Apr 13, 2010On Opensuse 11.2, I would like to connect my ipod touch to a wireless ad-hoc network of my laptop. I have no wireless WIFI-router at home, so I have to use the laptop as a router to the internet. I know I have to enter a static IP adres and my router's address, but where ? I haven't found any place under network tools to do this, only saw some fields with SSID's and MAC addresses to fill in.

Feb 23, 2009This will allow you to use iphones' data plan as a wireless access point. Currently setup instructions are only posted for windows/mac using a helper app to configure the laptop. Here are the instructions I followed to setup iphonemodem2 to work under Fedora 10: Download iPhoneModem2 from a jailbroken iphone using Cydia. Create a new wireless network on Fedora with the following settings:
a) SSID = "iPhoneModem"
b) Mode = Ad-hoc
c) IPv4 Method = Automatic (DHCP)
Connect laptop and iphone to new wireless network. Start iphonemodem app on iphone. The "traffic" does not update; the "status" says "Wrong Wifi Network"; and the signal strength says 0%. However, the network connection should be there as long as you have a data signal to your service provider.

Mar 19, 2010I run Ubuntu 9.04 on a Toshiba NB205. I am suddenly having trouble connecting to the internet using my router or my cable modem for that matter. The weird thing is that I can:(1) connect to other networks just fine, and(2) my router/internet connection work fine when plugged into my desktop.I can't connect whether I'm plugged in with the ethernet cable directly from my modem or from my router, although both work fine when plugged into my desktop. Basically two green lights show up on networkmanager but it doesn't go from there to connecting.So the usual troubleshooting of moving the wires around and trying to connect like that just suggested that my laptop doesn't connect on the one router/internet connection that I happen to need.

Jun 28, 2010After searching/googling for information related to the topic, I haven't been able to get this working in KDE. Background: I have a Dell Studio 1745 with builtin Intel 5100bg wireless card. It connects to my Linksys WRT54G router just fine in openSUSE 11.2 & 11.3 using either KDE or Gnome. In Fedora 13 it only connects under Gnome, not KDE. Those are using NetworkManager. Using traditional ifup only works in Fedora under Gnome, i.e. nothing works under KDE in Fedora.

Fedora Networking :: Home Network - Can't Connect To Windows XP Laptop
Apr 1, 2009Since I installed fedora on my desktop (there is no other OS on my desktop computer at the moment) I can't connect to my laptop which has Windows XP installed on it, although I can normally connect to internet from both computers. Here is the drawing to illustrate how everything is connected:
On the picture you can see that the phone line goes to the ADSL modem. The ADSL modem is connected to the Wireless modem with LAN cable. Wireless modem is connected to my desktop computer with LAN cable, and trough the wireless connection to the laptop. Internet is working fine for both computers, but desktop can't see laptop and vice versa. What do I need to do in order to see the laptop?

Jan 15, 2011I'm not exactly sure if this should be here and not in the Hardware & Laptops section, but seeing as my only problem is with WiFi, I'm guessing this is the right place. Under Ubuntu, my laptop (an Asus K42Ja, more details below) can see wireless networks normally. However, when I attempt to connect, it fails to establish a connection. Under Windows on the same laptop (dual boot), no problems are experienced.
According to this, there's a firmware bug in my wireless chip which causes connections to get dropped. I'm not getting connections at all, but I still tried the workarounds on that page with no luck. The router is a TP-Link TL-WR340G. My previous laptop, a really old one from 2003 running Ubuntu 9.10 was able to connect to that router without problems. The wireless card was Intel on that as well (but, of course, much older). The router is set up to use WPA for security. I didn't use WPA2 as I read something a while ago about problems with WPA2 and some Linux distros. Please correct me if I'm wrong here.
If anyone's curious, I'm posting this on Ubuntu, via an ethernet cable to the router mentioned earlier. Some tasty technical bits: dmesg (the latter half of the "timed out" messages is me retrying after double-checking the WPA key)

I updated the firmware for my driver but apparantly the driver is still not working. Broadcom has a driver from their website for Linux 32 bit systems. Should I attempt to install it? I read a post where the driver is built into the system kernel. If so I would need to blacklist the one of the drivers. Correct?

I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 4.2.2.1result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.

The rumors appeared true and they have finally implemented 802.11x authentication instead of that horrible java app netdirect. I am sure you've been cursing at its erratic stability. There is no linux documentation for airUWS-Lite nor anything more imformative than there windows/mac point and click steps found at [URL]. However with a few simple clicks you can have stable working connection.
When connecting make sure you have theses settings.
Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

Feb 21, 2011i have 3 comps(running ubuntu 10.04) and a laptop(running vista sp2). i have installed samba on all ubuntu comps. i have a printer attached to one of the comps and it has been shared also the internet connection on that comp has been shared. all the computers are connected using lan cables through an ethernet switch. i also have a wireless router which is connected to the ethernet switch.
I am able to view all the comps on the network except the laptop running vista. all the desktops are visible on the network and are able to print and share files on the network and also connect to the internet.the laptop running vista can connect to the internet but its not visible on the network and nor can it share files across the network or access the printer.all the systems have a static ip.

Need help getting my wireless network to work on my newly installed Oracle Linux on Dell laptop.
Not sure what wireless card is installed, or it's mac address (though I can boot into windows and get that info, I don't want to - it'll be kind of a let down if I can't fix it all thru Linux).
Install has detected a Broadcom wired card, but not the wireless. Funny thing is that it detected the Bluetooth.

Sep 11, 2010I picked up a cheap PC the other day for �20 and it came with a Belkin N Wireless USB adapter. I know the adapter works because Windows XP was originally installed and I could connect with no problems. I wasn't able to connect when I installed Kubuntu so I thought I'd see if I could have any more luck with Fedora....so far, not so good! I realise that this is a fairly common problem, especially for this USB adapter, but I've tried dozens of threads here and elsewhere and still can't get Fedora online.I can see the wireless networks in the list, but if I try and connect then I just repeatedly get asked to enter the authentication details, which I know I'm providing correctly.

The Network Manager shows it's there, with the correct SSID and security key and everything, yet it still won't connect. I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick/Meerckat on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p about 3 hours ago and it can't seem to connect to the wireless network... I've had the same problem when I moved from Windows to Ubuntu on my desktop but I've been able to fix it completely. The thing is I can't remember how I fixed it :S So, I updated my system, downloaded the additional drivers. Also, I cna connect to the ethernet network. To fix my desktop, I used some command lines that someone posted in a thread about the wireless keeping disconnecting... I just can't find that post though :S What I remember about the post was that there was someone who had posted a thing with like a parabolic thing around he wireless adapter (LOL)

Ubuntu Networking :: 11.04 - Can See Wireless Network But Can't Connect
May 7, 2011Earlier in the week, I installed 10.10, but had awful problems trying to get the wireless networking working. Upgraded to 11.04, and wireless is sort of working. However, I am unable to connect to my wireless network. It sees the network, but just keeps asking me for the password. I enter this (I have checked that it is correct), but it just prompts again, after a little while. Networking through network cable works fine.
Wireless network is set up to use WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK. I have checked, and I do have wpa_supplicant loaded.
