"https://localhost:10000" (10000 is port no.)But I cannot access it from other computers.I have dial-up connection on ubuntu.I have also added port 10000 usingsudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT

May 4, 2011I just installed webmin, then added the line for port 10000 into my iptables. I restarted iptables, but I still can't get to the webmin page on my server. If i stop iptables, i can connect to it. did i edit iptables wrong? could something else be blocking it?

Jun 29, 2011I'm not terribly new to Linux, but I am new to the forums, so hear me out! I am in the process of creating an electronic mapwall for our meteorology program, and have designed the computing system from scratch. I have two Linux Boxes, each with capabilities for 6 attached monitors...a total of 12 displays driven from two machines. My intention is to have one machine be the master...it has a touchpanel control. The inputs to the touchpanel will then trigger events for the both the master and the slave machine to display. Each of them has a specific IP address (DNS entry), and are not on a subnet.
Now...is there a way to remotely login to the slave machine and have it display on it's OWN monitors? The code is Java and which works on the master machine to animate directories of .gifs for each of the master's attached monitors. I will most likely have Java execute shell commands for the remote login (ssh), but I believe the answer lies somewhere in the X-configuration. Do I have the machines in an adverse configuration (creation of a subnet would be better)? Lots of questions...lots of desire...few answers!
Ubuntu Servers :: Webmin Dependency - Install Webmin On Edition 10.04 ?
Apr 3, 2010I encountered a a dependency issue when trying to install Webmin on Ubuntu Server Edition 10.04 Beta1.
When you try to install webmin, libmd5-perl is not available in any of the lucid repositories:
I resolved the dependency prob by adding the following repository to my /etc/apt/sources.list: deb [url]
Then I did a sudo apt-get update then sudo apt-get install and libmd5-perl installed fine along with webadmin. BTW. I got a GPG error when doing a apt=get update because I did not import the public key for the debian repos I used to get libdm5-perl, which doesn't matter to me as I commented out the repos once I got libmd5-perl installed.

Apr 6, 2010I have had webmin running previously but i just recently installed Unbuntu server and i am now trying to install webmin. after typing this to install webmin sudo apt-get install webmin it started doing its thing and then it halts.
Giving me the following message: "Package webmin is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may mean that the package is missing, had been obsoleted , or is only available from another source."
The first thing i did after installing webmin was edit the sources.list
Then i tpyed sudo nano sources.list I uncommented everything with "deb" in front of it
I also uncommented
deb cdrom:
I then typed this sudo wget [url]
After getting that i typed this apt-get install perl libnet-ssleay-perl openssl libauthen-pam-perl libpam-runtime libio-pty-perl libmd5-perl
Then i tryed to install it and got that error.
I also tryed install it using this tutorial [url]
When i got to the part when i need to type
sudo apt-get install update this is what happened

Nov 21, 2008I usually remotely connect to a client server to make adjustment via the CLI.Occasionally I have to login into the desktop to understand some issues that my customer are trying to explain via Vino-Server. I have notice that sometimes when I attempt to login via ssh, I sometimes can see that a user has not logged into the GUI desktop which means that I cannot login into the remote desktop session to resolve any issues via the GUI. My question is:How can I remotely login via ssh and start a gnome or kde session for the user account that I am trying to resolve his or her issue?

Suddenly (few days ago) a problem started. I can not login remotely to client machines. I did not do anything. I can login to server remotely, but not the client. When I try to login, it accept password and nothing happens. Also, when I try to login from server to client same thing happens. We share the home directory of the server with client. Another question: there two type of nfs server nfs-user-server and nfs-kernel-server. I just use gui to set up the NFS. I don't know which one I am running. Is there any way to find out which nfs I am running?

LDAP seems to be OK and for testing I am able to create users with:smbldap-tools useradd -am usernameI can ssh into the server as root and also as a Linux user which was locally created in the server. But ssh into the server as LDAP user fails (from a Fedora 11 machine) with "Permission denied, please try again", prompting again for password.Some data:

Jun 17, 2010I recently started with Amazon's EC2, and it's been smooth sailing up to this point. I installed the official EBS AMI ( ami-714ba518 ) for Ubuntu 10.04 and installed LAMP, etc. All this worked fine. However, Webmin is a bust. I cannot fathom why I can't get Webmin working after adding the webmin repo and installing via apt-get. This worked just fine on my physical server, but on Amazon it gives me "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxxxxxx:10000." I made sure my security group allowed port 10000 through to my IP, and MySQL client connections work fine, so that can't be the problem.

Mar 7, 2011I want to make a daily backup of my websites from ubuntu server over ftp to another server I own. Backup schedule and process works, the problem is backup restore. Winrar says: The file is corrupt, 7-zip crashes.
Backup archive looks ok (the same size as original folder) and you can also extract it ignoring the error by winrar. But the extracted folder only contains one or two subfolder and one file(usually image) and that's all.
If I try to restore from Webmin it doesn't report any error, and it looks like restore worked. But restored files are nowhere.

I think the tutorial is really great for a newbie, but it consistently uses su instead of sudo.I'm aware of the fact that setting a root-password isn't recommended in the documentation, but don't you need a root-account to be able to run tools such as webmin?
