I have the "publishing" repo enabled. Today I received an update to texlive (to version 2010-37.1) and almost all the documentclasses disappeared! Not even the article documentclass is available!
EDIT: I forgot to mention I'm using openSUSE 11.2 64 bits.
I am running texlive-20100722. To build it I have used a modified version ot Robby's SlackBuild. Now I need to update the pgf package. The package manager for texlive is tlmgr. However, when I issue:

Some googling revealed that texlive.tlpdb is the installation�s TEX Live Package Database. However, in my installation is is not present.
I've recently had to update my own package blah.cls in the texlive distro on Ubuntu. I duly put it in /usr/local/share/texmf and ran texhash and mktexlsr (the latter just in case). The database has updated: checked with kpsewhich.
Now the problem: I'm able to compile my Latex file using that package blah.cls only when I run latex (or Kile, or gedit) in sudo mode. When I run it with no sudo, the error is "can't find the package blah.cls" Obviously other files compile nicely, sudo or no sudo.
I have a dual boot system: windows xp and suse(10.2). I had to reinstall windows(again). When I tried to use the installer, it kept reseting my partitions to 500gb+ to linux. Nothing I tried would let me put it to the way it was(50gb to linux). Repair install failed. Update wouldn't work. MSwindows in the grub boot menu disappeared. I tried reinstalling suse. The installer blocked any attempt by me to put the partitions back to normal. How do reset the windows and linux partitions(850gb windows, 50gb to suse linux)?

I am creating a latex document (in English) where I want to write some Sanskrit words in Devanagari script. In my debian-5.0.4 OS where I have texlive-latex3 I did it by installing a package called latex-sanskrit. Is there any such package for opensuse-11.2 and which repository contains it? It will be preferable if it can be installed by yast2.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu 10.04 just after the first release was available.I configured everything - including my printers - and all was working 100% perfectly. Last friday (or perhaps thursday) I did the first update (it was big, ~60megs), and since then I have lost my printers. They are no longer listed on the "Printers" information panel.In fact, I can no longer add printers (the option is grayed out). In fact, the only option I can select is the connect to server. If I try local, I get the error that the server cannot be found.
EDIT: the original printers are networked printers, accessed via an IP address.
After having a bunch of trouble getting sound to work with 9.10, I finally got a system. After each linux kernel upgrade, I would just need to upgrade Alsa back to the latest version to get it working again.
A couple days ago, I noticed new kernel headers in the update package and was prepared to upgrade Alsa again. However, today when I went to do the upgrade I find that my soundcards are no longer available!
What can I do to get sound working again?

Running 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10, just went through update manager (today, April 30, 2010) and downloaded and installed a bunch of stuff. Then after rebooting, no mouse pointer at all.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm using the control key to locate my mouse pointer and that is very slow and annoying.
Was it something I downloaded?
I have a huawei e230 modem that used to work pretty good until this week. It has always been much slower on linux than windows but I am not complaining because windows keep disconnecting ever hour or so, while linux can stay connected over night without problem. The modem is still recognized but when I try to connect it suddenly disappears.

View 5 Replies View Relatedcompiling texlive2009 from slackbuilds.org with xindy on 13.1. I need xindy for my documents so I had no option but to solve the issue. I turned out that I had to remove clisp, install libsigsegv with the option "--enable-shared", then build clisp without libsigsegv (the stock clisp ships with libsigsegv built in), and then texlive2009 compiles ok.Maybe it would be better if Slackware shipped with libsigsegv compiled with shared libraries? xindy is really important for non latin alphabets.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have come to rely on pdftk, which has disappeared in opensuse 11.2I tried just cloning the package from 11.1 into factory & 11.2 in OBS, which didn't work. I tried tracking that down and got bogged down in a maze of dependancies and ultimately some incompatibility with the latest g++ or gcj which I failed to figure out.I see the errors in the build log, I just don't see what's wrong with the code, especially since it builds fine on 11.1. It looks like maybe it was always technically incorrect code, but only now gcj or g++ refuses to accept it. But I can't tell what's actually wrong with it. And the home site hasn't been updated in 3 years so no luck there.Has anyone managed to build pdftk on 11.2 ?Or, is there some other package that can do what pdftk does ? (non-interactive pdf manipulation)I see debian and ubuntu still have it in their latest versions. So next I'm going to try just importing a .deb with alien or maybe try porting their patch set over to my OBS package.

