Networking :: Mapping Network Use AND Process?

have a workstation, that, even after a fresh reboot, has a constant network activity.I used Wireshark on the machine, and i saw there is a constant HTTP trafic(even after a fresh reboot).I just know that my local TCP/44188 port is used to send the HTTP trafic to the web server on Internet.However; I don't know which process is doing that.How can I identify the binary responsible for using this particular TCP port and sending data?

Have been configuring fedora 14 to connect to a windows domain server and have been successful so far....am now on mapping network drives when the user logs in via the gnome gui.
If there is a better method of mapping network drives on login
After reading up on PAM_MOUNT and using that for mapping drives on login I have been able to successfully map them, but it doesn't do this automatically on gnome login.
Problem is as follows: It works when i connect / login using the terminal but requires me to enter the password once (even when i logged into the user account on gnome).
How I want it to work:I would like the mapping to occur when i login via gnome so that i dont have to open a terminal once logged in to gnome to map the network drives. I would like it to login without having to type the password again as the user is already logged in
Config Files:
#--- ~/.pam_mount.conf.xml ---#
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<pam_mount>
<volume fstype="cifs" server="GRA.GI" path="apps" mountpoint="/mnt/GRA.GI/apps"/>
</pam_mount>

finding / mapping network shares on Win 7 guest in vmware. I am running 10.10 64 bit ubuntu and installed vmware workstation 7 (64 bit version). I created and installed win 7 (ultimate) vm. everything is good so far. The issue is I have a second desktop with ubuntu and I have shared 4 drives on that desktop. I want those shared available to the win 7 guest. And even after enabling the shared folders I do not see them.
Note: I have a shared folder on the same machine where I have vmware installed and win7 has assess to that drive.. its just that the shares on network are not available. Note2: i had virtualbox installed and it worked fine.

When a user that has rsa public key set in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file logs in via ssh an sshd process is started to handle the ssh session.Periodically we audit the authorized keys and remove them from the system and authorized_keys file. This means the next log in attempt will fail, which is fine.However we need to terminate current ssh sessions in progress that use the rsa key.I have not been able to determine a way to map sshd processes with authorized_keys entries.

I have looked for and found several tools to show a system's total network usage. I have not, however, been able to find any that show this information in the context of individual processes. Do any such tools for linux exist?

I use opensuse 11.4 with TightVNC Server version 1.3.9. I use french keyboard mapping (yast configuration).When I connect with putty via ssh all is ok (keyboard mapping). But when I use tightvnc viewer on windows the mapping is not correct.I've verified many time the configuration of the keyboard in yast (graphical) and desktop options (french mapping). I can't map correctly. It seem there is no issue with direct attached keyboard.Another strange behavior is the shift key. I want to use . (need to press shift + and this put a >. But sometime if I press "shift + ," before then "shift + ;" it works.
I've passed long time on google and find no answer yet.Is there a issue with tightvnc server ?A bug with tightvnc viewer ? (I've tried with realvnc and same results).

I've added a 2nd ethernet network card into my linux box. After I installed it the box recognized the new card and mapped it to eth1, as I expect. I then configured the addresses and routing for my eth0 and eth1 interface. Since then I had shutdown my box.When I next started my linux box up only eth0 was present.`ifconfig -a` only displays eth0, but `lspci` lists both cards. How can i permanently map the new pci card to eth1?
Code:
scattaneo@unthread:~$ ifconfig -a
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1a:a0:8c:61:49
inet addr:192.168.2.108 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

I have 4 computers/users and we need to put all the files on a central server. The server is running Ubuntu 10.04. What is the best way for these 4 XP users to see the files that will be stored on the server?
Or basically, how will I either share or map the files *from* Ubuntu *to* XP? Also, the users will be reading, writing, creating and deleting files on the server.

have a doubt about the multicast address.I have read that IP and ethernet multicast address have the same last 23 bits. While an ethernet multicast address always starts with 01:00:5E. Changing the last 23 bits of the IP address into hexadecimal form and "adding" them to the first 24 bits we find the ethernet address but what about the missing bit??? For istance I have: 230.11.111.10 = 11100110.00001011.01101111.00001010 So converting the last 23 bits I have b:6f:a The final ethernet address will be 01:00:5E:b:6f:a . And what about the missing bit?

