OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Install OS11.2?

I downloaded the latest stable release from the opensuse download site and when I try to install it, it fails. Basically, the installation reaches 50% and then I get a message : Failed copying image file to hard disk. The hard disk on my PC is 18GB and the installer suggests 10.7 GB for /home and 7.2 GB for /root. I read somewhere that /root needs to be allocated a min of 10 GB, but the installer does not let me change the size /root to more that 7.2 GB. how can I go about installing it?

I am running OpenSuSE 11.2 64bit which was upgraded from 11.1. When I moved to OS 11.2, I found out the hard way about VMWare not working. Then tried to remove it and fix it myself.
When I try to run the config script...

Other than rebuilding my box, how can I recover from this?

I used KDE3 with 11.0 with some KDE4 apps till I needed some applications from the KDE4 factory tree and mistakenly left the repository active. Next time the online update also updated most of the applications I would rather keep, and as a result the KDE3 disappeared from the KDM login choices. So I have two questions:1. how to enable users to select KDE3 at login (currently I have to select failsafe mode and run startkde manually)2. how to replay back an update I didn't want to have?
Perhaps a combination of the above: can I upgrade to OS11.2 and keep KDE3? (please don't tell me to switch to KDE4, I acknowledge and appreciate the effort and the improvements that KDE4 got, but it's still not a replacement for KDE3 - there are so many simple things which are impossible in the new version)

Toshiba notebook is set up to triple boot win7, mepis 8.5 and os 11.3.Recent update of os11.3 left system with boot failure, "file not found".I booted mepis and used utility to reinstall grub, but no joy.
Appeared to install ok but on reboot, sda5 identified as 'mepis' not os11.3 and would not boot. Win7 & mepis boot ok.
Next, booted live Parted Magic and repaired as per another thread here, but again, no joy.NONE of the systems will boot.Rebooted mepis live cd and reinstalled grub again. Sda5 still identified as mepis and will not boot. Win7 & mepis boot ok.

I just reinstalled my OpenSuse 11.3 with the GNOME desktop. As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. Whenever I try to login, it tells me that it is "Unable to Open Session".o any of you know how I can fix this without having to reinstall all over again

Im not able to install the package mesa-32bit from this repository: Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.3. It tells me to make a huge change on architecture on many packages, plus downgrading mesa to 7.8.2 from 7.9 !

I'm having an issue when I'm trying to install SuSE linux onto my desktop.I go through all the steps and everything looks okay, but when it starts to install the packages, I get an error message that basically says:kernel.desktop - unable to install, exit status 127.I have a ATI X1950 video card in the computer, as well as a AMD 64 FX CPU in the system.

I'm trying to install my first linux system. I would like to use it as a server on an old 386 PC.For the internet connexion (ADSL) i use a Speedtouch USB modem.When i list the peripheral installed on the system, i see the modem with apparently a driver, but the device is listed as non classified. For me it should be directed to DSL0 but..According to some tuto i declared a DSL connection, ppp with ATM (VPI8 and VCI35).I launch the connection with pinternet but the connection failed.

I've successfully downloaded openSUSE-11.4(64-bit) ISO image from the openSUSE site,and burned the ISO image successfully into 2 DVD's separately using Nero(ver.7) But I am unable to boot up from the DVD. When I pop in the DVD into my DVD-writer,a few seconds go by with the blinking cursor,and eventually boots off to Windows.The BIOS setting of my machine has been enabled to boot from CD/DVD first before HDD. No error messages are shown while I try to boot. The burned ISO image file is O.K. as it gets successfully verified after writing on the DVD. The image file {openSUSE-11.4 (64-bit)}being 4.29GB in size

I am trying to setup HA for mySQL on SLES11sp1 with DRBD and heartbeat. I found the HAE of SLES seems has DRBD and SLES10 also have a older version. I have done a big big mistake (I could beat myself up for that) with my netbook and now I am sitting here, not getting openSUSE installed on it.
I wanted to try another netbook linux and installed (more by accident than intentionally) Easy Peasy Linux. This system is not bad, but cannot work with the wireless adapter in my netbook. However, I then wanted to install openSUSE 11.4 again, which ran fine on the netbook. But the install always gets stuck in different stages and I donīt know why.
Sometimes a failure message comes up: "filesystem is read only, rebooting in 120 seconds", but I am not really sure if this is for the harddrive or the usb stick. In other occasions, the bootprocess until install gets stuck at "starting KDM". Nothing happens then... thats it.
I already have reformatted the usb stick and copied the openSUSE Live CD via Imagewriter on it again... no success.
So now I am really confused, because I donīt know if there is something wrong with the harddrive? Or is it the stick itself? How can I find this out?
If it is the harddrive, how can I at least refomat it? Remember: no CD or DVD drive, just USB stick...
How can I find out if the image on the stick is ok? I already tested the install media and it said: "checksum ok"

I can download them onto /usr/java Then I want to use the YAST-software installer, but I do not know how to install it from Sun nor to install it from the software-manager.

