OpenSUSE Hardware :: Get 11.3 To Recognize Onboard Webcam?

Aug 3, 2010

I totally wiped out my OSX on my Imacs, in favor of OpenSuse 11.3, and right now, while 11.3 recognizes almost everything, I am searching for a command that lists the hardware available on my Imacs. Is there such a command available, and what is it. I am trying to get 11.3 to recognize my onboard webcam.

Ubuntu :: Onboard Nic Plug Broken Pci Nic Inserted Need 2 Remove Onboard

Sep 8, 2010

I just built a computer and the onboard nic pluggin is loose and won't register or connect right... so I had to put another nic card in pci to connect to wired network for internet. Problem now is its delaying something fierce... i'm thinking if i can manage to uninstall or disable the onboard nic maybe things would work better... problem is i wouldn't know how to do it... I know hardware is connected via a document somewhere in the file system... if I were to delete the file would that disable the nic or would it just reinstall itself on the next boot?

Ubuntu :: DELL 1536 - 32 Bit Or 64 Bit - Recognize The 1920x1200 Screen - Webcam - HDMI

Jan 28, 2010

I ordered a DELL studio 1536 with AMD turion rm-74 and vista preinstalled. Although it is still in production, I plan to install ubuntu on it and install an xp/vista guest in virtualbox. However, I am wondering if I can do it. There are many questions, partial answers are welcome:

1- Can ubuntu (32 bit or 64 bit) recognize the 1920x1200 screen, webcam, HDMI etc etc? any tricks if it can?

2- Is it possible that I ghost the vista so that I can restore it later in the virtualbox? and can I upgrade it to win7 from vbox? DELL says it is eligible for free upgrade, a very weird option nowadays.

3- To what extend will the guest OS control the machine? For example, is it possible to output a website video (e.g. live TV in bloomberg.com which is only available in windows) from the guest to the HDMI?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Broke Gf's - Unable To Recognize That Builtin Webcam Exists Anymore

Jun 26, 2010

So the title pretty much sums it up. She is running a pangolin performance which came with lucid while I am running a pangolin performance which came with karmic and i upgraded to lucid (bought before her). For some reason hulu always worked for me, so I was trying to fix it on her computer too, but somehow one of the commands I told her to run made her computer not be able to recognize that her built in webcam exists anymore.

The reason that this is so hard is that I don't remember which commands I told her to run, but one of them was the instructions from post #5 on this page: [URL]. But I don't know how messing with flash stuff could have possibly screwed up her computer detecting her webcam. The drivers are definitely installed for webcam, however when she 'locate uvcvideo' it tells her that permission is denied, so the problem might be that her computer isn't giving her the permission to access the webcam drivers to use the webcam, just an idea.

OpenSUSE Install :: Set Up A 4x750GB OnBoard RAID 10?

May 17, 2010

Now that I set up a 4x750GB OnBoard RAID 10, I'd like to install my 11.2 Suse (w/ GRUB dual boot)from BIOS, I've partitioned my HDD so I have:- Array1 = 30GB HTFS, 30GB XFS, 30GB Solaris, then extended part. for all (each OS) swap, temp, etc ...- Array2 = 30 GB HTFS (DMy Documents); 30 GB (/home); 30 GB (unformated) and then a big part for game install and VMware partition (Win98 for my old games, winXP32, etc ...)As a (sad) matter of fact, instal WinXP64 and/or Vista64 works perfectly. I see the array as partitioned by BIOS, and everything works.

But I can't have my 11.2 (64) SUSE installed on the drive, I have -for now- a VMware for it running ... on Windows :s(while I'd prefere the opposit)When I start w/ Suse11.2 DVD (downloaded), it says it can't install as there is NO HDD !!ok, fine, I plug back a PATA HDD, then I start the install, then I move the partition to the SATABUT, even so, I can't start the Suse ...I then lauch the repare/recovery on the install DVD, but it says that there is no root partition, no SUSE partition to fixe

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Microphone Config With Onboard Sound?

Apr 12, 2011

I have the MCP55 HD Audio on board. Is there a way to configure the mic to mono, 16 bit with 16000Hz sampling as a system input. The signal will be read by the installed program pocketsphinx_continuous.

This is not to make recordings. I can make these settings in KRecord/KDE3. This is for the system input. The mic works with the program and KRecord.

Or must a compatible sound card be installed?

OpenSUSE :: How To Recognize Mounted Devices

Apr 13, 2010

I have recently mounted my iPod Touch using ifuse, and it works with gtkpod and I'm very pleased about that! However, I'm interested in finding out how openSUSE recognises what devices are mounted? Because the device manager in the task bar doesn't recognise that it's mounted... Dolphin doesn't recognise it and neither does Amarok. Only gtkpod, which is good, but I want other applications to recognise it. Do I need to mount it in a specific location? Currently it's at /mnt/iPhone. Or do I need something in fstab (I'm just guessing here).

OpenSUSE :: Wine Does Not Recognize Enter Key?

Sep 30, 2010

I had a small english-greek dictionary working fine with wine until the day I upgraded from 11.2 to latest opensuse version. Since then the enter key no more works (rest keys work fine). So I always have to write the word I am searching for and instead of pressing enter key use my mouse to press the find button.

It is this kind of problem that really I do not know how to try to find a solution for it. There is no error message or warning message. I have not changed anything on my computer (it is the same program running). I tried to launch winecfg but everything looks the same it was before.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 Does Not Recognize ESATA Drive

Jul 31, 2010

I have a working installation of OpenSuse 11.2 on a 300GB eSATA drive, /dev/sdb. Note: /dev/sdb is actually an IDE drive with an eSata adapter since my mother board only has one IDE ribbon input that I use for /dev/sda and the DVDRW drive.I have a 200GB IDE drive, /dev/sda that I use as a data drive. Both drives are accessible to 11.2 and in use.I installed OpenSuse 11.3 on /dev/sda in partition sda1. The same results occur with 32 bit and 64 bit distribution. I have grub for 11.3 on the the sda1 partition and chainload to it from 11.2 grub.

The installed 11.3 system will not recognize the second drive /dev/sdb or any of its partitions. It does not show up on /var/log/messages -- it does not appear to exist.I believe this problem is with 11.3 because 11.2 recognizes both disks. Perhaps it is support of eSATA drives or the IDE to eSATA adapter that has regressed?