I wanted to use NFS4 with id mapping. I followed the write up at [URL] and basically have everything working.
The problem is that I cannot write a file unless I have group write permissions. On the server the user has uid = 1000, gid = 1000. On the client the user has uid =1699, gid = 1000. Both have the same user name.
On the client the directory listing properly shows the user name and the group name. If the file on the server is 644, the client cannot write to the file. If it is 664 on the server, then the client can write to the file.
/etc/export on server contains:
Code:
/export 172.24.84.0/24(rw,fsid=0,insecure,no_subtree_check,async)
/export/myuser 172.24.84.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,async)
/etc/fstab on client contains:
Code:
nfsserver:/myuser /home/myuser/mntpoint nfs4 rw,noauto,user 0 0

OK, this is really little to do with Linux, as my question really involves my Vista Home machines. Anyone know good methods to have Windows Vista (Home Edition) machines stay mapped to a SAMBA share on a Linux server? I'm using user-level security on the server (Ubuntu Server 10.10), and it (generally) works really well, but I can't get the rest of my family to use it, as (understandably), they don't want to have to type in their password to the share every time they log in to the Vista machines (or my one XP machine left, for that matter), plus the problems when it occasionally decides it's already tried to connect once and failed, and refuses to "restore" the connection, ugh. I currently have one Win7 machine, and surprisingly, with the Win7 Home Premium edition, it actually "remembers" the passwords to the SAMBA shares.

Using Places->Connect To Server etc I can connect to my windows box no problem and see the directories etc in Nautilus (2.32.0) all ok.But rebooting the system results in my having to log in again - I've looked atis that the only what to get this to work permanently?Also, and more importantly K-Develop (And possibly others) can't see this mapped drive when I want to open a file from it? What would be the problem here?

Samba up and running on my pc. pc runs FC12 with kde. A laptop has win vista. The pc can access the shares on the laptop but the laptop has authentication issues to access the pc. Note that windows doesnt enforce authentication forincoming network connections.Using the system-config-samba util i tried to map a windows user to the unix user "feduser". The laptop (named LAPPY) has a user (lapuser) which has on windows no password.What should I tell samba config what the windows username should be? lapuser or LAPPYlapuser doesnt work because when accessing the pc via the laptop, the authentication fails. The only auth that is successful is when choosing the same winusername as the unix username.
Secondary, id like to setup the laptop so that the user doesnt have to provide a name and password, or at least not more then once in the lifetime of the laptop. Note that you cant provide an empty password to system-config-samba. How is that possible?
Strange but not really on issue imho:the samba - KDE control module(kcmshall4) (and the smb.conf) shows 2 shares: the homedirs and the data dir the samba server configurator (system-config-samba) shows only the datadir.

Using OpenSUSE 11.4 on a backup server. At boot, it needs to connect to the main server's NFS share. Watching the text scroll up the screen, it's obvious that the system waits for anything up to several minutes showing 'mounting NFS...'. Once it (eventually) passes that point, the rest of the boot procedure is as fast as expected.
If NFS is disabled at boot, normal boot times are restored. If the NFS client is restarted via 'rcnfs restart' once the system is up and running, it's instant. If NFS is disabled at boot and started manually afterwards, it start instantly. Once running, NFS behaves normally. The backup server has two ethernet ports, connected via a switch to the main server, which also has two ethernet ports. All ports are configured via DHCP from a router, with all addresses reserved on the router so that all important devices are kept at the same locations.

I am playing around with RH for the first time. I have two applications which insist on using names for network ranges - so they need /etc/networks. I created one on the RH box as suggested via google but the apps still cant see the names (basically they are not reading /etc/networks). What is the correct process to create network names on RH? Basically the equivalent of solaris /etc/networks?

I updated Samba to 3.5.1 as shown in: Fixing "Authorization Dialog" bug in Samba for 11.2 - openSUSE ForumsWhen I copy files between two copies of Samba in two openSUSE 11.2 PC's with the new update, I get Samba Process Unexpectedly Died (in Dolphin). This happens going from Computer 1 to 2 or 2 to 1, it does not matter and the error is the same.
After reverting back to Samba version 3.4.2 in both PC's, all files copied between PC's work fine again. Though the "Authorization Dialog" bug is gone, not all seems right with the newest update version.

While booting my fedora15, it gets stuck for about 5-6 minutes. Previously there was no problem. I don't know what made this problem. After going through the boot process, error occurred during network process. Using following command I got the result.
Code: # systemctl status network.service
network.service - LSB: Bring up/down networking
Loaded: loaded (/etc/rc.d/init.d/network)
Active: failed since Sun, 05 Jun 2011 21:13:55 +0545; 11h ago
Process: 845 ExecStart=/etc/rc.d/init.d/network start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
CGroup: name=systemd:/system/network.service
Also right after the long pause following messages are printed
Code: 261.742053 usb4-1: device not accepting address 4 error -7
261.794087 hub4-0.1.0: unable to enumerate usb device on ports
I noted it down as soon as I saw the message after that long pause.
