I have written simple TCP server-client programs in 'C' on my RHEL 5 64 bit.I want to add SEND and RECEIVE timeout for this socket; so that if server is not responding in given time, request will get timeout instead of waiting in "recv" call.But I failed to do so.

The developed java application is running on Fedora Core (x64)
Is there some procedure to check how many sockets I can bind at the same time on that linux distribution?
In case the limit exists, can it be increased easily?

Iam using socket programming in one of my problem. The scenario is like this.
=>one module is working as a socket server(process p1) is able to handle client sockets on that port.
=>one module is working as socket client (process p2) is connected to server socket and Tx/Rx data on this socket. This module has some more threads, based on received data from server socket it will connect to http on other thread and get information...
=>one more module is working as socket client (process p3) is also connected to server socket and doing some other transactions.
Here my problem is when in presence of p2, p3 http connection taking more time than the expected. If we wont start p3(means only one server-client socket) then http connection is fast enough.
I seem to be entering my password far to often. Every time I just turn my back I have been logged out!! It would be nice to increase this time out time by a couple of minutes.

I made a socket server, using fork ,I tried to connect it with different clients.Each client will send messages to others through server.So server has a shared memory storing every clients username and client id. But the problem facing is first client is able to sent messages to every other client formed after that.But second client onwards it is not able to sent message to previously connected ones. Server is not able to write on those client id's.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 and it works fine. Next, I attempted to install Apache 2.2.16 server on the machine. I was able to get Apache installed but I cant't get it to start. The command I used to get it to start is "apachectl -k start" and got the response "command not found". Then I used the absolute path which is "/home/Administrator/Downloads/apache/bin/apachectl -k start" and got the response"httpd: could not reliably determine ther server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName(13)Permission denied: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:80.no listening to sockets available, shutting down". Please advise me on what to do. My eyes hurt from looking at the screen for so long trying different options and reading almost all the apache install instructions that exists. Just ready to have it up and running.

3. Difference between LISTEN and LISTENING state.
My time zone is set right. I look at yest. And it set to the right time zone. But it said 02:04 am. When it should be about 19:07 PM! I'm not sure what to do. As for my language problem. I'm not sure. Took a look at yest again. But I'm having a ton of spelling error. How to do it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRight now I'm 2hrs ahead of my normal time zone, i.e. the time zone I chose when I installed. So I changed the system clock right , ie right click Time > Prefferences. But when I re-boot it keeps reverting to the original time.

Then it says that it cannot create a new crontab. I have ubuntu desktop 9 running as a webserver. I've read the details in these posts and it isn't helping.

I live in India and my computer's time is always a minute ahead. I have selected the option to keep it synchronized with internet time servers but as there does not appear to be a time server for ubuntu in India I am not sure what to do. As of now I tried selecting foreign server but can't see anything happen.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI change the audio channels to 6 in alsamixer by choosing my sound card and change the channels to '6ch'. But this setting is not preserved. I see that after a reboot the channels are again going back to 2ch. I have to manually change everytime to 6ch after each reboot. Is there a way to save the setting in alsamixer so that I will get 6ch everytime after reboot? I am not sure I have explained my problem in a way so that you can understand.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just know it has to be possible to let two users (since I have two kids) share the same PC at the same time using a 2nd graphic card, two displays, two keyboards, two mice. I have seen one 10 year old "how to" which just didn't seem like it would fly with today's XFree/DBUS/all USB setups.
Does anyone know how to do this? I would like each user to see a log in screen and log into a GUI desktop (it doesn't have to be KDE, but that is what we have been using). The MB and the video card use the same type of GPU. The PC has a dual core AMD, and 4 GB of RAM, so the resources should be fine for school work, KDE Educational software/games. Other than squid, there isn't particular server running on it either, so resources should not be an issue.
Is in Ubuntu option, that can shutdown computer after time or at defined time? I think: I have turned on my computer and I will need to automatically shutdown computer after 4 hours or at 21.00 pm. Is there option, if computer can automatically turn on at defined time?

I've got a box with 2 interfaces, with IP1 = 192.168.100.1 and IP2 = 10.1.1.1 respectively on them. I've got an iptables rule that looks like:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.100.0/24 -d 10.0.0.0/8 -p udp -j SNAT --to-source 10.1.1.1 --random
If I get 2 consecutive packets from the same address and port from 192.168.100.0/24, they get SNAT-ed and come out of the same port on 10.1.1.1. If then I get another packet from the same address and port 10 minutes later, then it gets SNAT-ed, but comes out of a different port on 10.1.1.1. How can I set the time delay I would like iptables to remember its incoming address/port to outgoing port mappings?
I'm setting the hardware clock on RHEL 5.1 system using /sbin/hwclock --systohc. After setting the clock I issue a date command followed by a /sbin/hwclock --show from within a script to get fast resolution and I see that the hardware clock precedes the system time on average by .5 seconds. I would think the clock should be identical after setting.

Is there a way to make changes persistent? Is there a way to let admin users change the setting without having to enter a password every time?
