I've been trying to compile a small program on my 64bit Centos 5.3 but I need to compile it in 32bit mode. I've tried editing the make file and changing CC=gcc to CC='gcc -m32" and that doesn't work. I have also tried to use "make CC='gcc -m32' and that doesn't work either. It wont compile. Do I need to install something with yum to get 32bit compiler to work?
I am running CentOs 5. I am trying to install an RPM for a tn5250 program to connect to my I5 server. Whe i run yum install on the rpm it tells me the public hey for the rpm is not installed. What can I do to det this installed?
Is it possible to list/find/compare the program versions on a Centos system, against Redhat/Centos Errata/Security/Bug lists? Sort of looking for a way to make sure that all the packages on a system are ok, and not a security risk-- Without having to update every package. A pseudo code, in my mind is:
I have installed open ldap in my centos. When I tried to use slappasswd, the terminal said "bash: slappasswd : command not found".I have searched for the file and I found it that it is in /usr/sbin and that it is link to slapd (also in the same directory). How can I get the program slappasswd?
I'm trying to execute a C++ program on PowerPC. But I am facing an error saying: "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". But a C program gets executed successfully. The programs are cross compiled using PowerPC cross compiler.
I have rented a VPS based on CentOS5 (naturally) from Burst.net who use a front panel by vePortal.I can't access it by its own shell and am told that CentOS5 does not come with FTP or Putty access. THey must be installed by me.(I'm not sure of the support competence at the provider, so I've come to the source)I think/hope that such basics would be part of the primary OSystem? How would I install programs onto a system with no such access?
I have a dual-monitor setup. I have some programs which I would like to start automatically. I each one to start up full screen on a particular monitor, in a particular workspace. Then I can use the workspace facilities to easily switch between the programs, and they will always appear on the correct monitor, in the correct workspace. (At least one of the programs (VMWare Workstation) does not seem to be startable using the facilities to save the current session on logout.)
I'm having trouble running programs from a flash drive. They're small self-compiled console programs my CS teacher wanted me to try out. I get "bash: permission denied" every time. Copied them to my ~ and they work fine. The files have the right properties set. I believe the drive may formatted as VFAT/FAT32.
CentOS 5.5, I've installed Synergy to share my keyboard/mouse and it works fine. Now I'm trying to get it to load automatically at boot.
The command is simple, "synergyc <computername>".
I've tried putting the command (see above) into rc.local I've tried putting the command in a script and referencing in in rc.local I've followed the instructions for building it into init levels (2-5) with chkconfig
I've just ordered my first vps with centos 5. I've got a minecraft server running through the provider's in house ssh client. After I close and reconnect to the session the server continues to run (which is great) but I can't give it any commands because I have no idea how to resume the session with a given program that's already running.
So this picture will explain [URL].. So after i typejj java -jar RSBot-257.jar it should have to come ijj up.It doesent show any errors but doesent start. What to do?
I am trying to add some functions to a Postgresql database. The functions use a shared library which they think is: /usr/lib/pgsql/postgis-1.4.so They say: "ERROR: could not load library "/usr/lib/pgsql/postgis-1.4.so": libgeos_c.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
I cd to /usr/lib/pgsql/ and do an ls. postgis-1.4.so is there. libgeos_c.so.1 is as well (and it's in /usr/lib/ )
Both the files seem to exist. I cannot copy either of them (cp says "cannot stat '[file]': No such file or directory".
I have a user setup to receive email, which I would like automatically to be sent into a program that I'm writing. Should I be looking into procmail, or is there a shorter way in /etc/mail (for sendmail) to route all of a specific user's email into a program? I don't care whether the emails are ever written into /var/mail. CentOS 5.3, kernel 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5, sendmail 8.13.8
I've a java program which needs to be executed regardless of whether a user is logged in or not. Currently I've a shell script which executes the java program. I login to the server and run this shell script when the server is rebooted. I would like to start this script automatically preferably as a service so that I can stop and restart this service whenever I update the java program.
I have a CentOS server running at [a link which has been moderator deleted] (a text-based game I'm building) which is displaying the default welcome page. I'll quote some of the things that page says:
Quote: "Apache 2 Test Page powered by CentOS This page is used to test the proper operation of the Apache HTTP server after it has been installed. If you can read this page it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly."
