I recently experienced a problem with Gnome and I removed and installed some components from it. Now that I have fixed the issue, the experimentation trying to fix the error has caused two minor problems with Gnome? View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4 using the "zypper dup"-method, because I have made good experiences with that approach with my last upgrade. However I have some strange visual artifacts throughout the system now. When a button is in its pushed state, then at the left and top edge, where normally a drop-shadow would be drawn, is a white bar, as shown in the picture below.This also applies to progress-bars (for example when starting eclipse but also for all other applications)Also the systems feels slower than usual when switching between applications. Can't tell if this is important, but I have a Nvidia Quadro NVS 160M graphics card with the latest driver (version 260.19.44).

I just installed Ubuntu Ultimate, and I found a theme I really liked that goes by the name "Azenis". However, I like the button arrangement on the default theme. Is there anyway to get the buttons on the left side of the screen, but still keeping the same look? I uploaded two screenshots just in case there is any confusion on the topic. (The blueish theme is Azenis, the default looking one is well, the default theme.)
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop with a fresh install of Lenny and KDE 3.5.10.On the computer there are these 7 Keys. I only care about the 3 related to sound. Now everything works perfect in Gnome, but when I switch to KDE, the 3 audio buttons don't work. I can't seem to figure out why and get them working. Does anyone have a solution for this? Again, they work in GNOME but not KDE.

After that, buttons that are selected are with two white lines. One on the top, and one on the left. I don't know what is it all about, but I think it may be nvidia's problem.
My simple problem is: i ftp my running ksh script from linux to windows and then to other linux box.
But my script is not working showing different errors.

There is a question about this in this thread but the thread title did not have any of the above words in it and since most "new" folks don't think to use the "posts" option, I thought I'd make a new titled post.
This seems to be a big irritant of a lot of people around the net with Gnome 3 so I'm going to confirm what other people have said about how to fix the situation.
In "add software" enter this search term:
gconf
You will see quite a few returns, you should click the following:
A process-transparent configuration system (G Conf1-2.3 yada yada)
Graphical Gconf untilities (it may be pulled with the above however).
Install it/them.
One can then type "Gconf2" in terminal and it will open but then close when the terminal is closed, or one can go to activities/applications/tweak advanced settings( the symbol will be the same as for settings in Gnome 3).
In the "Shell" button one will see "Arrangement of buttons on the title bar". Surprisingly, "All" will already be apparent. One need merely verify that it is on "all".
Close gconf.
Nothing will have happened in terms of new buttons even if one closes and opens, say FireFox.
Then reboot.
After the reboot, all three buttons will be present.
There are not a LOT of configuration items in gconf2 but this one seems to be of paramount importance to a lot of people.
One can also do it from command line, and if someone wants to post that please feel free it won't hurt my feelings.
(experienced in 9.XX and 10.04) Some of the time ubuntu works properley, but when i open a few windows the mouse and keyboard work fine to selected things except for the left and right buttons on the mouse...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got home from work today and my laptop was being strange. normally when left for a while the screen locks so you have to enter your password to use it. when i came to it the screen was black, like normal, only there was no login box just the mouse curser, that i could move about. so i did the ctrl alt f1 thing and logged in then rebooted. booted up all ok but neither of my shift buttons work. they work in the main login when i first turn it on but after im logged in they do nothing. i tried selecting mutiple items with shift and that doesnt work either. i aint changed any settings or owt like that. does anyone know whats up with it and how i can fix it'questionmark' im using 10.04 on a dell inspiron 1525 laptop. when i log in as a guest the shift buttons work fine. what is it that i have thats stopping them from working 'questionmark'

What is the problem? Is it an OpenSuse bug?
I am running 9.10 (Karmic) on a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop with Nvidia graphics. I have installed the -185 driver which has solved most problems. However every so often the system seems to lose track of the mouse button state. The first symptom of this is that all mouse movements on text are treated as if the left button is being held down: mouse movement selects text rather than just moving the graphics cursor. I am using a M$ optical mouse.
I have tried:unplugging and replugging the mouse using Ctl-Alt-F1 to go into a console and Ctl-Alt-F7 to go back to the GUI I am able to shut down all of the open windows normally using the keyboard, but the only way I have so far found to get the GUI working again is to reboot the system.
I have very interesting problem after ~10 PHP Fatal error, php 5(latest one) in apache2(latest one) in Ubuntu Server 10.10(with latest updates) just do not work. So if try any php page it's not working(user see white page), but HTML still work fine.What that can be? So only restart apache is help to back php. (we are running Wordpress blog 3.1)

I have installed flash from the [URL] Fedora wiki and flash works (I have tried both 32 and 64 bit versions). The webkinz site loads, but none of the buttons or games work (Try using the log in button, a new window should open asking for user name and password).

