OpenSUSE :: 11.4 Gnome Visual Artifacts In Buttons

Mar 13, 2011

I recently upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4 using the "zypper dup"-method, because I have made good experiences with that approach with my last upgrade. However I have some strange visual artifacts throughout the system now. When a button is in its pushed state, then at the left and top edge, where normally a drop-shadow would be drawn, is a white bar, as shown in the picture below. This also applies to progress-bars (for example when starting eclipse but also for all other applications)Also the systems feels slower than usual when switching between applications. Can't tell if this is important, but I have a Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M graphics card with the latest driver (version 260.19.44).

OpenSUSE :: Visual Artifacts Added To Curser - Icons And Backgrounds In KDE And Gnome

Mar 20, 2011

With the installation of 11.4, my video driver changed over to the nouveau driver from the proprietary nVidia driver. Now I get a grid of vertical lines following my curser in both KDE and Gnome, a similar grid over icons and as background fill in KDE. In KDE the grid lines appear over icons within application windows. Is anyone else seeing these? Or, not seeing them while using the nVidia driver?

OS: openSuse 11.4
CPU: AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz (Socket A)
GPU: nVidia Geforce 7300 GT

Ubuntu :: Artifacts Left On Desktop After Switching To Awm Then Back To Gnome

Aug 13, 2010

I recently tried out the awm version of the desktop environment. When I switched back to the Gnome desktop, I found a couple of titlebar-like artifacts left on the desktop.I did some experimenting, using System Monitor and the Kill xxxx command and managed to rid myself of one of the artifacts. The remaining artifact can be taken care of by using kill xxxx comand for the gtk-window-decorator but, this basically renders window buttons useless after the command is issued.

I think I had a couple applications running at startup in Gnome desktop before I switched to awm, and they didn't start at startup when I returned to Gnome desktop, but the titlebar-like artifacts did.Is there a way to reset the state of the gtk-window-decorator in a manner that is less destructive, and which allows my desktop to be clear of this artifact?

(The blueish theme is Azenis, the default looking one is well, the default theme.)

Fedora :: Minimize Resize Close Buttons Window 15 Gnome 3 Gconf 2

Jun 4, 2011

No where are how enable get back minimize resize close buttons windows top tab Fedora 15 Gnome3 gconf2

There is a question about this in this thread but the thread title did not have any of the above words in it and since most "new" folks don't think to use the "posts" option, I thought I'd make a new titled post.

This seems to be a big irritant of a lot of people around the net with Gnome 3 so I'm going to confirm what other people have said about how to fix the situation.

In "add software" enter this search term:

gconf

You will see quite a few returns, you should click the following:

A process-transparent configuration system (G Conf1-2.3 yada yada)

Graphical Gconf untilities (it may be pulled with the above however).

Install it/them.

One can then type "Gconf2" in terminal and it will open but then close when the terminal is closed, or one can go to activities/applications/tweak advanced settings( the symbol will be the same as for settings in Gnome 3).

In the "Shell" button one will see "Arrangement of buttons on the title bar". Surprisingly, "All" will already be apparent. One need merely verify that it is on "all".

Close gconf.

Nothing will have happened in terms of new buttons even if one closes and opens, say FireFox.

Then reboot.

After the reboot, all three buttons will be present.

There are not a LOT of configuration items in gconf2 but this one seems to be of paramount importance to a lot of people.

One can also do it from command line, and if someone wants to post that please feel free it won't hurt my feelings.

OpenSUSE :: Can't Press Any Buttons, Neither Is There The Black Bar At The Top?

Sep 20, 2010

I have an EEE PC 1000H with currently XP and openSUSE 11.3 installed. I installed openSUSE 11.3 with the LXDE live CD yesterday and it worked without any troubles. Today after a 2 or 3 boots LXDE is behaving weird. The desktop is at the first moment totaly normal. But If you press ALT + F2 nothing happens. I can't launch any applications anymore except 2 I have a quicklauncher in the task for. (file manager and FF) But if I launch them I can't press any buttons, neither is there the black bar at the top which usually says something like "openSUSE.org - Mozilla Firefox" or so.

The weird thing about this is that I had this problem earlier this week after I installed openSUSE with the normal DVD. After one run or so the DVD was corrupted (don't know why) and I thought that might have caused it. But now since I installed openSUSE 11.3 with 2 DVDs/CDs (both images md5sum checked before burning) I don't know where the problem is.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Remapping Mouse Buttons To Keyboard?

I have a wireless keyboard with touchpad However the position of the mouse buttons is very unconfortable and so I would like to remap the mouse button to some kes on the keyboard.

I would like to use the media keys which are present on the keyboard. They are useless to me since most of the programs that I use have their own keyboard shortcuts for controls such as play, stop etc.

I mapped the keys using xev, and for instance I found that the "play" key mapped to keycode 172

by trying someting like

xmodmap -e "keycode 172 = Pointer_Button1"

nothing happens.