"If you are the website administrator: You may now add content to the directory /var/www/html/. Note that until you do so, people visiting your website will see this page and not your content. To prevent this page from ever being used, follow the instructions in the file /etc/httpd/conf.d/welcome.conf. You are free to use the images below on Apache and CentOS Linux powered HTTP servers.

I need to find a command-line program to randomly change my MAC address. I know on Ubuntu there is a program called 'macchanger'. And on Windows another one called 'macshift'. I just can't find one for CentOS 5.3 Enterprise Edition.
what program runs the Session lock and the screen saver for gnome and KDE on centos 5.5. But most importantly id like to know what the config file for the screensaver/session lock is called and where its most likely located.
The first server I installed installed fine. The second server, installed with the same config, went to "kernel panic not syncing no init found try passing init= option in kernel" error. I tried reinstalling but it keeps going to that error after install reboot. The storage is ISCSI connected via Intel Server Adapter, which allows it to boot from ISCSI. Not sure if that's the cause for the problem, but the first server is connected to the same ISCSI and installed just fine.
Is there a way that I can make sure ISCSI module installs during installation? Although I think it is installed since it's able to copy the files and setup /dev/sda. I just wana make sure that it installs during setup.
I have tried to install debian 5.0 and 4.0 without any luck. I have both tried virt-manager and virt-install with both debian-501-i386-netinst.iso, and full dvd. I't always gives me the same error:Starting install.Could not find an installable distribution at '/xen/debian-501-i386-netinst.iso'
i didnt find a solution to a display problem im having. my server mobo is an asus k8n-dre with built in video. after the install(using built in video) the screen dosnt display fully as in black sections on the left and top of the screen. from the searching i did i found something about an "xrandr" command that would let me change the video settings but it didnt do anything with the black areas when i tried it. i also have a nvidia geforce 9500gt video card so i changed the jumper to boot from it and tried again. the black sections are still there but the centos display covers much more of the screen now. theres still about a third of an inch gap on the left hand side and about 1/4 of an inch on the top. ive also tried updating the software to see if it may be a driver issue but no luck. anyone know how or if it can fit to full sceen? the screen displays up to 1440x900 if im not mistaken but with the built in video it gave me lots of display options including the 1440x900. after changing to the nvidia card it only shows 800x600 and 640x480.
I am trying to install CentOS 5.2, and the installation ran out of disk space after running for about 2 hours.I checked the FAQ, and it said 1.2 GB. The disk is 3 GB. The default install was selected, and I think that it checks for sufficient available disk space before installing. Still, it ran for quite a while before announcing that it was out of disk space. The Installation Guide is not very helpful, since there is a blank page where the disk space requirement is supposed to be. I just picked the default installation. A search of the forums on "not enough disk space" did not return much.
I have successfully installed CentOS 5.4, and after choosing it from the GRUB menu, I am getting the following error message:1706-Smart Array Controller Extended BIOS Data Area Memory Corrupted. Int 13h BIOS Cannot Continue - System Halted.I'm using two SAS disks that came along with the server, left the default RAID configuration (1+0) on a P410 controller
I've got a box (prev used for WinXP) with 2GB Ram and a new 500GB HD to throw in there.Noticed on the Wiki CreatingUpdateMedia and reading as much as I can ramping up for this.I'm curious how I should partition this disk, and what other decisions I'll need to make on install.I see quite a bit of interest also in virtualization, and if I find a need, this could be useful too.Kernel upgrades?how to do? Does the disk have to be wiped or just use an alternate boot device to replace K on HD? I have a tech background in programming and some solaris, but *nix has grown up in the last 5 years.Hopefully devices will function and networking connectivity can be acheived without too much troubleshooting.
I'm doing this in part to be more educated, especially in the new world of web-hosting where you have a virtualized box, root and shell access, and need to manage it yourself. Beyond that even, my goal is to be able to work on my web-host by setting up a remote linux desktop, and I'll be looking for ways to configure that. There are clients out there (VNC, etc), but I'm not sure on the host-server configuration, and also the port-forwarding setup on my local router.
[URL]VMware Workstation 7.0.1 Release Notes has a list of supported OS:[URL]According to that, RHEL 5.4 is listed as supported for both host andguest but CentOS 5.4 is only for guest. This is quite strange and, ifit is true, that could be a serious issue.I succeed to install vmware workstaion 7.1 on centos 5.5, but have run-time error:
[root@ ~]# /etc/init.d/vmware start Starting VMware services: VMware USB Arbitrator [ OK ]
