View 2 RepliesI have some japanese music files stored on a flash drive that the titles of which are in japanese originally. While in the flash drive, when I go to Properties -> Audio, the title is written in japanese. It does not allow me to edit the file, no matter what permissions I have on it, therefore I can't change the name to english. So, I tried Rhythmbox instead, and transfered the file there. I could change the name, however there is STILL a huge problem.
I have around 300 japanese music files, all of which have to be renamed into english.
I did all this for all of them in Rhythmbox, and clicked "quit" when I was done. When I came back to transfer the files to my MP3 player like usual, I opened Rhythmbox, and...
ALL OF THE FILES WERE STILL IN JAPANESE! It didn't save any of the work I did on editing them. But, I calmed down and thought "oh, you can save playlists! I am sure that if I save them on one, it will keep the edits!" I did this, and it saved nothing. It took me 2 hours to finish the renaming, just to find out that it can't save information edits at all.
I'm trying to set up my router, with tomato firmware, to save the bandwidth usage information. One of the 'save history' choices is "CIFS" ... I'm lost as to how to create this save area..anyone able to give me a link to a 'how to' ...or if you've done it, perhaps a step by step?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to implement routing using fedora 14. The following is how I arrange my computers -
[PC1]<=======>[ROUTER]<=======>[PC2]
And the following are the configuration -
PC1 : (Tiny Core Linux)
eth0 192.168.2.2/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0)
ROUTER (FC14)
eth0 192.168.2.1/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0)
eth1 192.168.4.1/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0)
PC2 (Tiny Core Linux)
eth0 192.168.4.2/24 (netmask 255.255.255.0)
On the ROUTER I have set the ip_forward=1 and eth0.proxy_arp=1 and eth1.proxy_arp=1
then I run the following command :
route add -net 192.168.2.0/24 gw 192.168.2.1 dev eth0
route add -net 192.168.4.0/24 gw 192.168.4.1 dev eth1
On PC1 I executed the following :
route add -net 192.168.4.0/24 gw 192.168.2.1 dev eth0
and for PC2 I run the following
route add -net 192.168.2.0/24 gw 192.168.4.1 dev eth0
After doing those things, I can't ping between PC1 and PC2... but both can ping the router...
I have a firewall, this consists of three NIC's:
Code: eth0[192.168.0.2] eth1[192.168.1.2] and eth2[10.10.165.2]
I am trying to ping eth0 from eth2, but I am not able to succesfully get a response from pinging the device, I am using:
Code: ping 192.168.0.2 -I eth2
I have tried to insert routing data into the routing table, but it still doesn't work
i recently started sockets programming. In the process i began to look for relevant network information about my computer and realized that ifconfig wasn't displaying the same information that resides in my /etc/network/interfaces file. On the interfaces file my IP address is 192.168.1.109 for interface eth0 but ifconfig displays 192.168.1.101. I was under the impression that ifconfig got its information from the interfaces file but clearly doesn't. I tried re configuring the device with ifconfig and then disabling and re enabling the device with ifdown and ifup so that the device updated its information but it didn't.

I'm having problems with Kstars and would like to know the proper place to post questions or if there is a forum just for the Kstars program. I can't find much info on the net. If I remember right it worked in Ubuntu 8 but I've upgraded to the latest and some options in Kstars are not working now. In a nutshell, some of the problems are:
1: Help not working. I get....Could not Launch the KDE help center: Could not find service 'khelpcenter'
2: In telescope wizard, there is no list of telescopes.
3: I cant save my telescope information under properties.
As I'm just learning this stuff, it could be a bug but not sure, so please point me in the right direction for help. I'm running dual boot on a HP laptop. Windows XP and Ubuntu. I have reformatted the drive and installed everything new for a clean slate.
I am trying to fill out this PDF form:
http://www.math.washington.edu/Grads...mentalform.pdf
In Document Viewer, I can click on the fields and type in them, but after spending about 2 hours writing descriptions of courses, I saved it and... it closed the document I was working on, and loading the document I saved resulted in empty fields that could no longer be edited at all - clicking on them did nothing - it looked like a blank form, except it was also broken.
Is there any way I can actually fill in this form...