View 1 Replies View RelatedUpon logging into kde 4.4 the left mouse button (3 button usb mouse) becomes unresponsive on certain windows. For instance the toolbar may still respond to left-click while other windows on the desktop do not register it. However more and more windows/panels become unresponsive rather quickly. The same happens for right-click sometimes but far less often. Some functionality can be recovered by re-plugging the mouse.
Logging out and logging back in solves the problem until the next reboot. I have tried different users and wiping the .kde and .kde4 folders. The problem persists. I can stil work by relogging every time I turn on my computer but it does waste a lot of time so if there are any ideas I'd apreciate it. KDE 4.4 release 3 (There seems to be no updates in YAST available)
After working with the Install center for a couple of months with no problems I just woke up to find my Install and Remove buttons are not working. They don't give any errors, they just don't do anything when clicked
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday upon booting my Xubuntu 9.04, I see that all new windows I open have their title bar missing and on top of my pannel menu. If I try to run windows manager from the menu, nothing shows up on the screen. Therefore I think my windows manager is not running at all. I have no graphic effects and dont want any. I noticed that nothing shows up on the task bar (bottom bar) when I have anything opened up in the desktop. Can't minimize, can't click close button, ...How do I fix this ? I followed a thread to install Compiz and emerald just so I could get it to work but I do not like this option. I do not want any special effects. The more effects/options I have the more possible problems I may get. By the way I also have this problem on my office Ubuntu 10.04. Both started having this problem recently. I suspect it is an update that was done that is causing this.

On every version the mouse buttons stop working after a few clicks, on the trackpad and with a USB mouse. lock panel is checked if i right click. If i uncheck lock panel it will work for a little bit longer then stops. Anybody know how to fix this?This is my first time using ubuntu and i really want to love it. Had xp before on the Dell, but I don't like it. We're a Mac family, but if this works ubuntu could change our minds!

I have read many places about editing the xorg.conf file and have done so successfully under Ubuntu in the past. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to 11.04 and really like it so far, everything seems to be running smoothly and I had no issues apart from a broken Emerald which I removed (and installed compiz-gnome and then made gtk-window-decorator the default, which fixed Unity segfaulting on Emerald).
My problem now is that when I use the Unity dash to search for something, it takes a while to search and then finds nothing. I'm pretty sure I should have things like "text editor", "gimp", "update manager", so I would think this is some manner of bug.
In addition to that, the following buttons don't do anything if I click on them:
- Media Apps
- Internet Apps
- More Apps
- Find Files
Here's a weird one. Once in a while I inadvertantly hit the key combination RIGHT-ARROW + INSERT on my keyboard while editing in Geany. This stops my mouse buttons from working and I have to kill xorg. Anyone heard of this before or how to fix it? I know I know, I should stop hitting those keys by accident, but it seems to happen at least once a day! This is on Fedora 12.

So if I turn the volume all the way down with the physical buttons, the volume applet may still indicate 75%.I did not have this problem in Debian Lenny. Pressing the volume buttons used to show a volume bar on the screen, as did pressing the mute button.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn process of installing gnome have hit an error wall from dpkg too many errors. Tried increasing the allowed errors in dpkg.cfg to 150 and still get the errors. The errors now come up on any apt-get install.
ADDED: sent the output to file and the errors start with python2.5-minimal(2,5,43).
A couple of days ago on my Fujitsu Laptop which was nearing its end (in about 2 more years, I'll have to send it to the scrap pile) I had a GNOME Power Configuration error. This is the story of my struggles and my thread of cries for help: I was booting after installing an update for Maverick Meerkat, and I got a message during the load screen that said: INSTALLATION PROBLEM: The configuration defaults for Gnome Power Manager have not been installed correctly. Please Contact your system administrator.
So I dropped into GRUB During my 5th boot (while trying to boot once more in hopes it was just a boot error) and I selected the latest/updated version of Ubuntu, but I dropped into the recovery mode version so I could attempt some commands to try and fix it. Then, I dropped into the root terminal to attempt more commands to avoid specifying my networking device, and typing sudo before the commands. I got on my alternate computer and searched my problem. I installed a whole bunch of crappy commands that didn't do anything, and ended up purging GNOME completely and doing:
