DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN" and "DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN" via YaST -> /etc/sysconfig Editor. This didn't work too and xdm was still asking about name and password no matter what I set here.
3) I don't know how to configure xdm, so I tried to replace xdm with gdm. Gdm worked, but application "gdmsetup" was missing from my installation (YaST simply don't offer this package) and I don't know how to set up gdm manually, so I ended without autologin again.
I have about 5 users for our desktop computer, 1 adult, 3 kids and me (I don't count as an adult ).
There are some settings I want to have each of the environments default to, where they can then change them as they wish on their own.
Instead of setting them one-at-a-time, is there a way to modify the settings on the template of what goes into a user's /home directory when they are created?
Examples:
Set it so when I add a person to the system theirdefault browser is set to Firefox starting home page is to our local server Open/Libre Office defaults to MS Office formats And others, less important ones like their pictures are placed in a centralized directory, not their own ~/Pictures.
After this initial setting, they are able to change any and all of these settings on their own, but to have these as default helps me set up their environments to get them started.
I like everyone else posing in this forum am trying to reconcile with 11.04. Everytime I adjust a setting in the CompizConfig Settings Manager, the top unity bar wigs out and disappears, it is still clickable but its invisible. Is there any simple fix to this? I don't think it's my hardware because other people are getting this too. I really don't like restarting/logging off my computer everytime I make a compiz change.

how can I make KDE applications to use duplex printing as default? In CUPS, I changed the default settings to "long edge binding". It works in non-KDE Applications like Openoffice, but in e.g. Okular I always have to set it every time I print. I'm using Suse 11.3 with KDE4.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI support an application that runs on RHEL 5.X and uses multipath to access a SAN. A Bare Metal Restore backup is done using Storix which needs to write directly to a /dev/sd* device, or at least what you configure it to use.The problem is if the USB drive is plugged in when the system is booted it can be identified as /dev/sdb and the the SAN LUNs are /dev/sdc and up. If the configuration file is then set up to use /dev/sdb and then later the system is booted with the USB drive not plugged in the SAN LUNs use /dev/sdb and up, which is fine because multipathd handles that. But when the USB drive is plugged in and becomes say /dev/sdx and the Storix configuration file is not changed, the Storix backup will still use /dev/sdb and corrupt what is there on the SAN.
I assume a udev rule could be used to make the USB drive appear as the same name, maybe /dev/storixI am looking for some good pointers to how to do this with udev or what ever. The application will soon be running on RHEL 6.X also, so hopefully what ever solution someone points me to will still work on it as well
I'm using OpenSUSE as a guest OS in VMware. Display settings are 1400x1050@60Hz but I want to change them for 1440x900. Using root account I go to Configure Desktop -> Display -> 1440x900. The first problem is that I can't choose 60Hz, only "Auto" or "0.0". I click Apply and the resolution changes, but if I reboot the computer or just logoff... resolution goes back to 1400x1050. My card and monitor properties: [URL]. Another strange thing is that if I click Ok on the Card and Monitor properties (changing from one resolution to another), I can choose to "Test" it, and xfine2 appears but... it ALWAYS says "1400x1050". I hate having to configure the firewall, runlevels, samba shares, samba workgroup, apparmor, and all the other junk after every install. I'm mainly interested in changing the default print resolution and the pages-per-side layout setting I can change the settings for all KDE applications through [URL], but I can't seem to be able to find the respective dialog for Firefox / GTK applications.
Firefox itself doesn't seem to have a dialog for the printer default settings; I've looked into about:config but all the value names are rather confusing.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI'm on openSUSE 11.1 KDE 4.3 RC, and I'm using the kde-branding-openSUSE with KDM from the factory KDE repo, and factory community repo - everything is up-to-date.For some reason my KDM login settings screen is ALL grayed out, so I can't change the theme/settings. I know that you can change it by going to yast and editing the /etc/sysconfig thinghich I actually tried doing, and failing, which is odd because I changed it once a ltime ago to glassified, but can't manage to do now...) I don't want to use a theme, though, but actually use my current wallpaper and set the settings in the login manager to something of my preference.

Do i need to install a firewall GUI and make any special settings? I didn't encrypt home folder during installation. I probably should have done it. But i am already low on system resources (224MB ram, 1.2Ghz CPU). Would that use up any additional resources? Would it make computer run slower? Everytime i update kernel, mkinitrd only create initrd image contains only hdd driver current running, and I must recreate initrd manual with all preload hdd driver. How to config fedora to everytime update kernel, mkinitrd can make initrd image with all hdd driver I need?
I downloaded nagserver.i686-0.0.1.vmx.tar.gz - unzipped ok - my vmware player loads it up nicely. Unfortunately I don't know the login and password - also don't know the root as well. I tried searching the internet and this forum for the default logins and passwords but couldn't find it. It's a VM running on opensuse 11.2 and I'm stuck at the login prompt.
