I downloaded GnuBG (Gnu Backgammon) from repos. Despite enabling sound it remains silent.Can anyone confirm it's a problem on my side? I can't see any option to configure the sound output or anything.

First how do I get HDMI audio output to my TV? I think I have just a integrated Intel graphics card. It works fine in windows but I can't seem to get it to work in Ubuntu. I tried searching but couldn't find anything pertaining to this issue.

So here's the situation. He plugs his audio jack into his computer and then into the speakers but it still plays from the computer speakers.
I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.
I will also list the updates from my synaptic history. I'm having to use Win7 . And i only wanted that for the few games that one run well in wine.

I have a fresh install of Natty and i'm having some issues getting sound to work. My laptop has a built in sound card which works just fine. However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. I ran the alsa-info.sh script and the output can be found here.

1. When I change the sound to internal sound the webcam works in Skype but I have not sound.
2. When I change the sound to the USB headset (sound output) the webcam does not work in Skype.
I have installed Fedora 10-x86_64. I was happy and content with the distribution. Earlier, I found that there is no sound on my headphone's jack where as the normal sound output from my laptops's speakers is OK. I fiddled with the available mixers but couldnt get anything. There seem to be 5 different mixers (HDA, ALSA, OSS), 3 for the playback and 2 for the capture.
I am using an acer 4530 laptop. It has a nvidia Nforce MCP77 chipset. and the o/p lsmod| grep snd :

I'm working on a alias/script that will make it easier to look at my environment via the set command.
On my ubunto when running set it also displays some 10 pages of code pertaining to something called "imagemagik". at the end of the output. This code begins with the { character.
This is annoying if I want to look at my environment when working on scripts. How could I use something like grep, awk, sed, or whatever to ignore everything after the "{" character.
That seems to be the simplest way as long as there are no leading brackets in my environment. (And if you're thinking I should just remove {imagemagik}, I might just do that. But I still would like to know how to do this).
I have a Dell mini 10 netbook that I am trying to set up as a temporary HTPC. Using XP, I can send the video and audio over the HDMI connection, but when I attempt to do so from Ubuntu, there is not an option for a different monitor.

I can do this easily enough through System --> Preferences --> Sound, but I'd like to create a GUI front end for me to do this. This is more as a learning exercise than anything else.What is the best language for me to build the windows to do this? Also, how do I find the commands to let me toggle the sound settings? find /var/svn/* ( ! -name dir -prune ) -type d -exec svnadmin dump {} > {}.svn ;
This seems to work, in that it looks through each svn repository in /var/svn, and runs svnadmin dump on it.
However, the second {} in the exec command doesn't get substituted for the name of the directory being processed. It basically just results a single file named {}.svn.
I suspect that this is because the shell interprets > to end the find command, and it tries redirecting stdout from that command to the file named {}.svn.
I have configured my sound drivers many times. After doing this i am able to listen a sound. But after booting there is necessary to configure them again. So is there a any way for permanent configuration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI hope anyone of you can help me build autofs5_5.0.4-3.2_amd64.deb and autofs5-ldap_5.0.3-3_amd64.deb-packages with a modified source for debian testing. The trouble is, the packages from the repositories do not work with our ldap server. I know that using the configure option DISABLE_MOUNT_LOCKING might solve it. But I (a) fail to build the modules and (b) am not sure if I put the compile option in the right place. I dont have much experience with building deb packages, maybe someone can give me a hint.

There must be something simple that I have missed.
I am running fedora 11 and I am configuring my menu.ist file. I attached the menu.ist file in txt extension. What I want is:
1- I want the first option to be Windows XP (which is on the second HD) and I want the text to be Windows XP instead of Other. This option should be the default (so if I didn't press anything it will boot from xp).
2- To remove the 2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i686.PAE kernel from the list and keep the 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586.img available as a second option.
3- Increase the countdown time to 10 seconds.
How do I configure PAM to use the remember option for the passwd. It should remember the last 10 passwords and shouldnt allow the user to use the same old passwords. Here is what I have configured but doesnt work

I booted to command line only and entered the following command: Sudo Xorg -configure > xorglog.txt
the command seems to run just fine and does create a new xorg.conf.new file but I would like to see all the output of the Xorg -configure command but it just scrolls by too fast and I can't go back to see it. Hence this is why I'm trying to do the > . It seems to ignore the >.
how I can see what the command is doing?
I have installed opensuse 11.2 and then installed Kiwi-ltsp (Two network cards installed). Client system is booting from ltsp server using PXE boot method. View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got rid of pulseaudio because it breaks in so many different situations. I've switched to Alsa, and all of my sound is working except in mpd. It seems like I have to set audio_output in /etc/mpd.conf. Here is my config file:

I've seen in Evolution Calendar where you can have an audio alarm in addition to the pop-up and notification. For the life of me, I cannot find that now. I am Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Evolution 2.28.3 - the latest in the repository. I just can't find an option for audio alarms...

I've realized that when I'm in XBMC (which is admittedly the only place I watch movies) certain sounds like gunshots will be extremely louder than something like dialog. I have a Soundblaster Audigy 2 card and the motherboard has built-in sound, but ubuntu doesn't recognize either of them. The only hardware option I have in my sound preferences is for SPDIF, and thats the only thing that shows up in alsamixer as well.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 (I think, the latest anyway) on my gf's computer. Everything works great, except for the sound output. The volume control works, (both the buttons on the computer and inside Kubuntu) but there is no sound output whatsoever (not in vlc, system sound etc). Ive googled a little, and I've seen some tips about get it, right click in on sound settings in the panel, and choosing preferences, I don't seem to have that tab, however I've got a "show mixer window" where I the can adjust volume.
I've got 2 tabs here ; 'HDA ATI SB' and 'HDA ATI HDMI' I guess the first one is the one that is the ordinary output, the other if I connect a tv or something. I've also read something about 'alsa' and 'alsamix' I don't seem to have that one, and I've tried sudo apt- but I've haven't been able to find it. I dont know if it is of any importance, but it is the 64bit version of Kubuntu. I'm not sure about exactly what soundcard and driver I've got, but the computer (laptop) is a pretty new HP, and when I run:
