I have webmin 1.500 installed on my Ubuntu.I can access webmin on the ubuntu machine using
"https://localhost:10000" (10000 is port no.)But I cannot access it from other computers.I have dial-up connection on ubuntu.I have also added port 10000 usingsudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed webmin, then added the line for port 10000 into my iptables. I restarted iptables, but I still can't get to the webmin page on my server. If i stop iptables, i can connect to it. did i edit iptables wrong? could something else be blocking it?

I just installed Webmin on this CentOS 5.5 client and would like to know if it's possible to remotely administer the Squid server. The one I'm using for webmin is different from the one where Squid proxy is running.
How do you set it up and where in Webmin?
I'm not terribly new to Linux, but I am new to the forums, so hear me out! I am in the process of creating an electronic mapwall for our meteorology program, and have designed the computing system from scratch. I have two Linux Boxes, each with capabilities for 6 attached monitors...a total of 12 displays driven from two machines. My intention is to have one machine be the master...it has a touchpanel control. The inputs to the touchpanel will then trigger events for the both the master and the slave machine to display. Each of them has a specific IP address (DNS entry), and are not on a subnet.
Now...is there a way to remotely login to the slave machine and have it display on it's OWN monitors? The code is Java and which works on the master machine to animate directories of .gifs for each of the master's attached monitors. I will most likely have Java execute shell commands for the remote login (ssh), but I believe the answer lies somewhere in the X-configuration. Do I have the machines in an adverse configuration (creation of a subnet would be better)? Lots of questions...lots of desire...few answers!
I have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
Then i tryed to install it and got that error.
I also tryed install it using this tutorial [url]
When i got to the part when i need to type
sudo apt-get install update this is what happened
I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.
Does anyone know or recommend some software or a script to remotely power on a PC from standby to on, or even better from completely off?
I guess the completely OFF to ON is much more complicated - would probably require an extra piece of hardware(?)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently downloaded and installed apache2 http server from tarball source (i'm running ubuntu but i think its more fun to use tarballs i don't know why but its how i am) anyway i just installed apache2 and when i go into the servers section of webmin and click on apache web server i get this message:
The Apache server executable /usr/local/apache2/conf/ does not exist. If you have Apache installed, adjust the module configuration to use the correct path. and when i go to the configuration menu i don't understand a word of it.
I have setup Samba shares on my Ubuntu 10.10 and assigned different different username and password combination for each share.
The sharing works perfectly fine on all the Windows machines but it does not work on OSX. When I try to connect using OSX, it ends up showing waiting icon (screenshot attached) after entering username and password. (It asks for the login details after selecting the share from the list)

I have a subdomain called www3 and I cant see it outside of our network. It's added in vhosts.conf in /etc/httpd/conf.d, and I can access it through [URL], but only when on vpn.
We have another www2 that is both local AND outside the vpn. I am testing the site live and need access to it. Is there another file besides vhosts.conf that I need to add the ssubdomain in? Here's what I added in my vhosts.conf

I'm a new user of Ubuntu. I requested the Ubuntu 9.10 cd online and got it in around 3 weeks. I've chosen the 'Install over windows' option for my use right now. The version of windows being 'Windows 7'. The problem is that I'm unable to connect to the internet. I'm using LAN cord to connect to my modem. The 'Network Manager' tht the user manual talks about, is not to be found yet. When I click on the 'Network' icon on the top right portion of the panel, it shows that 'autoeth0' is connected but when I open firefox and try to open any website, the 'Server not found' comes up on the firefox window. Thus I'm not able to surf the web.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 cisco sw 3500xl series working properly forwarding traffic. All operations are Layer 2. I have setup keep alive 10 on all the ports. They are connected to another sw together with a Linux router on Cent OS 5.2. I can't ping the switches from the Linux box. If I arping them, I get a response and after that they are accessible for telnet. Otherwise they are not. After 5min the macs are flushed from the arp table of the Linux box, and then again they are not accessible only if I arping them, or set a static mac.