I'm having trouble to configure my debian (2.6.26-2-686) with some routing tuning. In fact, I have a VPN provider. I want my Squid Proxy use this VPN provider and I have to use policy routing because my ISP forbid IP spoofing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm facing a strange networking problem here. I'm running Debian Lenny in an OpenVZ container and my network setup is as follows:
link encap:Local Loopback

inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

I need to be able to do the following: Physical Router located at 192.168.40.1 On Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid machine:
eth0 with static ip 192.168.40.2
eth1 with static ip 192.168.40.3
eth2 with static ip 192.168.40.4
Associate a virtual address to eth1 with an entirely different network address such as 192.168.50.1 Do the same (virtual address) for eth2 -- e.g. 192.168.60.1 In the application:
register phone number A at 192.168.40.1 (The application will automatically use eth0 for this)
register phone number B at 192.168.50.1
register phone number C at 192.168.60.1
Somehow forward all traffic (including the register request) sent to 192.168.50.1 to 192.168.40.1 as if the register had been made directly to 192.168.40.1. In other words, the app "sends" registration and traffic to 192.168.50.1 but then Ubuntu forwards it to 192.168.40.1 (but the app does not know that). Similarly, forward all traffic sent to 192.168.60.1 to the router at 192.168.40.1.
Do the same for the reverse, forward all traffic that the router sends back to 192.168.40.3 (eth1) to 192.168.50.1 (within the Ubuntu machine) so that the app knows it is for phone B. Similarly forward all traffic that the router sends back to 192.168.40.4 (eth2) to 192.168.60.1 so that the app knows it is for phone C. Thus, the application believes that it is registering at 3 completely separate routers on 3 completely separate networks via 3 separate network interfaces but in fact is really registering all three to the same router (but does not know that). Similarly, the router believes that it is receiving 3 separate registrations because it receives each registration request and traffic from 3 separate interfaces and thus 3 separate mac addresses (i.e., of eth0, eth1, and eth2). Traffic sent to and from the router for each of the 3 phone numbers (via eth0, eth1, and eth2) are not mixed because the translation happens in both directions.
I have a dual-boot windows and Suse linux 11.1 setup. I can save and restore a linux image. Trying to save an image of Windows results in Partimage freezing at the "NTFS Information" window before the "save partition to image file." I have two SystemRescue CDs of versions 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 I have two computers one with Windows 2000 and one with Windows XP I have defragmented the partitions several times over. Users are told that use with "NTFS is experimantal". Several up-beat webpage tutorials also mention this but go on to say how marvellous it works for them. Naturally, such sites do not mention problems. This is the province of the forums. I have found nothing that relates to my problem though. Hence my post appealing for any guidance on offer.

Why can't Ubuntu store configuration information in a way that it wouldn't need to be clobbered in order to apply security updates? For example, this mornings updates told me I had to choose between using a new version of smb.conf that's part of the security patches, stick with the old version, or let the update installer merge them. Of course, the first two choices have obvious drawbacks: why should I have to choose between losing all my SMB settings or refusing security fixes? So I chose the merge, which came back with "Conflicts found during three-way merge! edit `/etc/samba/smb.conf' and sort them out manually."

View 3 Replies View Relatedi know exactly what i need to do, im just not familiar enough with command line to do it properly.i have 7 computers.the first 4 are connected to a router via wireless at one end of the house. of the last 3 only 1 will be able to access the router via wireless, so it needs to share it's one wireless connection via ethernet. this computer i'm going to call 'server'server will have two IP'swlan0 192.168.1.6 this connects to the router that has internet access.eth0 i intend to have the following settingsip:192.168.0.1sub: 255.255.0eth0 will connect to a second router, where the cat5 cable goes from the server, into the internet port of the router where i will define the router's static IP:IP: 192.168.0.100sub: 255.255.255.0gateway 192.168.0.1i have then set the router IP for LAN handling as 192.168.27.1 and all ethernet connections will have a 192.168.27.x IP.
so i need to know how to, without a gui application, use the terminal to assign server eth0 a proper IP address, and tell the server to take the connection it has and share it through eth0 to supply internet for the last 2 computers via ethernet.i had it set up in this way with a windows machine being the one that had the wifi access, but i'd rather have it setup for the ubuntu server to do this task. security is imperative for these 3 remaining machines, so just getting 2 more wifi adapters for a connection to the initial router isn't an option.the 2 that connect to server do so through SSH and though server IS connected via wireless it only makes outward connections through

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy employer issues pdf files with everyones work schedules. I copy the content and save it as plain text in a file called unformatted (hope to be able to automate this step someday). Im working on a SED script that reduces unformatted to only display what I want to see and saves the result in a file Iïve named formatted. After that I have to manually copy formatted and save it with that days date as a filename e.g. 2011-02-25 or whatever day is scheduled in the pdf, for use on a mobile device (Nokia N900). I noticed that the date occurs on certain lines in the file so I added a line like:
sed -n 's/^Date: (201[1-9])/([0-1][0-9])/([0-3][0-9]).*/1-2-3/p' < unformatted >theDate
That creates a file theDate with the date in it that I wish to use as the filename for this particular instance. So I would like to skip the file formatted all together and have the sed- script write to a new file using the content of the Date as a filename, but how do I make that happen? And of course it would be more elegant if I could skip the intermediate theDate file as well.
