Networking :: Transmission Bittorrent Config - Forward TCP And UDP Port 51413 To Server

I have just set up the transmission bittorrent client on my server (using the web interface), and am trying to get the port forwarding right. After noticing low download speeds (and rare uploading), I decided to check if a port needed to be forwarded.
I found many conflicting sites, mentioning both the ranges 6881-6999 and the port 51413 (as well as TCP and UDP versus just TCP). My current configuration is to forward TCP and UDP port 51413 to my server.
While I have Transmission running, whether it be up/downloading or just open with one thing unpaused and no activity, all other computer functions that need internet access are unusable. Transmission says my port is closed in its preferences.
1. How do I find and open port? 2. Will finding an open port solve the problem of all things internet not working while Transmission is? 3. Do I need to create a static ip in order to forward a port through my router? 4. Will creating a static ip and forwarding that port solve my problem of only being able to use the internet while Transmission is on?
Now I know how to set up port forwarding on a router so this is not that. What I want to do is, if possible, connect from Computer A to computer B and use computer B as a proxy for all of the Transmission (bit torrent) connections. I know how to do this with DNS, Http, etc etc but I'm not quite sure how to go at this with torrenting.Note that in this case Computer B is a ubuntu 10.04 server with an SSH server but no torrenting program installed.
If I forward port 80 to port 3128 for squid with an iptable rule, does port 3128 have to be open on the firewall or is this all routed behind the firewall?
I was just wondering if using a non-smp kernel would be ok on a older p4 system with no x. I am wondering due to some functionality in IPTABLES that is broken in the SMP kernels ( -m owner --sid.pid,cmd-owner).
Could someone that is running a NON-SMP kernel advise as to whether the support for -m owner --cmd-owner is working in iptables with those kernels? Also, could someone advise me if running a NON-SMP kernel is even advisable? The machine will not have x.
I'm using a Debian servers, as router/firwall.. I've two ethernet interfaces into the server, one for wan and one for lan. The i use SNAT so my LAN clients can access the internet throgh the debian router. That is working... Now i want to be able to access servers on the LAN site from the WAN site, and i wanna use port address translation (PAT). I have a FTP server running on a lan server, so i'm trying to portward port 21.
When people try to access my FTP from the WAN site, they are redirected to the local FTP server, and they are promted for crendentials, but when the credentials are typed, and the local ftp server should answer the wan request, the connections dies.
The wan clients are being promted for credentials, so they are redirected to the local lan server, but after that the connections dies, so i think there is some kind of nat problem, when the local lan server is trying to respond to the wan request..
Iam always downloading files using transmission bittorrent, the problem is my sister always keep pausing my all my downloads because it somehow slows her internet speed in her rooms computer, any way I can have a password prompted every time she pauses all my downloads in transmission?

Transmission bittorrent client on my computer doesn't seem to download any files...It just struks on 'downloading file'...When i checked out the preferences it says 'port closed', i'm using port no 18768....Torrents download fine with opera with the same port no...
I have an internal network behind a server <10.0.0.1> connected to the internet that NATs my ip <10.17.11.88> only. NAT is not allowed to any other ip addresses. When I use Transmission Bittorrent client to download torrents, The thing is that this 10.20.0.244 is not my machine and doesn't have access to the internet at all. What is happening here? Transmission says my port is closed. If I google the problem, it just gives me advice on how to open a port in Windows OS. There's no firewall in Ubuntu 10.10 by default, right? There isn't any router used neither. I'm living in a dorm. I just plug the LAN cable in the box fixed to the wall.
Just setup an ssh server...kinda. I need to forward the port (22) through my router. I have forwarded ports before for programs so the whole thing isnt a mystery. But i need to know what to put in for a couple boxes.... Private ip: ? protocol type: tcp, udp, or both?

Well I have been searching for more than a month now and I think I have read every single post related to this subject and finally decided to make a thread.
Now before I begin I am running Openvpn on my CentOS VPS. I have set static IP's for everyone.
Now what I am looking for is this lets say one of my clients wants port 60005 forwarded through my VPS to the internet what are the correct commands to run.

Lets say i have two machines on public ips. If i get incoming traffic on machine #1 on port 55242 i would just like to forward it to machine #2 on port 35000.I would just like to use machine #1 same way as a dns server works. It just redirects the traffic and tells the client where to go.
I have a host and a client both running linux. Host has internet through eth2. Client needs to share that connection. The computers are connected directly using a crossover. I can ping from both fine. I figured I needed to port forward eth2 to eth0 to gain internet access in the client. How?

How to open port for transmission or deluge to use torrents, 'cause any of both programs can download any torrent. I've searched on the internet and only find about open ports on hardware router, and that's weird 'cause Deluge on windows works perfect just after installing it and there's no need to open any port on hardware router.
So here is my issue in a nutshell. I need to take FTP requests that hit Server_A and forward them to Server_B. Server_B is not natted...Server_B is another public server in a completely different location in the world. One thing to note is that I only have one NIC hence why you will see both in and out being eth0. This is what I have in my iptables on SERVER_A:iptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 --sport 21 -o eth0 -d SERVER_B --dport 21 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPTiptables -A FORWARD -p tcp -i eth0 --sport 20 -o eth0 -d SERVER_B --dport 20 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPTI've also tried both of the above without the --sport option. When I FTP to SERVER_A (where the above iptables rule are) it connects to SERVER_A instead of forwarding them to SERVER_B.

I have an apache2 server on a Debian box that I am using as the reverse proxy for my sites that are sitting behind it and everyone is happy. But now I want to be able to access my vmware server console from outside the network without exposing the vmware server port to the internet. So I did this I created a new virtual host for apache and it looks like this (edited for the real world)
So here is what I want to be able to do. I want to be able to punch in [URL] and have the reverse proxy just take care of everything else without having to punch in the port number or anything else. I'd also like to have if possible the ssl on the vmware box just pass through the proxy back to the end user. If that isn't possible and I need to create a new ssl for the apache box then that is ok too. I have googled this and looked at several other sites but I'm still a little bit lost.
I've a webserver at 10.10.0.55. Above in the hierarchy are managed network cisco switch / router and ASA firewall (the usual stuff). I also have a mail server at 10.10.0.200. I was told by the network admin that he can't forward port 80 to webserver and port 25 to mail server. Basically he said that it's a one-to-one (external.ip-to-internal.ip) mapping and all traffic, no matter what port it's destined for must go to 10.10.0.55. So, I turn to the wonder that linux is. The webserver is running Centos 5.4. Currently, all packets on port 25 are coming to the webserver. I want to forward all these packets to the email server. Note: the webserver only has one interface: eth0. I turned to web for help and did this in iptables:
It didn't work. I am assuming that since I only have one interface, a simple rule to the filter table and forward chain will not work.So i use the NAT table and try the following:
First of all, since there is no service/daemon listening on port 25 on the webserver, is it even going to work? Isn't the webserver simply going to discard packets on port 25? I am assuming that packets go through the iptables first, and so iptables should route the packets to the email server, where there is postfix listening on port 25. Am i right? Also, as you can see in the code above, all packets coming on port 25 on the webserver should be logged. But they aren't. In order to troubleshoot, I'd like to at least know that packets are coming into the iptables. But since it's not logging, I can't find out what's wrong.