I just recently upgraded Karmic 32 bit to 64 bit (as I wish to have the full functionality of my 64 bit system). Unfortunately, I now cannot seem to install Thunderbird or TeXlive.When I go to the terminal and try to install this is what I get:

I installed Wine and several menu entries were created in my GNOME applications menu. However, when I went to change the menu items later, (Through [Edit Menus]), the Wine Menu folder was replaced with the 'Other' folder, and the layout of the Wine Menu was destroyed.

View 6 Replies View RelatedLast week my parents' PC conked out the day before I was due to leave the country, so in the few hours I had to try and knock up a solution, I set up a very old second machine in the house running openSUSE 11.3 with XFCE. I'd previously replaced the default login display manager with GDM, which evidently has various bugs. Aside from the cursor continually spinning around showing as busy, when I added a new user account for my parents, the login box showed two entries under my own name. It's only on hovering the mouse over the latter entry that my parents' username shows up. Anyway, I had to explain this and a million other quirks to them in a rush, but the system was all working and they managed to get me an email from it the following day.
Since then, however, when they reach the login screen they say there is just an image of a computer monitor, with the OS version and domain, but no usernames to choose from or other options anywhere, and hence they can find no way to login. I have no remote access to the machine and can only talk over the phone. I suggested a few key combos to see if anything happened, and they booted once in failsafe mode, but no luck.
What could have happened? Is there a key that would show the users again? Perhaps there's a way to get to a console login, but could they get back to a GUI easily after that? Unfortunately my parents are really not adept at these things and every instruction I give has to be repeated endlessly after which they usually get it wrong a couple of times first, so trying to do anything administrative or more clever than a few key presses or mouse clicks is going to be nigh on impossible. Running a live CD would be likely out of the question since they'd need to change the BIOS boot order first.
After messing up with gnome3-branding(gfxboot),I removed itow grub is back to minimal.There is no graphical bootloader anymore.I tried reinstalling opensuse-brandingt it says "message not found"

I read somewhere that 'nomodeset' should be added to the kernel line in menu.lst, so I added this manually. However, on rebotting my bootsplash had disappeared. I've since read that I actually didn't need this setting with the repo version of the driver so I removed it, but still no bootsplash.

I (or rather, the Yum auto-update) try to update the TeXLive on my FC11 machine but the update fails due to 'missing dependency', spitting out
Missing Dependency: libpoppler.so.4()(64bit) is needed by package texlive-2007-46.fc11.x86_64 (updates)
And strangely now (perhaps for a combination of reasons) I cannot use my auctex. I would like to finish this update anyway, and tried to find libpoppler.so.4 separately, which I haven't yet been able to locate. Poppler itself is installed and updated, and I do see libpoppler.so.5 in my system. So where would I find libpoppler.so.4 on its own? Or should I perhaps downgrade poppler?
Is there anyone whose residence is in Hong Kong? I am trying to installing TeXLive 2010 through web-installation, and the source is in [URL] but the download speed is too low, sometime it even quit installation. Can I use some command to force the installing program to use another source?

When I try to compile normally, I get errors that it can't find certain .sty files, which are part of the standard packages that get installed. (amsmath.sty, etc... graphics.sty, xspace.sty). If I run latex with sudo, the problem disappears. I guess this has something to do with file read permissions. So I found where all of these files are located and did:

sudo chmod -R 777 /usr/share/texmf-texlive/
This did not solve the problem. Does anybody happen to know what the issue is here? I have done some searching around and haven't found anything useful that doesn't involve copying all the files somewhere else.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI know, why did I uninstall Open Office. Well I am running 11.3 with KDE 4. I did a clean install in December 2010. This is the first time I have updated an old database. I updated the database and then opened a new writer document and pressed F4. OpenOffice closed.
When I recovered the documents I tried F4 again and it closed. So I looked on this forum and found this: OpenOffice crash if I view database Post #8 seems to have the problems solved. So I went to YAST and unticked OpenOffice. I then went to OpenOffice.org and after reading the information about distributions own packages. Also realising that it was a tar.gz, I got cold feet and decided against installing from OpenOffice.org.
I went back to YAST and ticked OpenOffice, but it does not appear to be there anymore. I tried the start icon (bottom left corner), but it is not in there. I have tried opening a document, but it was opened with Okular. I think I have not ticked a box I should have. OpenOffice has a lot of entries in YAST, how do I capture the information so I can show it here? Or do I need to take several screenshots.
