Software :: OpenSuSE 11.2 And 11.3 Beta - Install ?
Apr 3, 2010No matter which source I have for 11.2, be it CD download, Net download, or commercial DVD reprint, I get to a point in the install where I get error messages about not being able to download a repository....OR...on another machine I can install but the update applet, after installation, shows errors. When queried, it says it cannot find repositories.
On the second machine, I remove the update applet from the installation using yast and then go to zypper and zypper says it cannot find the repositories. Yet, Yast will show the repositories as being in existence.
Before installation the hard drive is wiped clean and is ready for any OS.
I've taken these same installation media to a friend, he has provided a clean drive, and the same problem occurs on his machine no matter which type of installation is tried. (We both use removeable drives - not USBs).
I try to take my errors and my usage out of the problem before I comment on an OS. But I am starting to believe that 11.2 isn't clean and the same but has been ported to 11.3.beta.

Dec 24, 2009If I install flash player from yast or from "firefox plugins search", I only install version 10.0.*.*. Now I want to install version 10.1 beta. I downloaded package "flasplayer..." from adobe flash website. Then I extract it and run:

into /usr/lib64/browser-plugins/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so
Afterward, I restart firefox and firefox requires install flashplayer . In some tutorials I see " Create symlink plugins to..." after "Install plugin ./libflashplayer.so...". In my computer I can't see this. I use opensuse 11.2 64bit. I try to install flash player 10.1 beta because I can't upload to mediafire Site. How to install 10.1 beta to solve this problem.

I used the one click install for kdepim4 4.4.93 and it pulled in the kde distro factory 4.5.1 repo as well automatically, but when I try to install any of the beta stuff, it complains of requiring kdebase4-runtime >= 4.5.2 which doesn't exist anywhere. So do I have to test the entire kde unstable or can I just test kdepim (what i really want to do) as the post on news.kde.org indicated.

Mar 10, 2011I just installed 11.4 x86_64. Using FF beta 4, I can get to the Main Page - openSUSE and log in there, but when going to the forums, it doesn't recongnize my login and I cannot log in through the link.
I wonder why FF4 Beta is the default install for 11.4.

Jul 16, 2011I'm trying to use Amarok with last.fm. I am a member there but I haven't played any music there yet. I've tried signing in with Amarok, and it says that I signed in successfully but when I try to see my "stations" (My Recommendations; My Radio Station) I get this error message about having to be a paying subscriber to see or play my lists. I've also tried signing in from the website and then trying it in Amarok (the website plays music just fine, btw) but that did not help. KWallet keeps popping up too saying that there is no running wallet and do I want my info saved. At first, I kept saying "no" and canceling that but after trying a few times, I allowed KWallet to save my login info as text. I still can't see any lists. Are there any dependencies that Amarok uses for this last.fm service?

I've just followed the instructions at SDB:Skype - openSUSE again, as before. The install didn't start automatically when the download finished so I used package installer. Skype appears to start normally, before promptly closing itself after about 3-5 seconds. When running it from terminal, I get the message:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Nvidia Beta 195.30 Driver Gone?
Feb 26, 2010I'm setting up Suse 11.2 on PC w/ an Nvidia GT 240. I used the 1-click installation, found it didn't work, then discovered this thread saying the 240 requires the newest beta driver, 195.30, which is not available yet in 1-click and has to be manually installed.
However, that driver is no longer available on Nvidia's download site, either through their menu or the direct link given in the forum thread:

Nor do I see it in the Nvidia repository.
why it was removed? Is there a major problem with it? If not, any idea how I can get it?
And if I can find an install it, I assume I need to first uninstall the 1-click version?

Jun 18, 2011I'm having trouble trying to get Amarok to play CDs or play tracks from any Media Device.
When I insert a CD into my CD drive the Device Notifier widget gives me 2 options "Play Audio CD with Kaffeine" and "Play Audio CD with Amarok". Kaffeine can play the CD but Amarok doesn't see the device.
Also when I attach my iPod to my computer I can view the files in Dolphin but the device isn't shown in the Content Browser of Amarok.
In Amaroks configuration menu I have the plugins for both AudioCd Collection and iPod Collection

Igo to playlist at top then add media scroll to cd-rom on the lfet and pick a cda file but it wont play, what am i missing, i just went through mmcheck and added what i needed. is it suppose to play in amorok as well?

Mar 11, 2011After installing 11.4/LXDE which comes with FF 4 Beta, The openSUSE Flash Plugin package was automatically installed, but doesn't seem to be installed into FF properly. When FF > Addons is opened, no Flash plugin is listed. If you then attempt to install install Flash from Adobe, Adobe doesn't seem to recognize FF 4 as a supported browser.
On top of that, if you visit the nVidia site to explore OEM display drivers, their site is Flash driven and won't permit driver searching, must less browsing and possible downloading. This was important to me to try to obtain the OEM nVidia Configuration Manager which vastly enhances display management, particularly on the somewhat lean LXDE desktop.

message when a page contains a flash object. This did not happen with previous versions of the plugin. Reloading the page with F5 is usually enough and everything seems to work without problems. ntil I load another page and then have another crash. In fact, the crash mostly happens when loading the page, not when the flash object is already loaded.

Feb 16, 2010I have just installed opensuse 11.2 and I am trying to get Amarok to work. I click on Coolstreams, click on my favourite station.
The toolbar tells me the music is playing (confirms the name of the song and other of its details) but there is no sound nor timer count.
Could a music playing plugin be missing ?
If so what is it?

Mar 9, 2010I am having a problem with Amarok 1.4.10 in openSUSE 11.1 that was not in 10.3. When Amarok is playing, the hard drive is in constant use. If something else, like a find, runs Amarok starts skipping. There is also a skip when ever I un-pause play. I dont see anything in Amarok config to increase or use a memory cache.

Apr 12, 2010I'm having a problem playing music in Amarok 2.3, although it worked fine in Amarok 2.0 and still works fine in Amarok 1.4 which I can still run.
Firstly, when I start Amarok 2.3, it displays an error message saying that no support for MP3 files is installed, and asks if I would like to install it now. It then says that support for MP3 has been successfully installed. But when I try to play a track, nothing happens, nothing. It doesn't even try to play it.
I have another thread here, regarding multimedia settings: Multimedia - Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_phonon.so - openSUSE Forums, but not sure if it is related.

OpenSUSE :: Amarok Won't Play Audio?
Aug 7, 2010I've just installed suse 11.3 and installed the necessary mp3/ogg etc packages for Amarok. But amarok just keeps crashing when i try to play an audio cd, mp3 or radio stream. something about segmentation fault, but not enough data for a bug report. Kaffeine plays audio like a charm, but amarok seems only able to crash. I really hate any not working programs on my computer, so what can i do to solve this?
solving meaning:
1) get rid of amarok, but keep kaffeine playing every format.
2) fix amarok so it plays audio.
I am really a noob to linux and not a big fan of the terminal.
