I wanted to try my hand at programming in an easy way, so I installed from the Ubuntu Software Center Basic-256. But it is more than 3 years old and does not fit to a book I downloaded. I got from Sourceforge the latest version which is a .tgz file. How do I install it?

To extract the cpio file,
move the cpio file to an empty directory,

but its not extracting.
When I try to install this extension in OpenOffice, I'm asked to read (and scroll through) the "Extension Software License Agreement" and accept it - but there are no buttons and no scroll bars. I tried clicking all over in case it was just invisible, but no luck.If I close the window, installation doesn't proceed.I'm on Mandriva 2009.0, but thinking of trying out Debian.

1) start Firefox from command line "firefox -P"
2) create new Firefox profile on NTFS volume (mounted with NTFS-3g)
3) add NoScript extension (through extension manager Get Add-ons), restart Firefox as suggested
4) extension is not added to Firefox In case at step 2) profile is created on Linux volume, at 4) extension is added to firefox.I'm not 100% sure, but I think this bug is related to Firefox 3.6 update (no problems with Firefox 3.5). I did not make proper investigation, but I have feeling same problem applies to Thunderbird 3.1.This issue does not allow to share Firefox/Thunderbird profile on dual boot machine (Ubuntu/WindowsXP).

Problem is that unlike the community edition at the repositories, this one does not installs itself. The computer I have has four accounts set up. One is the administrative account which i use to install and perform maintenance. The other three are regular users (me, my wife and daughter). What I would like to do is install the software and then add an entry on the menu that propagates to all users. Most likely I would install it in the /opt folder.What permissions do I need to set?How do I create an entry in the Applications list that propagates to all users? The same thing happens with Lightscribe. It installed itself in the /opt folder but did not create an entry for any user.

Is it possible for two computers to access the same program from 1 system at the same time using remote x apps? In other words can a system have two instances of a program running and being utilized by two different computers remotely?
For example lets say I install Program X on Computer 1. I ssh into Computer 1 from Computer 2 and use remote x apps to use Program X. Is it possible for Computer 3 to ssh into Computer 1 and use Program X at the same time using it for a completely different task?
