I have a Saitek Eclipse Keyboard (illuminated keys) and a Logitech MX518 optical mouse. They are both USB.
When I shut down my computer from Windows XP, both the illumination on the keyboard and the optical beam on the mouse turn off. With Ubuntu, both stay on. How do I get them to work correctly?
BTW, I noticed how the spell check on this site recognizes 'Ubuntu' but not 'ubuntu';
I want to see the scrolling console messages when Ubuntu shuts down instead of the 4 dot splash animation. Is this possible, and how can I do it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Toshiba A300 laptop turns itself on after about 4 minutes from the shutdown. This doesn't happen with Win7. When it turns on, I shutdown using the power off button and it doesn't turn on again. I disabled all the wake options in the BIOS, also I uninstalled the ACPI, but this did not help. I also disabled the WOL in Ubuntu with "sudo ethtool -s eth0 wol d" before the shutdown, but this didn't helped too.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been struggling a while with getting the iMON LCD/IR-receiver on my Antec Fusion Black case to shutdown together with the system (XBMC Live 10). But it won't. When it's turned off the LCD still lights up the whole room. Many have proposed the "solution" of setting the machine into hibernation instead but that however won't work for me, since I'm unable to suspend my system.
It is the LCD/IR-module that prevents me from suspending and I haven't found a solution to properly unload it on suspending (it's way above my linux knowledge). getting the display to turn off the backlight when the system is turned off.

this problem is a well known one as far as I have read, but the solution is yet to come.I formatted and installed OpenSuse 11.3 KDE as the only OS on a PC with 768 RAM, two Hard Disks (6+8 GB), mobo Abit BE6, processor Celeron Coppermine 1100Mhz (with slotket adapter), video card Matrox G400+, Sound Blaster Live! Value.HD 1 is set root and ext4 + 1 GB swap, HD2 is /home ext3.The live OpenSuse CD worked fine, shutdown turns off the power, while the installed one won't. I formatted twice, and the problem persist. Reboot works fine.At shutdown, the hard disks are turned off while the screen and power are still on, so I have to press the power button to turn off completely.
Yesterday I wasted all the day with this problem without solving it, I've read many threads but no solution worked. That PC obviously worked fine with both Windows 98 and XP.Those problems are in the "out of the box" installation, without any setting altered.I've tried disabling ACPI, PM control by APM, and power management features in the bios (latest 2001's Award bios for this old mobo).I've set alternatively pci=noacpi, nosmp, apm=power-off, acpi=force in GRUB options. I've updated the distro. I've set value poweroff for HALT in etc/sysconfig. Ever since I installed openSuse 11.2, my monitor wont turn off after I shutdown my computer.
The monitor light changes to orange, like its turning itself off. But then the light changes to green and the message "no signal detected" comes on - then the light turns orange. This cycle repeats untill I manually hit the power button to turn it off.
I booted to windows 7 (dual boot), shutdown, but it is still happening!
Like I said, this started happening immediately after I installed openSuse.
Having the hardest time turning the mouse sensitivity down in xfce. Various xset settings make no real difference. I move the mouse under an inch and it covers the entire screen easily. razertool-gtk won't recognize my mouse (also, I couldn't find any documentation at all for it, but maybe I'm just dumb), the xfce settings don't lower it enough, and the last thing I was going to try was to edit my xorg.conf. I though there was supposed to be a mouse section there, and this is all I have in my xorg.conf file:

Basically i turned on a setting that allows me to focus on any window when i move mouse over it, so i can type in a window that is focused by my mouse. And i can not remember how to turn it off!

While typing thismorning I inadvertently somehow disabled the keyboard (the mouse worked fine).I discovered that the keyboard worked on bootand I could log into my account (or other accounts)with the keyboard, but ONLY within my account wasthe keyboard dead. Rebooting the computer did NOTcure the problemI finally cured it by logging in as root, and renamingthe .kde4 directory in my home directory as .kde4xand then logging back in as myself.But (a) what did I do and how did I do it and (b) isthere a cleaner way to undo this should I do it again?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading to 11.3, from 11.2, I apparently have only one nagging problem: the numpad doesn't work. After doing some research I found the problem is obviously that mouse keys is on; shift-numlock fixed it. But, I can't find any place in YaST or KDE System Settings to change that. Where did it go?
I did look in the xorg.conf.d folder and checked all the files there, but no luck.
So where do I find this setting?
Is it possible to shutdown pc from gdm login screen using just keyboard?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi had it on my laptop dualbooted with Win 7. win 7 sucked and couldnt get anything to work but ubuntu worked flawlessly. so i decied to try and delete win 7 and only have ubuntu.i just tired installing a new ubuntu and eraseing everything elase. i dont need anything on this computer.i made a live usb stick and i can get to the install screen i pick my languge and install. then it goes to the screen were i need to pick default launge and then answer some questoins before i install. but the probmlem is that i cant use my mouse or keybored there. caps and nub lock lights wont turn on

I want the mouse pointer goes to left side of screen when it reaches right side of desktop and vice versa. Or goes to bottom of the desktop area when it reaches top of screen. It makes using mouse and moving around the desktop area using a touchpad easier.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Genius K627 Keyboard with Power, Sleep and Wake buttons. ACPI is unsupported on my computer, but it can turn off its power supply when the system halts (PM is ok). I would like to bind the Power key on the keyboard to execute the /sbin/halt command. What I already know is that I can specify an event in inittab (kbrequest) that would execute a command. What I don't know how I can make my system receive pressing Power button as a kbrequest. The scancodes of Power button on the keyboard (by showkey): 0x74 0xf4

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 using the distro upgrade feature. Everything was upgraded without errors.
However, my mouse/keyboard now freezes after 10+ minutes of use. Both are unresponsive, and the keyboard lights does not change with the use of caps-lock, etc.
The system didn't crash though. I had a download running which was completed despite the mouse/keyboard hang.
The computer is barely usable now, I really wished I didn't upgrade...
I'm having some weird problems with my mouse and keyboard. I'll be moving the mouse and keyboard about and all of a sudden the keyboard won't respond and the mouse moves and is fully working, but it seems to be a problem with the desktop, more then the mouse, because it'll highlight stuff and certain stuff will open when I click them, but when I go down to the toolbar, and try to click applications, places, and system, it'll highlight it but not respond when I click it. This happens about every 45 Minutes, to 1 hour of time with ubuntu running [10.04] [Additional details]
- I'm using an HP Pavilion Dv6000 Laptop, 64 Bit Ubuntu 10.04
- My drivers are all up to date
- Could it be because my Laptop gets really hot? But it dosen't happen ever when I'm running Windows, so I'm not so sure about that.

Now I can't login because neither my keyboard nor mouse (and touch-pad) work. However, I can access the command mode (terminal?) though through the grub boot menu.
how I can get my mouse (and touch-pad) and keyboard to work with Ubuntu 10.04? My machine is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I dual boot with Windows 7, and I'd prefer not to have to clear out the partition for Linux and reinstall.
I messed up my xorg.conf and tried to put in a clean one, but it doesn't seem to work. I'm not sure what went wrong. When X loads, the mouse cursor is not responding and my keyboard is dead too. I've had these problems ever since upgrading to 10.10Boot up goes nowhere unless I touch the trackpad or keyboard. My clock says it's 10:00am but it's three in the afternoon, so I'm always having to resync with NTP. Music and video stutters with playback unless I touch the trackpad.I'm on a Toshiba NB205 netbook.These are pretty big problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only one using 10.10. Is there no fix out for this yet?
