Jul 24, 2010Sometimes, after update, it looks like in repo are old packages but version numbers are higher than previous. It looks like there are two 'packagers' and one of them makes packages from older builds.Currently it is that old build.Look at system load plasmoid:
In newer version, on this pop-up view, is visible icon and also colors on plasmoid are brighter.

Feb 16, 2010Online Updated prompted me today to import a new key that was created today for the KDE4 Community repository (SUSE 11.2). How can I verify the key's signature? How can I make sure that the repository has not been hacked and the key I am going to import is the correct key. I was expecting a note somewhere on the openSUSE website about the new key or a list of currently valid keys, where I can compare the signatures. But I could not find such a list or so.

Dec 20, 2010I just learned that warsow 0.6 is out, and went to see if it was available in the ubuntu software center yet, as opposed to going and downloading and installing it manually from the warsow website. The ubuntu repo's still have version 0.5, and at the bottom of the page it says:
"Updates: Canonical does not provide updates for Warsow. Some updates may be provided by the Ubuntu community."
So if I wanted to 'update' this item in the repo's for the better of the community what would that entail?

If I disable the repo-non-oss repository the update works fine. The URL I have for the repo-non-oss repository is:

This has been going on for over a week. Do I need to use a different URL for the non-oss repository? I live in New York, United States.

Mar 28, 2011I have a thinkpad T510i with fingerprint reader. The device is detected by opensuse 11.4. I have enabled the reader in yast, went to the user management, selected my user and started the fingerprint plugin to read my fingerprint. The readers green led is on and it asks me to move my index over the reader. When I do this, it says registering fingerprint done, do it again, Sucessful prints: 1 (the equivalent in german). Ok, I do it again and the message changes to Successful prints: 2 and so on until it says fingerprint was sucessfully registered. And now? This is all i get:

I cant find fingerprints anywhere on the disk. Where should they be located? What names would the files have?

OpenSUSE :: Removing A Repo - Error "can't Find The Data For The 'problem' Repo"
Nov 20, 2010I wasn't paying proper attention when adding a repo to yast and need to find the file were the info is saved to delete this. The problem is that whenever i use yast it comes up with an error code saying that it can't find the data for the 'problem' repo. Have tried zypper rm but that comes up with a similar error advising that the data is in a format that was not expected. My thinking is to track the file were the yast repo source details are saved, delete this and then just add the repos that i use back.

Jan 30, 2010After upgrading to 11.2 I'm trying to install required codecs for restricted formats and following the advice that is given, and starting at "Step 1", making sure that I have at least the OSS, non-OSS etc. repos.
For some reason, when I try to add community repositories through yast, I get a Warning pop-up, stating "Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined".
Am I doing something wrong? If tried about 20 times...and so far no luck.

The installation shouldn't be a problem but I wonder how I can upgrade to kde 4.4, since opensuse 11.2 will have 4.3 by default? I saw in the documentation to add these repos:

Sep 13, 2010I consider myself a linux noob. The thing about this is, I have played around with various distros of linux over many years. Eventually I get frustrated at how ridiculous something as simple as text editing can be. I'm having a problem starting mysql. I have already ran the install script afer downloading mysql community server from yast.
what I need to do to start the server. I tried to issue rcmysql start, but it says "The absolute path to 'rcmysql' is 'usr/sbin/rcmysql' so running it may require superuser privileges. So i say SUDO rcmysql, enter password and again same message.

Jul 11, 2011I work behind an ISA proxy. I have to authenticat with domainuser. When defining proxy settings with yast, I cannot put "domainuser" in the URL, so I add it in text mode in /etc/sysconfig/proxy for all protocols. Example: [URL] Then I have to logout/login in order yast to work.
BUT:
- I cannot add communauty repositories.
- zypper fails
In order to make zypper and adding repositories to work, I have to suppress one of the two back-slash like:

OpenSUSE Install :: Change Yast Community From 11.3 To 11.4 For Repositories?
Mar 20, 2011I did zypper dup to move from 11.3 to 11.4. Almost everything works fine. But when I try to add community repositories I get the 11.3 repositories, not the 11.4 repositories. So there must be a .conf or .rc file somewhere telling yast that we're on 11.3 when in fact we are on 11.4. How/where can I change that? And while we're at it, how do I load a Factory repository? They do not appear in the list of Community" repositories.

