I have everything in 11.2 working awesome and loving this experience just wish I could get this card to work.I added the repository but it gives me an error saying there is no checksum and no certificate?Can I say ignore this and install the repository so I can get at the opensource drivers? Its the only thing I am lacking in getting done.

I have problems with ATI Drivers for my graphics HD4850. Opensource drivers work, but often lag mouse and other applications. Then I've installed Additional drivers, which are include in Ubuntu. It's good with mouse and other, but sometimes lag applications and moving windows. In CCSM I disabled Vsync and set refresh rate, but it's still lag on applications, moving windows is OK. What can I do now?
Is ATI Driver version from Additional drivers same as 11.4 from official AMD's webpage? If I will install drivers version 11.4 from AMD's page, will work good?

How can I solve problems with opensource drivers with mouse and applications lag?
For those of us who were stung last year by ATI's decision to drop support for <= R500 series cards from their closed source, or proprietary driver (known as the FGLRX driver), we are now forced to use the opensource ATI XORG driver. This is not as bad as it sounds, as in doing so, ATI has released a lot of the hardware specs on these older cards and the opensource driver has improved dramatically in the last year as a result.
Ubuntu includes both the ATI and the FGLRX driver install capacities in recent releases (since Intrepid(?)). If one can install the FGLRX driver, you should be able to do this by choosing System>Administration>Hardware Drivers and choosing to activate the ATI drivers; or you can manually install them using this guide: [URL]
However, if you have a card that is or below the R500 series (i.e. not R600+) DO NOT install the FGLRX drivers - you will break your X server (video display). If you don't know what series chipset you have, try the following:

These are fairly easy to remove (as described on the site); just remove the PPA from your Software Sources and downgrade the drivers.
Been working hard on trying to get my Radeon 5870 to run in Debian Lenny (x64). I've installed the xserver-radeon, radeonhd & ati packages through the synaptics manager, but my xorg config file is completely without information:

And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I verify in Intel site that my Intel'drivers are outdated, because Dell Suport is slow, so how do I update them in Opensuse?
Do I use Virtual Machine or try through Wine?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to test 12.1 M5 on my real hardware, so I have special for this purpose two additional partitions (sda2 (to install milestone) and sda3 (to store installation ISO files)). I am running my stable 11.4 with Grub on sda1.
I do not like to burn DVDs just for short test of one milestone, so I was used to download DVD ISO, to unpack it to sda3 partition with all its files, then I changed Grub to boot install Linux from sda3. Installation complains there is no DVD or CD, then I chose to force installation from hard disk and select sda3 partition and select root directory "/". As I was used to from 11.4 this will start installation as it would be started from DVD.
But I think the problem has appeared since 12.1, where I get message: No repository found. (on sda3 / ), so the installation does not start.
I know this is not official way to install openSuse, but it worked before, and it was fast and easy for me, to install from hard disk.
Where can I get repository to install cherokee on my new opensuse 11.3 ?

zypper info kdebase4 shows Version: 4.3.1. OpenSUSE is 11.2. What's different about those 2 repositories? They both appear to be the same. I'd like to get updates for KOffice. I'm using it for project management.
I have a new install of opensuse 11.2 with gnome as desktop & gdm as window manager. Login OK. I added the Gnome community repositories & packman & ran an update. Now, with gdm login gives just wallpaper & no desktop. If I change to xdm as window manager I can login OK. The installed version of gdm is gdm-2.28.2-1.3.i586.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased openSUSE 11.2 x64 on DVD from osdisc.com, as well as the 5 x64 repository DVD's. The base install went fine, but when I try to add thos's to my software repositories using yast they all have the same listed name, "repository" - I can change that to show "repository disk 1" etc, but when I go to install stuff and the software installer asks for "repository disk 1" I put that in the dvd drive, and it cannot recognise it, spits it out and asks for the same disk again...hmmmm. Should I not change the default name that comes up when each DVD is added to the list? If I leave them unchanged will I be told which is the correct disk to insert, remembering that in the list they all have the same name

I have downloaded openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586-iso and verified the file using MD5. I am currently running windows XP (SP1) on a Fujitsu Siemens V1000 laptop andI am trying to install linux from my hard drive and not from a DVD drive.
The path to the downloaded file on my windows partition is: e:/OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso I have initialised installation and selected sda6 as the partition where the sourcefile is located. and when prompted for the directory, I typed " /OpenSuse/openSUSE-11.2DVD-i586.iso " The installations then proceeded through to "Initialising Package Manager" upon which I get the following message:
" Unable to create repository from url' iso:/? iso=openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso&url=hd:/OpenSuse?device=/dev/sda6"

There is an option to try again at which point an additional dialog box appears and I have the opportunity to change things. Other than that, the only option is to cancel and terminate the installation. I've tried the process around 3 times, but if I'm doing the same thing then not surprising I'm getting the same result.

I am trying to add a few additional repositories to SLES 11 64-bit but I can't seem to get them added. I am trying to add Index of /repositories/server:/database but I get the error "Unable to create repository from [URL]... Try again? So I browsed that repository and then tried to add Index of /repositories/server:/database/SLE_11 but still got the error message with this new URL listed instead. I tried just the 11.2 repository and it worked - Index of /distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse.
How or what do I need to do in order to get Index of /repositories/server:/database added to my repository?

What happens if an install is made and a particular package has a dependency, where no version is specified? Would all repositories of the same pri be searched and the newest RPM version be installed. OR Would simply once the RPM is found in one of those pri's simply be taken and no further searching made. So summarized when all repositories are the same priority, is the first found RPM taken or the RPM with the latest version?

For example, xorg-x11-driver-video.changes was last updated 2 weeks ago, when clearly the package has changed?
I am having a problem since upgrading from OPENSuSE 11.2 to 11.4 (both 64bit). The problem goes back to some issue with repositories which is what "forced" me into an 11.4 upgrade.
So, upon completing the install, and every time I run YAST to do updates, I get a message about this: "Error refreshing service ATI Repository (http://www.ati.com/suse/11.2):" How is it that this repository entry survived the upgrade install? Ok, forget that, how do I get rid of this when I can't get it to display in the list of repositories I have?
What is even worse, I don't have ATI drivers on this system (I had uninstalled them a year ago, pulled in the NVidea, esw, etc.) as I had put an NVidea adapter card in, in place of the ATI built in (on the MOBO). Somehow that dropping of the repository didn't work, and now I have this thing in limbo? ps. I can't figure out what string to search in my file system or I'd have deleted the sucker last night during the install manual reboot.

According of technical support of this repository yast is not able to handle HTTPS repository and as result yast going to point error of download failed. There are no other repository available than HTTPS.
It would be nice if someone have ideas about that? Is it really bug or is it have work around available? Idea was try with some other HTTPS repository for random software but i did not find any from the Internet.