When I go to my win7 machine it I can browse to the machine (called jira2) and see the folder called homes, but when I click on the folder it says Windows cannot access \JIRA2homes. if I expand the details it says Error code 0x80070035 I am running Ubuntu 10.04.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a recent update and reboot, I can no longer access the internet. Typing google.com in firefox or elinks results in firefox/links complaining about the server not found. However, I can find the server by using dig on the command line. I have checked the DNS configuration in resolve.conf and it is exactly the same as on a RHEL 5 system connects fine. The strange thing is, I can connect to other local machines in my domain just fine but can not connect to any other machine on the internet on this one Fedora 12 host even though I can on all other machines!
View 11 Replies View RelatedI've been flipping through distros a lot lately, trying to find which one best suits me. I like Ubuntu quite a bit.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a desktop pc and I'm having and issue with shared folders. I set up a test share by right clicking on Documents in my home folder, and clicking on Sharing Options. Then I checked the box to "Share this folder" and the box to "allow others to create and delete files in this folder". I click "Create Share" and in a new window, it prompts me for nautilus to add permissions automatically. So I allow it to do that.
Then, from a Virtualbox Ubuntu machine, I can access the share and do everything I want to do (view, create, modify files). However, once I reboot my Ubuntu 9.10 machine, that has the shared folder on it, it's no longer shared when I log in and check on it.
The sharing emblem has disappeared from the folder icon, but if I go into Sharing Options, the boxes are still checked. If I simply unshare and re-share the folder, it gets the sharing emblem again and the Ubuntu virtual box can access it again.
I have just upgraded to 10.04 (not ideal I know, thought I would give it a go). Now the machine is only accessible via its IP, not host name. I reinstalled Samba, but still not working

but to no avail.
I just setup a ubuntu 10.10 box learn linux and to play around with, and want it to host my website. I can see the web site on my local network no problem but the outside world gets a time out message. I check to make sure everything is forwarded correctly on my router and the dns so i has to be something in ubuntu blocking out-of-network traffic how do i turn port 80 on to the outside world

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently I am trying to get some fedora shares to simply connect to each other to access a read-only shared folder on a host machine (no security/encryption even required for these files!). I've tried to get a smb network share going but that didn't work (can't connect with nautilus), I've tried a quick fix with daap and rhythmbox so that they can at least access the music, but rhythmbox fails very miserably trying to connect/create that (and mt-daapd didn't help much) - Basically I get errors saying the host is unreachable.
I haven't even set up a firewall yet for this network and already I'm running into these fundamental problems. Currently I'm using Fedora 15. On a whim I tried the "public" folder and had sharing of the public folder over the network enabled - yep, didn't work (and I certainly didn't expect it to). I would be trying some more advanced CLI stuff, setting up an ssh server or something, but the computer-challenged people who have to access these files just want to be able to click something and have it work.For the operational requirements of this setup, a file synchronisation system would work (although highly inefficient since it would mean gigabytes sent over the network).
I am running CentOS release 5.6 (Final) and have successfully installed PPTPD and this works great internally.
I want to access my Linux box remotely on the internet via my VPN tunnel. However I am not sure what I need to do on the Linux box to make this happen. My linux box is multihomed as follows

1. The VPN is setup and bound to eth1 and eth0 and works well internally
2. IPSec, GRE and PPTP rules have been declared on the router which port map to eth1
However I am still unable to setup a VPN connection to Linux Box I suspect something hasn't been done or I have setup my NATing or IPTables correctly on the linux box.
I want to have my Fedora 10 computer act as file storage and access it from my Windows computers.
Details:
Fedora 10 box is fully functional and connects to the internet using a wireless card to my Linksys 54G router. I've configured the smb.conf file to workgroup MSHOME, and assigned it an IP of 192.168.1.150. I've also set it to turn on smb at boot. Windows XP Home is hard wired to the same router with the standard Workgroup of MSHOME. Windows is set to obtain IP and DNS automatically. There's another Windows XP Home system that's also wireless on MSHOME that I can interact with fine from the main Windows comp. Ping results to 192.168.1.150 results in Request timed out.
I m using the pc as gateway....i have two NICs:1) 10.6.15.254 ---> for internal network 10.6.15.02) 10.6.0.115 -----> for out side world I can ping and ssh any out side machine but when i try to ping or ssh any machine in the 10.6.15.0 network it says host unreachable.... i can ping and ssh gateway i.e. 10.6.15.254 and 10.6.0.115 but not the client machine in the 10.6.15.0 network from out side world even i flush iptable rules i can not access any client machine i m using ubuntu 10.04 as operating system..
