View 9 RepliesJust got a Dell Inspiron N5030. Internal speaker works. I can make a skype test service with internal speaker device. When I plugged the head phone, the head phone does not work. No problem with the head phone indeed. I have searched the forum for N5030 key word. But never able to find one.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
- the Lucid Lynx - released in April 2010 and supported until April 2013.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! Additionally, I can't figure out how to disable my Touchpad's Tap to Click funtionality, which must be done if I'm to effectively use my current KDE installation of openSUSE
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE since vesrion 10.x and I never have problems to install latest version of OpenSUSE. Last week end I decided to upgrade my Laptop (Dell Inspiron 1520) from version 11.3 to version 11.4. I performed clean install (I have separate home partition so I have no problems with my info) but when setup goes to last step "Prepare first time automatic configuration" (top progress bar shows 3% and bottom progress bar shows 10%) my laptop hangs and Capslock Led and the led next to it start blinking together. I tried 3 times and every time the same thing happened. After that I installed 11.3 again (without problems) and then I tried to run upgrade to 11.4 from 11.4 DVD. Upgrade finished successfully but when openSUSE tries to start my laptop hangs in the same way as before . So I decided to go back to 11.3 and I did it without problems even I've upgraded KDE to 4.6 successfully.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI will like to know how to install ethernet drivers dell inspiron N4010 on opensuse 11.3, when I go to YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings and then I have a Warning message "Network is currently controlled by NetworkManager and its settings cannot be edited by Yast. Then I click on OK, I go to Global Options and i click on Traditional Method with ifup, and then I go to Overview and I have this information:

This is my first time using openSuse, I previously install Ubuntu and I had some similar problem with the internet I hope fix that problem as soon as possible and keep using openSuse. Other thing is that I don't have any internet connection with this laptop even wire or wireless connection.
I just want to report that I managed to get WLAN running on my Dell Mini 10 (Inspiron 1012) with OpenSuse 11.3 KDE.
This one contains a Broadcom 4312 WLAN card
Code:
lspci -vnn|grep Broadcom
07:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
0b:00.0 Multimedia controller [0480]: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:1615]
Subsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:1615]
I just installed the broadcom-wl and broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop packages from the packman repository. Then there is a new entry in the bootmanager menu. Using that one, WLAN works fine.By the way: Can somebody explain me the difference between the broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop, broadcom-wl-kmp-default, broadcom-wl-kmp-pae, broadcom-wl-kmp-xen packages? I did not find any documentation about that.
I installed openSUSE 11.4 in my laptop as dual boot. But wireless drivers are not working. Please give a suggestion to work wifi.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm sure someone has had this problem before. On the Dell Inspiron N4010 (and many other laptops, I've discovered) there is for some idiotic reason no LED indicator for the Caps Lock state. Dell provides a little Windows 7 program that will put up a pop-up on the screen, but that is singularly useless to me when I'm running openSUSE or Ubuntu on this machine. Does anyone know of a KDE 4 widget that will notify me when caps-lock is on?
I did find another thread on this issue here: [url] But the "kkeyled" program seems to have not been updated since KDE 3.4 and I got a package dependency error when I tried to install it.
Another option, I suppose, would be if anyone knows how to disable the Caps Lock key altogether....
I'm running 11.4 gnome and need to be able to disable the touchpad on my laptop. I always use an external mouse.

I just completed installing openSuse 11.1 I followed the detailed steps given in Getting Your Wireless to Work When I try to scan for available APs in the vicinity, I get the following error.

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.
I have loaded the latest version of opensuse and I have everything working but I cannot connect to my wireless WPA2 network. I have downloaded the bcm43xx firmware using the method /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware I then restarted the network. The computer will now read the network card and will find networks but I cannot get it to connect at all. At first it would connect using ifup in yast but would disconnect after a few seconds. It would never connect through NM. I have a usb network card that works just fine. I am lost as to how to fix this problem.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI have a 4-5 year old dell inspiron 600m that i have been running on linux ubuntu for the past 2-3 years. Last week i took it apart to paint the casing, got that done and since I put it back together it has a tendency to become very hot. When i got it back together i also installed a good number of updates.
Also, I can no longer stream videos/ music from the internet. I am not sure if i messed something up when i was putting it back together, or if something in these updates has caused a problem. I have always been able to stream on previous installs, and i cannot honestly remember if i could before i took it apart. i am trying to watch a video on ..... and the cpu usage went clear to 100% and the cpu temperature went up to 99 Deg Celcius. The audio and video didnt even match but for a second or two at the very beginning. When the computer is sitting idle browsing the internet the cpu usage is very low, maybe avg. 15% and the temp drops to 55deg C fairly quickly.
I am not able to adjust the brightness in ubuntu. I am using gnome and ubuntu 10.04. I can see some folders DD01, DD02 in /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/ with value as given below. cat /proc/acpi/video/GFX0/DD01/brightness <not supported>

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought a basic Dell Inspiron 570 Desktop, and installed Ubuntu 9.10, and found that the wired internet won't connect. I've checked the wire, and confirmed that an Ubuntu laptop can get a wired connection using it, but the new Inspiron doesn't do anything.
The "Network Connections" dialog shows a "Wired connection 1" item, but Network Manager refuses to connect to it. ifconfig only shows the lo interface.
How can I get this wired interface working? Please, this is very frustrating. I can only assume it's some sort of driver issue (which seems rare with the wired connection), but I can't even run an update since I don't have an internet connection.
