I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

using ubuntu 10.04 I have followed the instructions here: [URL] for installing the Amazon downloader. I was able to purchase and download the .amz file from amazon, but my system doesn't know what to do with it. IOWS, if I click on the .amz file from the file browser or from firefox, it is opened as a binary file in gedit. Unfortunately, I can't locate where the downloader executable was installed and don't know how to make a file association.

I have a Slackware 13.1 install on a Desktop PC with wireless keyboard and mouse. When I log in it takes a very long time(5 minutes or so) before the keyboard starts working, and f.ex. it's possible to do Alt-F2. The mouse also works slowly in this period, but it is working.
I'm running KDE 4.5.2 on Slackware current, but did have the same problems with the fresh install and KDE4.5.1. When the lag period is over everything is working as normal. I have turned of strigi indexing and could not find anything special when running "ps ax" or "top".

I want to install Linux on my laptop. I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu. It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.

I recently switched to Ubuntu 10.10 from WinXP and notice that the USB Keyboard is not working at all. The keyboard works fine with other systems, so there isn't any hardware issue with the Keyboard. I notice that the Keyboard does not even get powered when I plug it into the USB port. The USB ports work fine with other devices.

I am not able to access Amazon's Look Inside - the facility to inspect a few pages of books. (I have never been able to do this.) I have tried both at work (via a direct connection to a high-speed backbone) and at home (via Sky ISP). I can see the cover of the book but nothing beyond that - it says the page has expired or is invalid. But using Firefox on WinXP, I can access Look Inside happily both at home and at work.
Does anyone else have this problem with Ubuntu? Amazon's technical people just sent me a load of flannel blaming my ISP, my software, etc. They say no one else has raised this.
If somebody could try it and let me know, I'd be grateful for the results. Am I missing a plug-in?
Lucid + Firefox 3.6.3 on both sites

I wanted some input on chronic problems with Ubuntu:
1. Why does wireless almost never work right on Ubuntu?
2. Why, when Ubuntu just decides to turn off my wireless card, can I not just turn it back on?
3. Why do tar balls almost never unpack right?
4. Why are printer drivers so buggy?
5. Why do my MP3 players and digital cameras not work with Ubuntu?
I spent 3 hours last night trying to unpack a tar.bz2 file so I can run my Ralink network card. It worked fine until my son unplugged my computer. Now my card is disconnected and it will not reconnect. When I check forums no one has a simple answer for something as simple as turning a network card back on. On my Apple, it's simple: click my wireless icon and hit "on." tell me an easy way to just turn my wireless card back on, it would renew my faith a little in Linux.

it just happened a few days ago. When i log in i pres ''Num lock'' and i type the password but after loging in the numeric keyboard won't work. I tried num lock several times but it doesn't work. It works in windows 7 so it's not a hardware problem. I hate using the number keys on the alphanumeric keyboard.

Mod4' is my 'Super' key. I have assigned <Mod4>Tab to the 'launch panel main menu' shortcut command in the Ubuntu 10.10 keyboard shortcuts settings. However, whenever I press <Mod4>+Tab, my windows seem to switch as if I were pressing Alt+Tab. How can I disable this other unnecessary action for <Mod4>+Tab?

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

Keyboard repeat doesn't seem to work correctly on my system (Xubuntu, 9.10). Holding a key down ends in the repeat function stopping after a certain point, and at different times each time. Also, editing text fields is tricky because the field currently highlighted reverts to its previous value if I don't hit enter fast enough (I have to type new values into a notepad and copy and paste it quickly into the field).

Windows crapped out on me (not surprisingly) and I am using Ubuntu to transfer all of my files to an external hard drive. However, when the computer loads the Ubuntu disk I get to a language selection menu, but my keyboard doesn't work. It won't let me make any sort of selection, and the 30 second timer eventually times out and my system just restarts and the process starts all over again.
I've tried plugging my keyboard in to all of the different USB ports on my computer, but still nothing. The strange thing is that the keyboard works just fine when I changed the BIOS settings to boot from the cd-rom... it just doesn't work when Ubuntu is ready to run..

I'm unsure as to how I can use keyboard shorts to close the current tab or to switch between tabs. Does anyone know them or know any other keyboard-based options for using the terminal in AWN? I can open a new tab by ctrl+shift+t but ctrl+shift+w doesn't work and i've never known how to switch between tabs
