Networking :: Limitof UDP Sockets We Can Bind At Same Time In Fedora Core X64 ?
Jan 18, 2011
During the development of a java application appearantly found that cannot bind more than 500 UDP sockets at the same time.
The developed java application is running on Fedora Core (x64)
Is there some procedure to check how many sockets I can bind at the same time on that linux distribution?
In case the limit exists, can it be increased easily?
$ uname -a result is :

I have this ISP grade Nameserver running on BIND 9.5 on Fedora Core 9 64 Bit.
Its been pretty working well for sometime until a last week when we noticed it stopped resolving for our clients using on our service.
It gives correct authouritative answers for our own ISP domain with the A, PTR and MX intact but does not return resolving queries back to clients.
Below are my files
This is the message from /var/log/messages
The 41.223.x.x and 41.215.x.x ip address are from our ISP subnet and so are our own clients being denied.
The box is also hosting our traffic graph server which is on a LAMP but listens on another IP/ethernet card.
So far the load on the server is minimal as is a Dell R200 rack server.

I have written simple TCP server-client programs in 'C' on my RHEL 5 64 bit.I want to add SEND and RECEIVE timeout for this socket; so that if server is not responding in given time, request will get timeout instead of waiting in "recv" call. But I failed to do so.

Iam using socket programming in one of my problem. The scenario is like this.
=>one module is working as a socket server(process p1) is able to handle client sockets on that port.
=>one module is working as socket client (process p2) is connected to server socket and Tx/Rx data on this socket. This module has some more threads, based on received data from server socket it will connect to http on other thread and get information...
=>one more module is working as socket client (process p3) is also connected to server socket and doing some other transactions.
Here my problem is when in presence of p2, p3 http connection taking more time than the expected. If we wont start p3(means only one server-client socket) then http connection is fast enough.

host A: Fedora 7 has bind 9.4.2
host B: Fedora 11 has bind 9.6.1
I want to migrate my bind configuration from A to B I've read the release notes and man pages and I can't see why copying
/etc/named*
and
/var/named/*
I checked /etc/sysconfig/named too... Seems to have no effect on my brand new install on Fedora 11. Host B stays basically un-configured.

I've got a weird problem on my fedora 12.
My computer is running behind an ISP box, Firewall shut off, SELinux disabled.
I've a local IP address : 192.168.0.2 dynamically given by the ISP through DHCP
I've got bind installed. I've defined a domain (let's call it mydomain.com) in the /etc/named.conf this way :
Code:
//
// named.conf
//
// Provided by Red Hat bind package to configure the ISC BIND named(8) DNS
[Code].....
Finally, the named service is running.
Here is the trouble : I can ping my domain, but when I try to browse to this domain in my browser, the connection is rejected !

I have created a virtual machine of a system running Fedora Core 4 and I need to upgrade it to Fedora Core 10. Based on what I have read, it iis possible so I started theupgrade process. I get an error message saying that /dev/hda6 (my root paritition does not exist) even though it does.
Does the installer need to read a label from /etc/fstab? I executed tune2fs -L / /dev/hda6 amd ,and added LABEL=/ for the corresponding entry for fstab. but the FEDORA CORE 10 is still giving the same problems for the installation process. Should I upgrade to an intermediate verson like Fedora Core 7 first?

I want to use single label host names on my local LAN, without using any domain (at least no registered one). My machines should be named in a fashion similar to 'myserver', 'mydesktop' etc. so that i from a browser on any LAN machine may write 'http://myserver', and get the webserver on 'myserver' (so NO domain part, e.g. myserver.domain).
Do i need to create a DNS zone for each host or is there a way to put all host in a single zone, if so; which? Would such a name be considered a root domain?

I use Windows7 on my laptop. I have got the following version of VMware Server installed on it.
**VMware Infrastructure Web Access Version 2.0.0 Build 122589**
**VMware Server Version 2.0.0 Build 122956**
I am running Fedora Core 10 on VMware, but Fedora is not able to connect to the Internet. However, when I try to ping google.com, it works fine. However, if I try to open google.com in mozilla-firefox, it gets stuck at "Connecting to google.com" and then finally times out. Similarly, yum also gets stuck.

Issue with the 'host' command that comes with bind-utils package. We don't have any browsing/name resolution issues except to the following two sites:
[code]....
command [URL] returned:
www.aeroplan.com is an alias for www.halb.aeroplan.com.
www.halb.aeroplan.com has address 207.34.195.17
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
[code].....
I have tried to run the "host" command against different DNS caching servers I have access to all produced the same timed out error. I called Aeroplan technical support to report the issue to them and from their perspective, they have no problem accessing the website. And we don't have any problem accessing any websites ourselves if "host" return A record lookup without the timed out error.
1. It's not our firewall filtering out packet. I tried it on external facing server without firewall and got the same result.
2. It's not our DNS caching server cause same errors are observed on our ISP caching server.
3. It works on an altogether network, from a Windows Vista desktop, through IE 8.

I just upgraded from FC 13 to FC 14. I run an ssh server on a port in the 3000s (call it 3xxx, to protect the innocent). When I try to start sshd with the "Port 3xxx" option in sshd_conf, I get the following error in /var/log/secure
sshd[5104]: error: Bind to port 3xxx on 0.0.0.0 failed: Permission denied.
sshd[5104]: error: Bind to port 3xxx on : : failed: Permission denied.
I did not use to have this problem in FC 13. how I can give sshd the necessary permissions now?

The problem started when I noticed I couldn't upload to people using a torrent downloading program, the program listened on port X and when I sniffed on the same port I saw that syn's are forwarded correctly from my nat to that port but the program doesn't relate to those packets. Then I listened with NC, and even on another port nothing is being answered to those syns packets.

I am having difficulties in establishing a vpn connection using vpnc (or NetworkManaager-vpnc).
As long as the openswan IPsec daemon is running, vpnc-helper quits with the error message
Quote:
Failed to bind to 0.0.0.0:500: Address already in use
[user@computer ...]# vpnc-helper --local--port 0
If I use NetworkManager-vpnc, then establishing the connection simply fails.
Using the --local-port 0 option does not change anything.
If I stop the ipsec service (service ipsec stop) then establishing the connectiong works, both with NetworkManager-vpnc and the console tool, but apparently the network traffic is not routed via the VPN - in my case this means that I cannot access hosts within the vpn and stuff.
Funny thing is - on my notebook from where I connect via WLAN, everything works fine. With Fedora 13 everything works fine, too.
Does anybody have an idea how to enforce that the vpn connection is actually used?

I have a C program which does.
1. Creates a UDP socket
2. Send the UDP Request packet to the TFTP server.
3. If the TFTP server is not listening in the 69 port, the remote machine send an ICMP ("Port Unreachable") message.
Is there a way to receive a notification from the Linux kernel on receipt of an ICMP packet to the created UDP socket.

I wrote an application that receives packets on one interface and sends them to another interface after it added a vlan header. Both the sending and the receiving is done using raw sockets. Everything seems to work fine until I get TCP packets that are of size 1514 (MTU). Once I add a vlan header to the packet, its size becomes 1518 and when I try to send it I get the returned value -1 and errno=90 (message too long). I tried to change the MTU of the NIC to a value that is bigger than 1500 but that fails. If I create a bridge using brctl and vconfig between the NICs I can see that my NIC does sends packets of size 1518. What do I need to in order to make my NIC to send packets of size 1518?