Sep 11, 2010Having assorted problems accessing v11.3 update repositories. The issue appears to be either with IPv6 or my ancient 2Wire 1000SW router.
Last week, I replaced Ubuntu with openSUSE on this Dell laptop. When I couldn't access repositories initially, I turned off IPv6 in YaST, with no luck. Turning off IPv6 in Firefox did allow me to see opensuse.org and other otherwise unavailable sites.
I edited my primary/default repo list in YaST with IP addresses replacing DNS names with great success -- except for the non-OSS repo, which YaST couldn't find. Anyway, I had a successful update!
Now adding repos to the default set is the problem. When going to Add > Community Repositories, I get the "Unable to download list of repositories or no repositories defined" message. Trying to add Packman.unixheads.com either with named URL or with IP address doesn't work either (it was curious that when using the IP address, YaST still says it can't find Packman.unixheads.com).
When I read that Packman was converting all its servers to IPv6, just for grins I went back to YaST and Enabled IPv6 again. After a reboot, I tried adding Packman again. No luck, but suddenly editing the default openSUSE non-oss repo and entering the IP address WORKED!
One more data point: I tried using a few 1-click installations from the collection at opensuse-community.org. Most failed, but for some reason, I could add the NVIDIA repository!
While I think the simple solution is probably replacing the router I've had since 2004, I'd like to avoid that particular expense right now. I'll note that I never had a problem accessing (K)Ubuntu repositories.
I'm wondering if there's a zypper or YaST config file I can edit that might allow access to the Community Repo list (though the Packman experience is somewhat discouraging in that regard). Is there something weird going on with MirrorBrain too? Figuring out how to handle IPv6 might be relevant here too.

Sep 10, 2009currently using, openSuSE v11.1 kde v4.3.1.i have, bootsplash, splashy, kdm4 installed.im trying to install the 'fingerprint' theme upon boot.I have autologin enabled for kde. I've tried to install it via splashy, 'splashy_config --set-theme fingerprint' and it works when i do 'splashy --test fingerprint' but when i reboot it doesnt implement it. same old green theme.have also tried to install it through 'login manager' it says its loaded but again, reboot and same default opensuse green logos. ive been following instruction from the theme located at kde-look.org. it looks fantastic.

Mar 26, 2011i'm attempting to know and understand fedora more and i will spend probably the next month pouring through all the forums and documents to answer more of my own questions. but there's quite a bit here, so i'd thought i'd ask some noob questions to get me started a little.
ive installed fedora 14 64bit and chosen only kde as the desktop. i selected an extra 2 repos besides the default, fedora 14 -x86_64 and fedora 14-x86_64 -updates. i believe this kernel is installed: 2.6.35.11-83
1. i can only see the 2 extra repo's as being "checked" in kpackagekit, shouldn't i see the default repo also ?
2. i dont have an applet in the system tray indicating the system is up to date, does fedora have this by default ? also after a clean install i ran yum check-update and yum update but the message sayes: "no packages marked for update". i'm not sure if the system is auto-updated during install or not, but with other distros iv tried there is always atleast a few updates needing to be done after install.
3. is kpackagekit the fedora gui package manager ? i dont see any others.
4. i want to upgrade to nvidia drivers, but i think i am missing a non-free repo or something. when i enter: yum install kmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 i get messages stating "no package" i get the same message with yum install nvidia-settings.i also tried this: LANG=C yum --enablerepo=rpmfusion-nonfree info akmod-nvidia but it sayes repo not found.
OpenSUSE :: Wierd Bug In 11.2 64 Bit, KDE4?
Apr 28, 2010I'm experiencing a wierd bug. Been having it for some time now. I haven't posted about it before since its only been annoying, but not really setting me back. And I have trouble defining and explaining the bug. Today it crossed the line into actual annoyance.
The bug occurs when I'm writing, using the keyboard on my laptop. Both when I write in browsers, like when writing this post, and when I write in openoffice. So its not limited to one program. In webbrowsers what happens is that all of a sudden the browser loads the previous page in the tab. Like I told it to go one step back. In OpenOffice something similar happens. The curser jumps up in the document.
I used to have this bug when touchpad-tapping was enabled. I have a habit of drumming my thumbs on the touchpad when typing. Therefore I've disabled tapping on the touchpad. The bug is reocurring, however I have not found a way to reproduce it. It might be a key combination I accidentally hit when typing away, but I'm not sure.