I downloaded the DVD 32 bit and 64 bit as I have 2 machines, one 32 and one 64. After I burn the disks, I put the DVD in and run the check media. The 32 bit version says invalid checksums, cd is broken. I try to install and ever single checksum is invalid, not just one. But every file. The 64 bit says it has bad sectors in it. And will not install. I have tried re-downloading them. Tried burning them on computers. Tried different burning speeds. Nothing. Is this just bad files on the website, or is this all my computrs?

I have just tried to install suse 11.3 onto an old machine which is a pentium 4 but whilst the install i had about 100 messages saying that the certain rpms could not be installed. i also kept getting checksum errors. then at the end of the install it said there was an error with the boot loader and i could not install it.
does any one know why this is happening?

I recently upgraded my SuSE 11.2 to KDE4.4 from "download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.2/". Most things run fine, however the "Akonadi Control Center" does not appear in my KDE "System Settings". Akonadi itself seems to run, at least Contact uses it for the addresses.
I searched for all "akonadi" packages, but I didn't find ones which I do not have installed.

Has anyone succeeded in coercing either banshee or rhythmbox to play "restricted" media? On my 11.3 install, I have all the packages from the "one-click" install that takes 49 clicks to find on the new wiki structure ... Playback works correctly in mplayer, gnome-mplayer, and smplayer. VLC works also, ... yawn ....
This is the third consecutive release [COLOR="rgb(0, 0, 0)"](AT BEST)[/COLOR] where this stuff is badly broken! By badly broken, I mean that installing all the needed software and codecs does not appear to be the only requirement. I was able to get it working in 11.1 and 11.2, but only via a hit and miss series of un-install the packages, reinstall one by one ... making offerings of fatty sheep ... reinstalling again .... performing the second part of the ring cycle for the neighbours cat ... remove the codecs again .... install again ... wow ... it's working ... set the entire system to ro ... sing for the cat again!
Does anyone have any insight as to why gstreamer is SOOOOOOO foobared in OpenSUSE? Can anyone articulate a series of steps that will actually get the desired result? BTW, getting this stuff working in FC13 is trivial. Add the fusion repo and install the codecs! I remember a better day in SuSE land when one added the packman repo and installed the codecs ...

After been convinced by an exchange student from Nashville I am hosting here in Germany I went into openSuse 11.2. I installed and got openSuse 11.2 to work. I must admit, that I was very impressed. It is more than 10 years that I tried a UNIX system and Linux was quite a cryptic thing. First some additional drivers had to be installed to get MP3 to play. However Internet access was possible with cable but the system failed in recognizing the WLAN.

I have looked through some posts but must admit, that I did not understand much of that. I Am willing to learn, however I do not see myself compiling some drivers. If you could tell me which URL could be used for dloading or installing via Yest, If more sophisticated solutions, than I will have to ask my student to do it for me, but he should learn German and learn more about German lifestile in German Bars.

Is there any possibilities to make Creative HS-1200 wireless headset to work in OS11.1?
It shows up in Mixer panel, but i cant in any way configure it or make it work. It seems its been detected in some way, but i Yast-Sound it doesnt show up. Only in KMix.

i just installed a new wireless device from encore electronics(802.11g Wireless PCI Adapter ENLWI-G2) but it deadlocks openSUSE 11.2 when i start the networking module in YaST. It also deadlocks(Freezes up) when i tried reinstalling suse. can someone help me, has anyone got this device to work? I also tried Fedora 12... it manages to see my wlan and posts the mac address of the card.. but it also locks up while trying to use it or configure it

I recently install opensuse 11.2 and I can't install R, I've tried to install it from the cran website and from the education repository without succed. Installing from the education repository creates a new folder in the root folder which contains R (or at least a think), but i can't execute it.
